GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 7: THE CHAMP – M Powell 55.5kg (+0.5kg)
 
As jockey John Kissick was delayed arriving on course for acceptable reasons, Stewards permitted L Dittman to ride GUTHO in Race 3. J Kissick was examined by QAS staff after arriving on course and cleared to fulfill his riding engagement in Race 8.
 
 
Race 1: PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING RESPONSE GROUP Maiden Plate 860 metres
 
COALS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
LUCKY BRIZ – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Slipped behind passing the 400m, became unbalanced and lost ground resulting in rider E Lang became awkward in the saddle.
 
POSITIVE REWARD – Raced wide in the early stages and when placed under pressure in the home straight laid proving difficult to ride out. Trainer V Heading reported this was the horse’s first start on a right-hand track since arriving from Victoria, adding that going forward he would consider gear changes on POSITVE REWARD.
 
YOU BETTER YOU BET – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
INVANESS – Slow to begin.
 
SUBTLE MILA – Slow to begin.
 
TOKYO SINS – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight resulting in rider M Hellyer being unable to fully test the horse from the 200m.
 
Following the running of this event Stewards, Lockyer Race club representatives and a delegation of senior riders inspected a section of the racing surface near the 400 metres and found the track suitable to race.
 
 
Race 2: TAB - DOWNLOAD THE APP RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 860 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 5 minutes due to a track inspection following race 1 and the late scratching of MAXIMUM ALTITUDE in Race 2.
 
MAXIMUM ALTITUDE became fractious after being loaded in the barriers resulting in rider A Thompson damaging his left boot and it being unable to be utilised during the race. MAXIMUM ALTITUDE was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12:59pm by order of Stewards and on declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on MAXIMUMALTITUDE refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st BONGANI – 22c win, 23c place
2nd HERO’S TRINKET - 18c place
3rd MAHBABY – 12c place
 
Co-trainer R Tyrell was advised MAXIMUM OUTPUT would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
 
Rider Adin Thompson was examined by QAS staff and cleared to fulfill his remaining commitments.
 
SUPER ART – Raced awkwardly for a number of strides after the start and bumped with JUST VERA a short distance later. Approaching the 700m had to be steadied from the heels of SERTINI which hung in. Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 600m.
 
CLEARLY GEORGE – Awkwardly placed at the heels of MAHBABY which shifted in over the final 50m and was unable to be fully tested by its rider over the concluding stages. G Geran, rider of MAHBABY, was advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than on this occasion.
 
MAHBABY – Slow to muster speed in the early stages of the event. Laid out from the 400m.
 
MY MOSES – Taken wider on the track passing the 400m when MAHBABY shifted out.
 
JUST VERA – Bumped with SUPER ART shortly after the start. Hung out near the 700m and continued to race ungenerously for the remainder of the event. Approaching the winning post had to steadied after improving into a narrow run to the inside of LIVELY LASS which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
SERTIN – Hung in near the 700m.Taken wider on the track passing the 350m when MAHBABY shifted out to improve. Laid in under pressure passing the 150m. Rider A Donald dropped her whip near the 100m.
 
 
Race 3: SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TRADIES Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
GUTHO – Slow to begin.
 
MISS DE BOOM – Slow to begin. Raced greenly for the majority of the event.
 
FABULOUS BETTY – Raced wide throughout.
 
REGALO D'ORO – Shifted out at the start.
 
TYSON'S FURY – Shortly after the start shifted out and away from REGALO D’ORO.Checked near the 850m.At a subsequent inquiry apprentice Amy Graham, in the presence of her master Mr John Zielke, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 850m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of TYSON’S FURY which was crowded for racing room and had to be checked and lose its rightful running.The licence of A Graham to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 26th January up to and including midnight 2nd February 2023 with her free to resume riding in races 3rd February 2023.Raced keenly in the middle stages.Raced wide throughout.
 
CHILLI MOMENT – Raced wide throughout.
 
MISSY'S READY – Began awkwardly. Taken out shortly after the start.Raced wide throughout.
 
PRIDE AN' JOY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ZESTAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
HOT OR NOT – Near the 150m improved onto heels and as a consequence was obliged to alter course to the outside.
 
 
Race 4: BELL'S MEAT CO. Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
ALL WIN – Laid out rounding the home turn. Rider L Dittman reported the horse did not appreciate the tight turning track.
 
CAPITAN DE SEDA – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers.Slow to begin. Raced keenly at heels leaving the 800m.
 
BABU KING – Jumped in at the start.Laid out rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
MAGIC STEPS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
SUNLARK – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
PEARLS 'N' PIMMS – Commenced to over-race near the 800m and continued to do so for some distance thereafter.
 
