Weir Race 1: LOCKYER VALLEY PAINTING (JASON DIETE) MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M GREYT INTENTIONS – Shifted in abruptly near the 900m making contact with SURPRISE SELECTION. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. PAY DAY GREY – Held up rounding the home turn. JONDY JOY – Laid in in the early stages. Raced in restricted room near the 800m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. MASSIE WHISPER – Raced in restricted room between PAY DAY GREY and JONDY JOY approaching the winning post. PLATEAU PEARL – Jockey J. Taylor reported that, after beginning well, his mount settled further forward in the field than anticipated. SHUJUKU – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start. Steadied from the heels of JONDY JOY when that runner laid in over the concluding stages. In this incident, the saddle shifted on SHUJUKU resulting in jockey J. Woodhouse suffering a seemingly harmless fall shortly after passing the winning post. Jockey Woodhouse advised that he would be able to fulfil his remaining engagements. SURPRISE SELECTION – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn. Race 2: OZLAV PLUMBING QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 860M The start of this race was delayed when a number of runners proved difficult to load. JOSHUA TREE – Laid in for the majority of the home straight. MAGIC TRICK – Raced keenly and was steadied away from heels approaching the 600m. VIOLET – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages and, as a result, improved onto the heels of ALAN ALAN STEVE and had to be steadied near the 600m. FILLYRAE CYRUS – Raced greenly throughout, and also raced wide throughout. Jockey M. Gray reported that the filly did not feel comfortable in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed no apparent abnormalities. RAKU’S SECRET – Slow to begin. Shifted out to secure clear running approaching the 100m. Race 3: ROCK TRADE INDUSTRIES HELIDON BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 860M TAPA – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Jockey A. Sewell reported that his mount failed to muster early speed as he had anticipated which he attributed to the 62 kilogram weight impost today. He added however that the mare ran on well over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation. ASK AUDREY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. STICK WITH ME – Slow to begin. Lost the off hind plate in running. REMEMBER MARY – Steadied near the 600m to avoid the heels of TAPA (A. Sewell) which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey Sewell was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. Laid in over the concluding stages and proved difficult to ride out. KARMA FORCE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. DUBLE MEANING – Slow to begin. Steadied when placed in restricted room shortly after the start. LETITRIPPOTATOCHIP – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer B. Hudson was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to is next race start. Race 4: LAIDLEY CUP SATURDAY 23RD MARCH BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 2000M RED CALVARY – Jockey L. Dittman reported that, after beginning well, his mount settled further forward in the field than anticipated. CHOPPA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide without cover throughout. ERROL – Raced wide from the 1000m. TOORAK COMEDY – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. ARGO’S REVENGE – Jumped away awkwardly. Hung out rounding the first turn before shifting in abruptly inconveniencing GREYNOMAD (B. Stewart) which had to shift across the heels of ARGO’S REVENGE (B. Ainsworth). Jockey Ainsworth was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained minor lacerations to its near hind hock consistent with it being galloped on. SHEEZINAJAM – Improved onto the heels of ARGO’S REVENGE approaching the 1100m and had to be steadied. Steadied from heels approaching the 500m. MORE OF MARY – Slow to begin. Race 5: LOCKYER PRODUCE GRANTHAM BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1600M MENDELSSOHN – Steadied from heels approaching the 1100m. RAHDANE – Slow to begin. SCARLETT HUSSIE – Jockey B. Stewart reported that, in his opinion, the mare would be better suited racing on a bigger track than that of today’s event, and would also benefit from a step up in distance at this stage of its preparation. Stewards noted the explanation. BRUMBY JACK – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 900m. Race 6: VANDERFIELD (JOHN DEERE) GATTON CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1400M HIGHER LOVE – Raced 3 wide throughout. VICTORY DANCE – Slow to begin. KIRIN’S LAD – Raced wide from the 800m. ANGELS LOVE – Slow to begin. Hung out throughout. A warning was placed on the mare for its racing manners. RESET’S SON – Raced 4 wide throughout. Race 7: MCNEIL FARMS GATTON CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow jockey L. Cassidy, the rider of 2nd placegetter MAN IN MOTION, to view the Stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter NEW ALLIANCE. After viewing the film, jockey Cassidy indicated that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers. PRETTY RICKY – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the runners to its outside. Blundered upon entering the home straight. RIVER FLYER – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. LEICA CELEBRE – Checked from heels approaching the 900m and, as a result, lost ground. Apprentice B. Nothdurft, the rider of ONE OF THE BEST, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in abruptly when insufficiently clear of LEICA CELEBRE resulting in that runner being checked and losing ground. Apprentice Nothdurft’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 16 January 2019 and expire at midnight on Friday 25 January 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards considered this incident to be in the low range, and also took into consideration Apprentice Nothdurft’s reasonable prior record in relation to this rule. BABY BOO – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. Buffeted between runners when placed in restricted room for some distance leaving the 200m. ONE OF THE BEST – As T. Harrison was unable to fulfil her engagement due to transport difficulties, Apprentice B. Nothdurft was substituted as rider. Steadied from heels shortly after the start. TORQUATO TASSO – As L. Tilley was to be overweight, N. Tomizawa was substituted as rider. L. Tilley was reprimanded. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration that this had been a late rider engagement for jockey Tilley. Raced wide without cover throughout. Trainer R.
