QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ESK JOCKEY CLUB – SATURDAY 11 NOVEMBER 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 6, Soft 5(Race 1-3), Good 4(Race 4-5) RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – D. McMahonStewards – P. Zimmermann, O. Nieddu (Cadet)Clerk of Scales – C. FedrickJudge – J. BrownVeterinarian – Dr I. Trueman Starter – D. Hodgson GENERAL As jockey K. Gates was injured and not riding at today’s meeting, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards summary. Jockey Gates was advised that she would require a medical certificate prior to next race riding. Prior to the running of race 1, the track was upgraded to a Soft 5 at 11:08am. Race 1: ESK RSL REMEMBRANCE DAY Maiden Plate 800m EMPEROR TEIO – Apprentice A. Graham reported that near the 400m her mount put in an awkward stride when being crossed by BETTER PAGE. Apprentice R. Thorburn was advised to exercise more care when crossing. Raced greenly for the remainder. SWEET WIND – Began awkwardly. Raced wide. BEATLEMANIA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. BETTER PAGE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with HOPE IS GOOD. HOPE IS GOOD – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with BETTER PAGE. Raced wide. TRAIN OF THOUGHT – Apprentice C. Krahnen dropped her near-side rein near the 200m, taking a number of strides to re-gather. Race 2: HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY BILL MOLONEY Class B Handicap 800m KAPPY – Jockey T. Brooker was reminded of her obligations to fully test her mount out to the finish line under AR131(b). DEE JAY CEE – Bumped on jumping. Apprentice A. Graham dropped her whip near the 50m. SUPER EXCEPTIONAL – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after. CRAIGLEA LAKI – Raced wide. JAIN – Leaving the 100m, when racing in close proximity to DEE JAY CEE, was struck over the nose by the whip of apprentice A. Graham. Race 3: FINN NEEHAM MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1200m VELENTINO – Made the crossing awkwardly near the 900m and shifted out marginally before shifting back in. KING DICK – Near the 800m, was awkwardly placed at heels and taken in when VELENTINO shifted in marginally. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, obliging its rider to stop and straighten. Trainer J. Morris advised that it is his intention to add blinkers to the gear of the gelding at its next start. CHILLI PALMER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. MISHANI SCANDAL – Inclined to hang in throughout the event. Shifted in abruptly near the 150m. Jockey K. Yoshida reported that his saddle shifted near the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer A. Park was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. ROMAN REIGN – Rounding the home turn, raced in restricted room for a short distance and brushed the inside running rail. NICHOLAS ADAM – Began awkwardly. Tailed the field throughout. Jockey N. Thomas reported that in his opinion the gelding would derive fitness benefit from today’s run. SEEYOU LATER – Made the crossing awkwardly near the 900m, and shortly thereafter raced in restricted room to the inside of KING DICK which was taken in marginally by VELENTINO. Apprentice R. Thorburn reported that his mount resented racing to the inside of other runners. Following the running of race 3, the track was upgraded to a good 4.Race 4: DINNER @ THE GRAND TONIGHT QTIS Maiden Plate 1460mMONT ROYAL – Fractious in the barriers and dislodged the barrier blanket prior to the start. Began awkwardly. BETTER BELIEVE IT – Near the 1200m, raced in restricted room to the inside of CHICA, was bumped and became unbalanced. Shortly after near the 1100m, raced in restricted room and was inconvenienced when CHICKA was taken in by HOPETOUN SUNRISE which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey T. Brooker the rider of HOPETOUN SUNRISE was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. CHICKA – Near the 1100m, raced in restricted room to the inside of HOPETOUN SUNRISE, was momentarily steadied and shifted in. WAN D'AMOUR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Taken wider near the 1100m when OUR ECEE shifted out. Raced wide for the remainder. MAGIC IN PARIS – Raced wide. Near the 600m, steadied from the heels of GISELLE’S GAMBLE which shifted in slightly. Apprentice A. Graham the rider of GISELLE’S GAMBLE was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. THE MONEY SPENDER – Slow to begin. Jockey N. Thomas reported that in his opinion the gelding would derive fitness benefit from today’s run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. GISELLE'S GAMBLE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice A. Graham reported that in her opinion the mare did not appreciate today’s track conditions and may not have handled the back up from racing Tuesday. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Race 5: NEXT ESK RACES MARCH 9 BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1460m BELLE'S BOY – Shifted wider on the track near the 1200m. MASTERPLAN – Near the 800m, put in an awkward stride, shifted in and brushed the inside running rail. Again, near the 300m, put in an awkward stride. Approaching the 200m, shifted out abruptly and bumped BERAKAHQUINN. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey J. Morris reported that his mount raced greenly in various stages throughout the event and proved difficult to ride. Jockey Morris further added that approaching the finish line the gelding was inclined to lay in, placing him at a disadvantage over the concluding stages. BAMBALAM – Near the 1200m, was steadied from heels when the pace of the race slackened. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. BERAKAHQUINN – Near the 1200m, was steadied from heels when the pace of the race slackened. Approaching the 200m, bumped by MASTERPLAN which shifted out abruptly. CRAIGLEA KARLY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers after making contact with the mounting enclose fence and was cleared to start. Slow to begin.
