Jockey S. Shield was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that after passing the 1300m he failed to allow sufficient racing room to his inside which resulted in crowding to KENDALL’S DREAM. Jockey Shield’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 2 June 2018 and expire at midnight on Sunday 10 June 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Shields’ previous good record in relation to this rule.

Race 2: WILSON BROTHERS FINANCE/BLUE DOG SPORTS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M

The start of this race was delayed when ZEGOTA proved difficult to load. Trainer C. Munce was advised that a warning will be placed on the filly for its barrier manners.

NORTHERN CRUSADER – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Stewards were of the view that the gelding’s performance was uncompetitive. Trainer Mr. R. Mackay was advised that the horse will be barred from racing at TAB venues until such time as its form improves.

Race 3: COOKS TRANSPORT LOCKYER LIGHTNING BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1100M

LAND OFFICE – Began awkwardly. The gelding was accidentally struck on the head by the whip of Apprentice H. Phillips (STICK WITH ME) near the 100m. When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, Trainer Mr. D. Ward advised that the horse was having its first up run today with a significant weight impost. He added that the gelding will be improved from the run, and it will be stepped up in distance with the intention of it racing in the Rockhampton Newmarket. He went on to say that he was not too disappointed in the horse’s performance bearing in mind the 62½ kilogram weight impost. Mr. Ward undertook to advise Stewards should anything come to light in the coming days with respect to the horse’s post-race recovery.

HILL SPY – Raced 3 wide throughout. Bled from both nostrils. As this was the second occasion on which the horse has bled it will now incur a lifetime bar from racing.

HELLAROO – Began awkwardly.
