GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 6: LEXINGTON LAD (M Savva) 55kg (+1kg)
Race 6: SIDEWALK (A Allen) 54.5kg (+0.5kg)
Due to 2 riders being transported to hospital following a fall in race 5, race starting times were amended as follows:
Race 6: 4:20pm
Race 7: 4:50pm
Race 8: 5:20pm
Race 9: 5:50pm

Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 60 Han 1400 metres
WHISTLING SPIRIT – Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and bumped MISHANI PERSUASION. A short distance after the start was steadied from the heels of HAVANOTHERGO which after shifting in and being corrected by its rider was then crowded momentarily by ELLIEZ STAR. Both A Allen, rider of HAVANOTHERGO, and G Cartwright, rider of ELLIEZ STAR, were asked to show greater care in similar circumstances. Over-raced a short distance later when being restrained to obtain cover. Hung out rounding the first turn near the 1200m and was then obliged to raced wide for the remainder of the event. Near the 50m, when weakening, was tightened for room and had to be eased when racing between HAVANOTHERGO, which laid out, and LIKE A LARK, which laid in. When asked to comment on the performance rider J Huxtable reported the horse, after beginning awkwardly, raced with its head in the air resulting in him being struck in the face, placing him at some disadvantages for the remainder of the event, adding that WHISTLING SPIRIT was inclined to race generously at various stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. J Huxtable was examined by QAS staff and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagement.
MISHANI KINGDOM – Steadied from heels in the early stages of the event.
MISHANI PERSUASION – Bumped at the start.
ELLIEZ STAR – Over-raced in the early stages when racing outside the leader. Laid out rounding the first turn near the 1200m.
Race 2: LAIDLEY CUP - SATURDAY 8TH APRIL Maiden Handicap 860 metres
DUCHESS OF MILAN was declared a late scratching at 1:34pm on veterinary advice after being loaded into the barriers the horse kicked out behind and became cast behind on the rear partition for a short time. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on DUCHESS OF MILAN refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
1st TEMPLEMORE – 5c win, 5c place
2nd ARCHER’S GAME – 8c place
3rd SIR ARCHER – 10c place
The trainer’s representative for Trainer L Hatch was advised a warning would be placed on DUCHESS OF MILAN’S barrier manners.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, the judge, who originally semaphored number 2 SIR WINCHESTER as second placegetter, altered second placing to number 12 CANYOUFEELIT.
SIR WINCHESTER – Jumped out at the start hampering ARCHER’S GAME.
ARCHER'S GAME – Hampered at the start and lost ground.
MAGANDA MISS – Slow to begin.
GEMMAYZE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
CANYOUFEELIT – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was adjusted. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

62 Handicap 860 metres
AMERICAN RED – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
DEEP STATE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inconvenienced near the 600m.
SINGLE MEMO – Shortly after the start was steadied from the heels of BAG OF WHITT which shifted in. A post-race veterinary examination of SINGLE MEMO revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer M Currie was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
BONGANI – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
REMEMBER MARY – Checked near the 600m. At a subsequent inquiry G Cartwright, rider of BAG OF WHITT, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 600m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of REMEMBER MARY was tightened for room and had to be checked and DEEP STATE, which was racing to the inside of REMEMBER MARY, being inconvenienced. The licence of G Cartwright to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence midnight 4th March up to and including 16th March 2023.
PETA CALADA – Crowded between runners shortly after the start and lost ground.
OAKFIELD BLOSSOM – Slow to begin.
Following this event, the track was upgraded to a Good 4.
Race 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 2000 metres
FIREBOX – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight and near the 200m was obliged to shift out to secure clear running after becoming awkwardly placed at heels.
TEXAS HOLD'EM – Raced wide from the 1200m.
EAST ESPLANADE – Bumped on the hindquarters passing the winning post on the first occasion.Raced wide in the early stages of the event before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 1400m.
BLAVATSKY – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages when being restrained. Inconvenienced and taken wider near the 200m when BOULT shifted out under pressure. Rider B Wheeler dropped his whip near the 50m.
ZOUESAY – Near the 1300m steadied from heels. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
SUMMER STAR – Over-raced for some distance approaching and passing the winning post on the first occasion. Near the 1300m, when over-racing, obliged to steady from heels.
BOULT – Near the 200m shifted out under pressure. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, trainer K Monckton advised the horse had backed up well from its most recent start at SCTC on Sunday 19th February, was down in class in today’s event and also was suited by leading on the tighter Gatton circuit. Stewards noted the explanation.
CLOUDY MISS – C Bayliss, rider of CLOUDY MISS, had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 2nd March up to and including 10th March 2023 under AR132(5) for excessive use of the whip on 17 occasions in totality, 2 more than permitted.
