In this incident, the saddle shifted on SHUJUKU resulting in jockey J. Woodhouse suffering a seemingly harmless fall shortly after passing the winning post. Jockey Woodhouse advised that he would be able to fulfil his remaining engagements.

STICK WITH ME – Slow to begin. Lost the off hind plate in running.

MORE OF MARY – Slow to begin.

MENDELSSOHN – Steadied from heels approaching the 1100m.

RAHDANE – Slow to begin.

SCARLETT HUSSIE – Jockey B. Stewart reported that, in his opinion, the mare would be better suited racing on a bigger track than that of today’s event, and would also benefit from a step up in distance at this stage of its preparation. Stewards noted the explanation.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow jockey L. Cassidy, the rider of 2nd placegetter MAN IN MOTION, to view the Stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter NEW ALLIANCE. After viewing the film, jockey Cassidy indicated that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

RIVER FLYER – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start.

LEICA CELEBRE – Checked from heels approaching the 900m and, as a result, lost ground. Apprentice B. Nothdurft, the rider of ONE OF THE BEST, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in abruptly when insufficiently clear of LEICA CELEBRE resulting in that runner being checked and losing ground. Apprentice Nothdurft’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 16 January 2019 and expire at midnight on Friday 25 January 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards considered this incident to be in the low range, and also took into consideration Apprentice Nothdurft’s reasonable prior record in relation to this rule.
