Race 7: MCNEIL FARMS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1100 metres

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, M. Hellyer, rider of 2nd placegetter JAAMEELATI, viewed the patrol footage of an incident shortly after the start. After doing so, he lodged a protest against first past the post, ALBERT’S IN CHARGE, alleging interference near the 950m. After hearing submissions from connections of both runners, and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that leaving the 1000m, KLINSMANN (M. Murphy) was inclined to shift in and away from ALBERT’S IN CHARGE, which resulted in JAAMEELATI in turn, also marginally shifting in and away from KLINSMANN. Bearing in mind where the incident took place, and contributing factors from KLINSMANN, Stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the semaphored numbers.

KLINSMANN – Bumped on jumping. Taken in approaching the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Began awkwardly and lost ground. Leaving the 900m, was steadied from the heels of WHISTLIN DANCER and shifted wider on the track.

CHAPELIS –Very slow to begin.

AURORA DANCER (NZ) – Checked approaching the 900m. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey Jackson Murphy, rider of ALBERT’S IN CHARGE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that after initially allowing his mount to shift in at an acute angle approaching the 1000m he then made insufficient effort to prevent ALBERT’S IN CHARGE to shift in resulting in KLINSMANN being taken inwards crowding JAAMEELATI which in turn shifted in crowding and causing tightening to both LUZ LONG and AURORA DANCER which were checked as a consequence. Jockey Jackson Murphy’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days, commencing midnight 19th of May 2023 up to and including midnight 31st of May 2023. Approaching the 100m obliged to shift out across the heels of EASY COME to secure clear running. OPAQUELY, which was racing to the outside was obliged to steady as a consequence. Apprentice J. Lloyd was advised to exercise greater care.

JAAMEELATI – Bumped with WHISTLIN’ RULER at the start.

WHISTLIN' RULER – Bumped with JAAMEELATI at the start. Checked from the heels of AURORA DANCER leaving the 900m. Passing the 400m raced in restricted room to the inside of LUZ LONG and had to be steadied. Held up for clear running over the final 100m. On return to scale, WHISTLIN’ RULER was found to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer P. Moncrieff was advised that under the provisions AR79(4) the gelding is not to race for three months and must gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again.

Race 8: LOCKYER VALLEY PAINTING BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 2000 metres

Following the running of this event, barrier attendant C. Higgins was attended to by QAS staff after severing a finger on his right hand whilst loading the runners for this event. Mr Higgins received initial treatment on course, and then elected to transport himself to Toowoomba Hospital.

ALIRAAJ (NZ) – Began awkwardly.

QUOTANT – Raced wide throughout.

POPPY JOAN – Slow to begin. Apprentice J. Lloyd stated that after settling in a worse than mid field position the mare travelled comfortably in the nearly and middle and when shifted wider on the track leaving the 700m failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. Apprentice Lloyd added that POPPY JOAN did not feel entirely comfortably in its action on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer Mr P. Jenkins advised Stewards it is now his intention to send the mare for a spell.

EVRYNOW'N'THEN – Held up for clear running from the 400m until the early stages of the home straight.

Race 9: AGRICULTURAL REQUIREMENTS Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres

MOUNT ZION – Slow to begin.

EL ASTEROID (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey M. Hellyer, stated that EL ASTEROID would be more suited to a bigger track and potentially in races over alonger distance than that oftoday. He added that he had advised connections, that in his opinion, the gelding would benefit from the addition of blinkers.

EARLSTON – Began awkwardly.

JETSET ANNIE – Slow to begin. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

LAGO DI BRAIES (NZ) - Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CLEARLY GEORGE – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, trainer Vic Heading stated that at the horse’s most recent start at Burrandowan on the 6th of May, CLEARLY GEORGE resented the dirt kickback. He added that with the addition of blinkers today, and the tongue tie removed, he was confident of a forward showing. Stewards noted Mr Heading’s comments.

EMPEROR'S SECRET – Jockey J. Bayliss was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six times prior to the 100m, being one more than permitted.

CONTESSA NILE – Began awkwardly and a short distance later was bumped on the hindquarters.

Race 10:GATTON VIEW HOTEL BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1600 metres

CHANEL (NZ) – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 450m until rounding the home turn.

BOHEMIAN BOOM – Jockey J. Bayliss commented that the gelding travelled comfortably in the run, however, when placed under pressure from the 400m failed to respond to his riding and was very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be making an upper respiratory noise. Representative for trainer R. Heathcote, Ms M Sharpe, was advised that BOHEMIAN BOOM would require a veterinary clearance including the satisfactory results on an endoscopic examination prior to racing again.

HOT PROFIT – Leaving the 200m, was obliged to shift out across heels to secure clear running.

TEE AMICI – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice B. Wheeler, when asked to comment on the performance of TEE AMICI, stated that after being obliged to race three wide without cover, the horse failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. Trainer S. Morrisey advised instructions were to lead and when apprentice Wheeler was unable to comply with these in instructions, and with TEE AMICI racing three wide without cover, he was of the opinion this contributed significantly to the manner in which TEE AMICI finished the race off.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
