GENERAL
 
As B. Stewart was not attending the meeting today due to injury, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
As J. Woodhouse was not attending the meeting today due to personal reasons, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
As N. Tomizawa was not attending the meeting today as he had engagements at another venue, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: LOCKYER VALLEY PAINTING CLASS 2 H’CAP – 860M
 
DEEP SONG – Dipped near the 700m. Hung in throughout.
 
ZAITEKI – Jockey J. Bayliss was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out to the end of the race.
 
REZABELLE – Bumped heavily on the hindquarters shortly after the start. Steadied from heels leaving the 800m.
 
AXIS – Began awkwardly.
 
FIRST BID – Bumped heavily shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
STAR FACTOR – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 2: TAB FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
 
The start of this race was delayed when BAY OF DRAGONS and GYPSY BALL proved difficult to load.
 
MAKE ME RICH WITCH – Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining a position with cover near the 500m.
 
BROOKLYN STAR – Laid out rounding the home turn and over the concluding stages.
 
STATEMENT PIECE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
SWAN ISLAND – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
GIVE HER ROOM – Raced wide without cover before obtaining a position with cover near the 500m.
 
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded from a Soft 7 to a Soft 6.
 
Race 3: AGRICULTURAL REQUIREMENTS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
 
HENRY FAMOUS – Bumped by another runner near the 1000m.
 
HARALDIGO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SIR WHITTINGTON – Slow to begin.
 
OSTEONICS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide with cover throughout. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, Jockey M. Du Plessis reported that his mount raced greenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
GLOBAL VENTURE – Shifted in near the 1000m and bumped HENRY FAMOUS. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
JUST LIKE RULER – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
 
Race 4: LAIDLEY CUP SATURDAY 21ST MARCH COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
 
JOHNNIE BLUE – Tightened for room and steadied shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off during the event, revealed the horse to be exhibiting cardiac arrhythmia.  Trainer K. Hickmott was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, and must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
MOZART’S RIVAL – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 1000m.
 
AHEADOFHISTIME – Unable to secure clear running for some distance approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
POETIC CHOICE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Jockey J. Bayliss reported that his saddle shifted back on jumping away which placed him at a slight disadvantage throughout.
 
MORE FIERCE – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off during the event, revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer R. Drysdale was advised that the gelding will be barred from racing at TAB meetings until such time as its country form improves.
 
PONDEROSO – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start.
 
Race 5: K & R PLUMBING SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 2000M
 
SCOTTISH LAD – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey J. Bayliss advised that the gelding travelled in a good position throughout, however when the pace of the race quickened it failed to respond to his riding as he had anticipated, and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. During a post-race veterinary examination, the gelding coughed on a number of occasions.
 
TACTICAL MANUEVER – Apprentice L. Dillon was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Dillon’s prior good record in relation to this rule and the totality of her whip use.
 
MISS UNDERSTANDING – Overraced in the early stages. Laid in near the 600m and was placed in restricted room when SCOTTISH LAD shifted out marginally.
 
MAJOR LUCK – Raced keenly in the early stages and shifted to a 3 wide position without cover, before being allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1000m.
 
OUR RED JET – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
 
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded from a Soft 6 to a Soft 5.
 
Race 6: HAINES CONSTRUCTIONS CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1400M
 
COUP – Steadied from heels near the 800m when TYRES ARE CRUCIAL (Beau-Dene Appo) shifted in and made heavy contact with the gelding. Jockey Appo was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
ANIMAL INSTINCT – Began awkwardly. Jockey J. Hodge was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out to the end of the race.
 
ESKDALE GIRL – Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn.
 
ME MUM’S FOXY – Steadied from heels near the 800m.
 
KINGS COUNTY – Inconvenienced shortly after the start.
 
PRINCESS CAVALLO – Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn.
 
TYRES ARE CRUCIAL – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early and middle stages.
 
MIGHTY MOOSE – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained leaving the 1100m. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, Trainer B. Robinson advised that the gelding is best suited when able to obtain an uncontested lead, which it was able to do today.
 
Race 7: OZLAV PLUMBING FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1100M
 
ALEJANDRA – Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
PADDLES – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground, and shortly after was steadied from heels. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
BLACK JAGUAR – Made the home turn awkwardly.
 
GLENBAWNS DUTCHESS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
OMNIA TIDAK TAKUT – Began awkwardly.
 
MISS MAKEPEACE – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
Race 8: HAYMANS ELECTRICAL TRADE SUPPLIES COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1100M
 
ACCUMULATED – Declared a late scratching at 9.00am after being found to be lame in the near fore. Trainer B. Baker was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
BACCHUR – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
HIDDEN ACTION – Improved onto heels whilst rounding the home turn and had to be steadied.
 
POUND FOR POUND – Began awkwardly.
 
OUT FOR JUSTICE – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed that the horse had sustained lacerations to both hind legs, and that it was displaying soreness on flexion of the off fore fetlock. The veterinary surgeon also reported that the gelding’s near fore plate had shifted in running. Trainer J. Pritchard was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
