Apprentice A. Thompson was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to next racing. Due to a scheduling issue, the start times of all races were amended as follows: Race 1 – 2.15pmRace 2 – 2.55pm Race 3 – 3.35pmRace 4 – 4.10pmRace 5 – 4.45pmRace 6 – 5.22pmRace 7 – 5.52pm Race 1: HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 860M The start of this race was delayed when CITY DIVA and ELKA ELEVEN both broke through the front of the barriers and travelled a short distance. On returning to the barriers, both horses underwent veterinary examinations and were passed fit to start. POINT OF ATTACK – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the early stages. CITY DIVA – Hung out throughout and proved difficult to ride. Trainer C. Geran was advised that a warning will be placed on the filly’s racing manners. Mr. C. Geran indicated that the horse may now be sent for a spell. LEMON DUCHESS – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. OLD KENT ROAD – As Apprentice A. Thompson was indisposed due to illness, Stewards permitted Apprentice N. Fazackerley to ride the filly without claiming any of his allowance. Race 2: NOLANS TRANSPORT GATTON FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M IN ANY CASE – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. MINI ME – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 850m when racing to the inside of KRAKATOA ERUPTION which shifted in momentarily. THE GOOD THE BAD – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. APACHE LIL – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 850m when racing to the inside of MINI ME which was taken momentarily by KRAKATOA ERUPTION. Improved onto the heels of MINI ME leaving the 700m and had to be steadied. BELVOIR – Became fractious behind the barriers and dislodged jockey C. Eaton who took a seemingly harmless fall. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. CURRENT – Began awkwardly, and was then tightened for room and eased. Laid in in the home straight. NEVER LOSE FAITH – Raced greenly in the early stages of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which performed below market expectation, revealed no significant findings. Race 3: MCNEIL FARMS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M BUDDY FAST – Blundered on jumping away and lost ground. DONKEY KONG – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which weakened noticeably in the home straight, revealed it to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery. SNAP ON –Became awkward at the heels of the weakening DONKEY KONG near the 400m and shifted wider on the track. Hung out under pressure in the home straight. ABOVE THE SKY – Stewards permitted the gelding to race without a tongue-tie and visors which was the horse’s advertised gear. Trainer T. Hurley was fined $200 under AR. 206(2) for failing to enact a gear change by the prescribed time. Raced greenly in the early stages. Hung out across heels leaving the 900m and had to be restrained and, as a result, lost ground and continued to race very greenly having to be checked from heels on a number of occasions in the middle stages. Race 4: TAB CLASS 1 H’CAP – 860M GALIANNO HOT SHOT – Raced wide throughout. GRACE OF MONACO – Raced wide with cover throughout. DUKATTI – Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted out onto MAYFAIR LADY. RUBY LIL – Jockey H. English was dislodged from the mare after passing the winning post. Jockey English was assessed by Queensland Ambulance Officers, and subsequently transported to hospital for further observation. Jockey English was subsequently advised that she will require a medical clearance, including the results of an after injury cognitive test, prior to resuming riding. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no significant findings. Stewards will inquire into the circumstances surrounding this incident. GREATDUCK – Slow to begin. MAYFAIR LADY – Bumped by another rounding the home turn. Following the running of this race, jockey Andrew Spinks took ill and was stood down from his remaining engagement by Queensland Ambulance Officers. A riding replacement was made in Race 7 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 5: LVTC TRADIES DAY 14TH FEB FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP- 1100M The start of this race was delayed when concerns were raised by two jockeys that the track surface may have been a contributing factor to the fall in the previous race. Stewards spoke with a delegation of senior riders who indicated that they were happy to proceed with the remainder of the meeting. Stewards also undertook an inspection of the track and could not detect any apparent safety concerns. AMERICAN CROWN – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start. Overraced for a short distance leaving the 850m. Commenced to overrace leaving the 750m and, as a result, improved onto the heels of UNO EYNO and had to be steadied before shifting wider on the track. Made the home turn awkwardly and bumped another runner. MIRACLE STAR – Slow to begin. Shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running approaching the 500m, and raced wide for the remainder. TSANI TOPAZ – Declared a late scratching at 12.57pm for veterinary reasons after being injured in its tie-up box. Trainer M. Boland was advised that the mare will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing. ANGEL OF LEON – Bumped rounding the home turn resulting in jockey H. Phillips momentarily losing the use of her iron. UNTOLD SECRETS – Steadied approaching the 850m. Momentarily forced wider on the track by AMERICAN CROWN leaving the 750m. Race 6: LAIDLEY CUP SATURDAY 21ST MARCH COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1100M The start of this race was delayed when GREY SKIES, which reared and became cast in the barriers, was declared a late scratching at 5.24pm on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on GREY SKIES be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers: 2 cents in the dollar for the Win #32 cents in the dollar for place of winner #33 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #123 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #2 Trainer R. Drysdale was advised that the gelding will require a further barrier certificate and a veterinary clearance prior to next racing. TABROBANE – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Raced in restricted room approaching the 850m when GENG momentarily shifted in. BRIS VEGAS – Bumped rounding the home turn. MASTER BAYLEE – Shifted out rounding the home turn. SOLID ASSET – Improved onto heels leaving the 800m and shifted wider on the track and, as a result, raced 4 wide with cover for the remainder. MAXWELL – Raced in restricted room approaching the 850m when GENG momentarily shifted in. FLIM FLAN MAN – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. INSTABEATS – Tightened between runners rounding the home turn when MASTER BAYLEE shifted out. GENG – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. LORD OF THE DREAMZ – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start and, as a result, became awkward and lost ground. Raced 4 wide with cover throughout. LEROY ROCKS – Reared at the start and lost ground. Race 7: ROYAL HOTEL GATTON CLASS 1 PLATE – 1400M The start of this race was delayed when LOVE PUZZLE, which broke through the front of the barriers and galloped a considerable distance before being recaptured, was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 5.55pm. On the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on LOVE PUZZLE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers: 5 cents in the dollar for the Win #210 cents in the dollar for place of winner #27 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #59 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10 A post-race veterinary examination of LOVE PUZZLE revealed no significant findings. The start of this race was also delayed when MONASHEE RIDGE became fractious in the enclosure and kicked out on a number of occasions making contact with the fence. The gelding underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. The start of this race was further delayed when MONASHEE RIDGE again became fractious upon arriving at the barriers and kicked out making contact with the running rail which had to be repaired. The gelding underwent a further veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed fit to start. BY THE LAW – Hampered between runners shortly after the start and lost ground. Improved onto the heels of MONASHEE RIDGE whilst rounding the home turn and had to be steadied. FALLOW – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. SEMAPHORE GIRL – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. THE LAST ROAD – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. LOVE PUZZLE – As jockey Andrew Spinks was indisposed due to illness, Stewards acceded to trainer Mr. G. Cornish’s request that he be replaced by Apprentice M.