Race 5: BOWES ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres
CANNY CAT – Slow to begin.
TERRIUS – Began awkwardly. Stewards intend inquiring into the circumstance surrounding the gelding falling at the entrance of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of TERRIUS revealed a fractured frontal bone, and the horse was treated by the on-course veterinarian. Co-trainer M Sears was advised TERRIUS would require a veterinary clearance and an official barrier trial prior to its next race start. J Molloy the rider of TERRIUS was stood down from his remaining engagements and transferred to Toowoomba Base Hospital for further assessment. App Molloy was advised he would require a medical clearance (including a satisfactory cognitive test) prior to his next race or trial ride.
SIENNA'S AWARD – At the entrance to the home straight severely checked by the fallen horse TERRIUS, dislodging rider R Jamieson. R Jamieson was attended to by QAS staff and transported to Toowoomba base hospital. R Jamieson will require a medical certificate (including a satisfactory cognitive test), prior to her next race or trial ride. A post-race veterinary examination of SIENNA’S STAR revealed no abnormalities.
Following the running of this event Stewards inspected a section of the track at the entrance to the home straight and deemed the racing surface suitable to continue racing.
Race 6: ROCK TRADE INDUSTRIES Class 3 Handicap 1600 metres
SARODEC – Taken out at the start.
VANTAN EXPRESS – Raced with its head in the air when being restrained in the early stages. Taken in near the 1100m. Steadied from heels near the 500m. Held up rounding the home turn before being shifted inwards at the entrance to the home straight to secure clear running.
SEQUIN DRESS – Crowded soon after start and lost ground. Checked and lost ground near the 1100m. At a subsequent inquiry T Brooker, rider of SARODEC, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 1100m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of VANTAN EXPRESS which was taken in resulting in SIDEWALK being crowded for room and taken in and across the rightful running of SEQUIN DRESS which had to be checked. The licence of T Brooker to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 4th March up to and including 13th March 2023.
LAYLA'S SONG – As R Jamieson was injured, Stewards permitted B Ainsworth to ride the horse.
LEXINGTON LAD – Jumped out at the start.
FEND OFF – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
SIDEWALK – Taken in near the 1100m.
Race 7: TAB Class 1 Plate 1100 metres
START STRUTTING- After being loaded into the barriers, reared, and became cast and was subsequently withdrawn on veterinary advice at 4:51pm.On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on START STRUTTING refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
1st BRING ME FLOWERS – 8c win, 7c place
2nd JAQEN H’GHAR – 17c place
3rd TEMPTRESS KATE – 16c place
Trainer K Kemp was advised START STRUTTING would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse revealed a laceration to the off-hind heel and bruising to the off-hind canon.
JAQEN H'GHAR – Jumped out at the start.
ROCKATANSKY – From the wide barrier was restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rail.
TAORMINA RHYTHM – Near the 850m raced in restricted to the inside of KWAMI momentarily and had to be eased. Raced ungenerously in the middle stages when being restrained.
BRING ME FLOWERS – As J Molloy was injured, Stewards permitted C Collis to ride the horse.
LAGO DI BRAIES – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
SUPER ART – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
BEYOND THE SEA – Slow to begin.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 8: MCNEIL FARMS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1400 metres
GREY NOISE – Jumped in at the start.
HERECUM DA DRUMS – Slow to muster speed in the early stages.
ABOVE THE SKY – Improved onto heels rounding the home turn before shifting out to secure clear running a short distance later.
FOXY ROSE – Began awkwardly.
LADY DANORO – As rider Bradley Appo was to be overweight, Stewards permitted S Collett to ride the horse. Subject to further submissions from Bradley Appo, a fine of $100 under AR190(3.) was applied. Tightened for room in the early stages and lost ground.
RAKU'S SECRET – Bumped at the start. Raced in restricted room in the early stages of the event. Made the 1100m turn awkwardly.
MY ZEBRINKA – Checked near the 800m when ZEELUCK was taken by MISHANI PHAROAH which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.
ZEELUCK – Crowded for room and taken in near the 800m.
ROAD TO EMMAUS - When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, trainer J Townsend advised the horse was disappointing first up, and with the fitness benefit derived from that run, along with some changes he had made to the training regime of ROAD TO EMMAUS, he was still however somewhat slightly surprised by the performance today. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 9: SADDLEWORLD TOOWOOMBA RATINGS BAND 0 - 55
Handicap 1400 metre
KAMARCHER – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
ZATTASTAR – Began awkwardly. Forced wider on the track passing the 400m. Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event.
SKILLED ARTIST – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
CHICA BONITA – Slow to begin.
