LOCKYER RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURS.13.5.99

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD



RACE 1: ROCKLEA CANVAS H’CAP - 1630M.

Due to transport difficulties, C. Reith was replaced on CABERNET STAR by J. Piper.

A veterinary examination of CABERNET STAR, which performed poorly and tailed off, failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer K. Patillo was advised that CABERNET STAR would be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

No racing incidents.


RACE 2: HALLMARK TRAILERS H’CAP - 1085M.

CALL TO DANCE jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition.

TAUNTON CRUSHER was slow to begin.

SPORTS ROMANCE and MILAN MISS were both slow to begin.

After passing the 900m., HIGH SHABEAU shifted in, causing RAYASAY and LYNSLINER to be steadied. Apprentice T. Treichel, rider of HIGH SHABEAU, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Shortly after, MILAN MISS shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the fence.


RACE 3: D.J. SANDBLASTERS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H’CAP - 1085M.

Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer R. Lipp for the late declaration of rider for BEAU SAW.

SANBARDEAN and YOUNG LADY was slow to begin.

WHAT’S THE BEEF jumped away awkwardly.

After passing the 800m., SIGN WRITER, which was racing greenly, shifted in of its own accord. Shortly after, BEAU SAW, which was also racing greenly, shifted in, causing YOUNG LADY to be steadied off that gelding’s heels and alter course.

Approaching the 200m., WHAT’S THE BEEF shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, J. Piper, causing KWATCHA to be taken out on to EYES OF LAUGHTER and FLYING SATIN. Shortly after, WHAT’S THE BEEF once again moved out slightly, and then approaching the 100m., WHAT’S THE BEEF shifted out, causing KWATCHA to be hampered, and in doing so became unbalanced when taken out on to the hind quarters of EYES OF LAUGHTER. J. Piper was reprimanded and advised to stop riding and straighten when his mounts shift ground.


RACE 4: LOCKYER RACE CLUB SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H’CAP - 1085M.

SECRET BID and SLEEPY POET were slow to begin.

RECHOBITE ANGEL jumped away awkwardly.

CHARLOTTE SYN hung in over the concluding stages.


RACE 5: OHTSU TYRES H’CAP - 860M.

N. Jolly was examined by the ambulance officer and advised to forego his mount on BELLE EYES. D. Spriggs was substituted as the rider of that mare.

After being bumped by ANY LUTE at the start, AUNTY TOBYS commenced to race ungenerously and after passing the 800m., had to be steadied off the heels of ANY LUTE, which shifted in. Trainer S. Andrew was advised that a warning was being placed AUNTY TOBYS regarding its racing manners.

BELLE EYES was slow to begin.


RACE 6: HAULMARK TRAILERS GATTON CUP - 1975M.

SISTER THERESA was slow to begin.

After passing the winning post on the first occasion, SIERRA OSCAR raced in restricted room between CHAPPEL DANCER and SISTER THERESA. Approaching the crossing, SISTER THERESA shifted out slighlty, making contact with the hind quarters of SIERRA OSCAR, which was taken in by CHAPPEL DANCER. A. Cowie was reprimanded and reminded of his obligations to allow sufficient room for riders racing to his inside.

A post race veterinary examination of SISTER THERESA failed to reveal any abnormality, and a swab sample was taken from the mare.

B. Stewart was reprimanded for failing to seek a clearance from the stewards before leaving the course.


RACE 7: FALKEN TYRES H’CAP - 1085M.

Trainer A. Marshall was fined $50 for failing to produce the Document of Description for ACENCO.

Trainer A. Overell and jockey G. Lynch were each fined $25 for presenting NOT TOO VEIN with the wrong saddle cloth number.

OVER THE RANGE was slow to begin.

Approaching the 400m., CONCEALMENT had to be steadied off the heels of the tiring AFFECTIONATE AGENT.

Due to concerns regarding the accuracy of the portable scales used for this event, stewards instructed the Clerk of Scales to operate the second set of scales for the remainder of the meeting.


RACE 8: HOLLAND HITCH H’CAP - 1470M.

Approaching the home turn, SPHERICAL PROSPECT was obliged to alter course when the tiring ELECTRIC KING shifted out.


RACE 9: AERWAY H’CAP - 1370M.

W.J. Cook replaced the indisposed N. Jolly on EPIGLOW.

Trainer I. Long was fined $50 for presenting EPIGLOW shod with oversize nails, and failing to present that mare for inspection by the Shoeing Inspector.

MYSTICAL FLAME was slow to begin.

Approaching the first turn, VEILING, which was overracing, made the corner awkwardly.

Nearing the home turn, CALM FOREVER had to be steadied off the heels of LIKELY LORD and alter course.


ALL WINNERS AND SISTER THERESA WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
