E. Ljung was dislodged from EL DEMONIO when the horse attempted to jump the crossing after passing the winning post. After being attended to by ambulance officials, jockey Ljung was transported to hospital for observation. As jockey Ljung was unable to weigh in, acting under the provisions of AR. 142 stewards declared correct weight. Riding replacements for jockey Ljung’s engagements in Races 3, 5, 7 and 8 were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

CHOCOLATE OREO – Trainer D. Baker advised that following today’s performance the horse would be sent for a spell.

EL DEMONIO – Hung out rounding the home turn. The horse underwent a veterinary examination after dislodging its rider when attempting to jump the crossing and no apparent abnormalities were detected.

MISS MELRAE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Steadied when placed in restricted room at the 850m.

PLAY NOW – Shifted out when overracing approaching the 500m and made contact with HOLLYWOOD STAR before being steadied from heels. Held up from rounding the home turn until the 100m before obtaining clear running. When asked to comment on the performance, R. Goltz indicated that he would have liked to have been positioned closer to the lead, however, the horse was unable to muster early speed. He added that the step back in distance, in his opinion, affected the position in which he was able to settle and the horse also was inclined to lay out throughout the event. He felt that the horse would benefit from a step up in distance back to 1200m at its next start.

BABY BOO – Stable representative Chris Wearne was questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance. He indicated that the horse was caught wide at its most recent start and had blinkers removed for that event. He added that the horse benefited from the change of gear to put blinkers back on the horse and that the stable had expected a forward showing today.

Race 4: MCCULLOUGH ROBERTSON 0 – 55 H’CAP – 1100M

FLYPAST – Raced wide throughout. Taken wider on the track approaching the 400m.

SNOOPER – Slow to begin. Shifted wider to improve leaving the 400m.

HIDDEN SEQUEL – Blundered rounding the home turn. Stewards questioned apprentice R. Goldsbury as to the reason for steadying her mount near the 800m to allow ALL OUR WIVES to cross after having maintained the lead from the start. Stewards questioned whether she had given consideration to kicking up and holding that horse out. She indicated that she had been instructed to obtain cover behind the lead as the horse has previously not run out a strong 1100m and she did not wish to be caught up in a speed battle if she had attempted to kick up and hold ALL OUR WIVES in a one-off position. Stewards accepted the explanation, however, advised apprentice Goldsbury that in similar circumstances she should be mindful of her positioning in races as the option she took at this point resulted in her mount being held up for clear running rounding the home turn when ALL OUR WIVES commenced to weaken.

KATARINA – Apprentice M. Nakao was dislodged on leaving the enclosure. The horse was recaptured a short distance later. Upon arrival at the barriers the horse underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Proved difficult to load. A warning was placed on the mare’s barrier manners. Jumped away awkwardly. Improved on to heels approaching the 400m and shifted out, taking FLYPAST wider on the track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
