General
Jockeys A Butler and J Felix who were unable to attend today’s race meeting due to injury were replaced as per Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1
Pekna – Underwent a Veterinary inspection behind the barriers after becoming fractious in the mounting yard and throwing  itself down. Was cleared to start. Fractious in the barrier. Reluctant to load. On returning to scale Jockey S Sheargold advised Stewards he was suffering some neck pain. Jockey Sheargold was attended by QAS Officers and declared himself fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.
Ynys Gored Goch – Reluctant to load. Fractious in the barrier becoming cast. Late withdrawal by order of Stewards acting on Veterinary advice at 2:02pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on the mare be refunded in full and further that deductions of 5 cents win and 6 cents place in the dollar on the face value of the betting ticket be applicable. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed superficial abrasions to the hindquarters and near hind leg. Trainer’s representative Ms. T Zurbo was advised the mare would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
Animal Spirits – After standing in the starting barrier for some considerable time after being loaded stood flat-footed as the start was activated losing 4 lengths. Trainer Mr R Finch was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.
Tenaka – Began awkwardly. Finished tailed off. Trainer Ms. L McCormack advised it is now the intention to retire the mare from racing.
Quezmar – Raced wide for the majority.
Race 2 – JAYSEL CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000m
The Big Sheila – Reluctant to load. Jockey P Cullen was cautioned in relation to his use of the whip prior to the 100m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Sfilza – Raced wide the majority. Jockey Ms B Thomson was cautioned in relation to her use of the whip prior to the 100m.
Could I Be – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Race 3 – ROTARY SUNRISE CLASS B HANDICAP 1200m
He’s Terryfied – Jockey C Whitely reported the gelding travelled ungenerously in the middle stages and may not have been comfortable on the firm racing surface.
Race 4 – GEORGE & LORRAINE COLBRAN QTIS RATINGS BAND 0 – 65 HANDICAP 1300m
Saturn Ops – The gelding which competed the previous day at Twin Hills underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
Edith Margaret – Jockey F Edwards was fined the sum of $100 for negligence under the provisions of AR227 in that he failed to weigh out prior to handing his saddle to licenced stable hand Mr. M O’Connell. Subsequently Stewards ordered that the saddle be retrieved and Jockey Edwards weighed out correctly at his allotted weight with all gear intact and unaltered. Shifted in near the 1200m when not quite clear of another runner which had to be restrained. Jockey F Edwards was severely reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a).
Love Me Ruby – Lost ground after having to be restrained near the 1200m. Raced wide for the majority.
Sir Van Dyke – Raced wide for the majority.
Race 5 – COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER / LANDMARK EWAN CUP BENCHMARK 69 HANDICAP 1600m
Proane – Connections advised Stewards pre-race that an attempt would be made to ride the gelding in a forward position contrary to it’s usual racing pattern should circumstances permit. After beginning only fairly Proane raced in a mid-field position throughout.
Stone Warrior – Slowly away.
Arno Bay – Raced wide for the majority.
Mason’s Chance - Raced wide for the majority.
Miazumi – Jockey P Cullen reported the mare which got well out of its ground in the middle stages had failed to respond to his urgings and finished off only fairly. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
