Race 1 – LIGHTS ON THE HILL MEMORIAL CONVOY FEB 28 MAIDEN PLATE - 860M:
The start time of race 1 was delayed to 1:13pm due to the Queensland Ambulance Service being required to attend to another matter.
RATHDOWNEY AVENUE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
BULLCAMP RED – Raced wide during the middle stages of the event.
MARREW MIA – Raced wide during the middle stages of the event.
CAST OUT – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
GAMBLER’S GAME – Raced in restricted room near the 650m and was restrained.
Race 2 – LOCKYER ELECTRICAL CLASS B HCP - 1100M:
The start time of race 2 was adjusted from the earlier delay to 1:50pm.
AUBRYEY’S ACE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for clear
running rounding the home turn and shifted out wider on the track to obtain clear running.
SNIPPET EXPRESS – Shortly after the start had to be restrained from the heels of another runner.
TUDOR ARMOV – Raced wide throughout the event.
CLIFFORD – Raced wide throughout the event.
ISN’T HE A BEAUTY – Raced very wide throughout without cover and laid out rounding the home turn. When questioned in regards to the riding tactics adopted on Isn’t He A Beauty, apprentice J. Orman stated that it was his intention to obtain a forward position and after beginning well he endeavored to obtain said position from the wide barrier. After being caught wide in the early stages and not improving forward, he persisted in obtaining a forward position, rather than electing to restrain and obtain cover, which resulted in Isn’t He A Beauty being caught extremely wide for the majority of the event. Stewards in considering all evidence before them, advised apprentice J. Orman that he had erred in his riding from the 850m in that when it became apparent that the horse was unable to improve forward, he should have obtained cover to his inside. In all the circumstances, Stewards did not take any further action.
Race 3 – THOMSON REFRIGERATION & AIR CONDITIONING MAIDEN HCP –– 1400M:
SOVEREIGN OF HAITI – Laid out rounding the first turn.
CLANGFILLY – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. When questioned in regards to the performance, Jockey S. Bogenhuber, the rider of Clangfilly advised that the instructions were to obtain a forward position. After improving forward in the early stages to obtain a forward position she stated that the mare travelled well in the early stages and felt comfortable. Jockey S. Bogenhuber added that after pressuring the horse near the 550m, it failed to respond and compounded over the concluding stages of the event and subsequently tailed off. A post race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer L. Hatch advised stewards that the mare would now be retired from his stable. Mr. L. Hatch was nevertheless advised that Clangfilly would be required to trial to stewards’ satisfaction before racing again.
RING TRUE – Laid in over the concluding stages. Apprentice M. Schrapel, the rider of Ring True, was reminded of his obligation to straighten when his mount is shifting ground.
BANK JOB – Hung out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully tested. Trainer S. Shultz was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
Race 4 – HAINES CONSTRUCTIONS PTY LTD BMK 55 HCP (1) – 1400M:
HEREAFTER – Was slow to begin.
LIKE LALA – Was slow to begin. Raced wide in the middle stages of the event.
SUITS US – Made contact with the running rail near the 1000m.
CYRANO – Eased from heels near the 1200m. Became unbalanced momentarily near the 1000m. Apprentice F. Elliott, the rider of Cyrano was reprimanded for failing to weight in for 5th place.
CAMBO’S MATE – Laid out rounding the first turn.
Race 5 - OZLAV PLUMBING BMK 55 HCP (2) – 1400M:
FIERY GIRL – Raced wide during the middle stages of the event.
TIGERPRINT – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
CHROMED – T. Banks pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when improving forward when insufficiently clear of BACKSTREET JACK, which was checked, clipped heels and lost its position. T. Banks’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 17 January and to expire at midnight on Monday 26 January 2015. In considering penalty stewards took into account T. Banks’ guilty plea and his good record in relation to breaches under AR. 137(a).
Race 6 – K & R PLUMBING CLASS 1 HCP - 1600M:
SHOVELS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ZAHASEA – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
NEVER IGNORE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
WARSHIP – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
CRAFTY’S LAST – Was slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
PUNK STAR – Over raced in the early stages of the event.
GRACE ACE – Restrained from the heels of Brother Elvis, which shifted in marginally near the 300m. Apprentice M. Kai, the rider of Brother Elvis, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
BROTHER ELVIS – Bumped by another runner approaching the 200m.
ZIONIC – Leaving the 300m was eased from the heels of Mugmarino, which shifted out abruptly. Apprentice B R Derbyshire, the rider of Mugmarino, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