DRAGON CLAWS – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.Raced wide for the majority of the event.Rider N Vuile reported with the addition of blinkers today the horse refused to settle and that she had recommended to connections that the blinkers be removed going forward.

POWER SISTER – Began awkwardly and shifted in at the start bumping RADIANT ROMANCE. Shifted out under pressure near the 150m.
 
THE REAL SAINT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
RADIANT ROMANCE – Began awkwardly after being bumped by POWER SISTER. Shortly after the start raced in restricted room to the inside of POWER SISTER and had to be steadied.
 
KABALEGA – Slow to begin. Momentarily raced in restricted room approaching the 500m. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer R Milne explained the gelding was first up today and that KABELGA races well fresh, adding the horse had been working well and a forward showing was expected.

RAGING WATER – Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Trainer M Faulkner was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners.

 
 
Race 5: VALLEY WASTE WATER RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1100 metres
 
GREY NOISE – Steadied when tightened for room near the 400m.
 
PETA CALADA – Slow to begin. Laid in momentarily near the 400m and tightened GREY NOISE which had to steadied. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Lost near hind plate in running.
 
SONIC ARROW – Over-raced for a short distance after the start when being restrained to obtain cover. Raced in restricted room to the inside of DYNAMIC JEWEL near the 800m and had to be steadied. Approaching the 150m brushed by POCKETROCKET and momentarily became unbalanced.   
 
NORTHERN MELODY – Jumped out at the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
POCKETROCKET – Slow to begin.
 
LAI SEE – Checked and taken wider near the 800m when DYNAMIC JEWEL shifted out. Inclined to lay in near the 600m.

DYNAMIC JEWEL – Commenced to lay in after the start and near the 900m shifted in despite the efforts of its rider resulting in SONIC ARROW being hampered. A short distance later DYNAMIC JEWEL shifted out abruptly and blundered after contacting the heels of PETA COLADA. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T Hurley was advised DYNAMIC JEWEL would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
 
 
Race 6: OZLAV PLUMBING Class 4 Handicap 1600 metres
 
WARP SPEED – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. G Geran, rider of WARP SPEED, was reprimanded under AR1312(7) (a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
HEMSWORTH – Laid out shortly after the start. J Molloy, rider of HEMSWORTH, was fined $400 under AR1312(7) (a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.

SLY CORNER – Jumped in at the start and bumped STORM ATTACK.

STORM ATTACK – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Rider M Hellyer reported it had been his intention to race in a forward position however after being bumped at the start and caught wide in the early stages, he was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated.
 
HELEVA DEEL – Forced wider near the 700m when WARP SPEED shifted out. Raced wide from that point onwards. W D’Avila, rider of HELEVA DEEL, was fined $300 under AR1312(7) (a)(ii) for use of the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 4 more than permitted.
 
BURLESY – Crowded on jumping and lost ground.
 
HE'S VIRAL – When racing keenly near the 1000m improved onto heels and shifted out.
 
EVRYNOW'N'THEN – After being slow to muster speed at the start, a short distance later was hampered when HEMSWORTH laid out.Leaving the 1000m improved to the inside of HE’S VIRAL and raced in restricted room for a short distance.
 
 
 
Race 7: HARMAN CONCRETING Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres
 
PAPADUM – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
SPILL THE TEARS – Jumped in at the start.
 
THECHAMP – Shortly after the start laid in and contacted the running rail. Awkwardly placed at heels near the 1200m and had to be steadied.
 
CLOUDY MISS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
SIZZLING DIAMOND – Slow to begin.
 
BLUE SMARTIE – Near the 200m shifted in and away from THECHAMP, contacted the running rail and became unbalanced.
 
MOUNT PADRAO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
MISHANI PHAROAH – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider reported the horse felt awkward in its action during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
 
Race 8: MCDONALDS GATTON BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1400 metres
 
TERRIUS - Brushed with APPLECROSS near the 150m.
 
ELIZANO – Raced wide in the early stages of the event.
 
ARTHUR IN CHARGE – Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
SEMAPHORE GIRL – Slow to begin. Raced keenly near the 1000m when the pace steadied.
 
BANDIT – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
 
EELLOH – Jumped out at the start and hampered MICHIGAN. Near the 100m momentarily steadied when MICHIGAN shifted in.
 
MICHIGAN – Hampered at the start when EELLOH jumped out. Laid out at the entrance to the home straight before shifting out near the 150m before being corrected by its rider.
 
CLASS OF ROYALTY – Change of tactics, to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. After being unable to muster sufficient speed in the early stages was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
 
SPIRIT’S CHARM – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
APPLECROSS – Brushed with TERRIUS near the 150m.
