SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
 
GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 1: LOLA STAR – M Hellyer 55ks (+1kg)
 
Race 1: 1 ERROL & ROCHELLE BACHMANN & NOEL STARTZ QTIS
Three-Year-Old Maiden Han 1600 metres
 
TRAIN ROCK – Near the 1150m made the turn awkwardly, shifted out taking EASILY AMUSED wider on the track for a short distance. Laid in under pressure for majority of the home straight.
 
ENWHYCE – Weakened from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative for B. Laming reported the stable would be reviewing the immediate racing future of the horse.
 
THE SNUGGLER – Over raced in the early stages of the event and near the 1200m improved onto heels of ENWHYCE had to be restrained. Rider B. Andrew stated with the step up to a mile today, the horse raced flat when placed under pressure from the 400m.
 
EASILY AMUSED – Held up between the 400m and the entrance to the home straight. Laid in under pressure in the concluding stages.
 
FRIJOLES – Raced wide from the 800m.
 
LOLA STAR – Steadied from the heels of FRIJOLES and shifted in.
 
 
Race 2: JACK TILLACK & CORAL SHIMMING RATINGS BAND 0 - 58
Handicap 1600 metres
 
ROWLETT – After being crossed by EXTASSY leaving the 1300m over raced at that runners heels, had to be restrained and lost ground. Approaching and passing the winning post, raced in restricted room to the inside of WITCH DAY which was taken in by PRITI PIPER. Apprentice E. Lang rider of PRITI PIPER was advised to exercise greater care.
 
SOKUDO – Near the 300m disappointed for a run between THE DARK KNIGHT and PRITI PIPER.
 
FANTWA – Near the 1200m restrained from the heels of LUZ LONG (NZ) when the pace steadied. THE DARK KNIGHT which was following had to be restrained and lost ground. When asked to comment on the performance, rider S. Collett reported she felt the horse was somewhat disappointing today but noted the horse was up in class and may not have backed up from it’s last start on the 1st of June. Trainer M. Wilson advised connections will monitor the horse in the next 48 hours and review its current racing preparation.
 
THE DARK KNIGHT – Had to be restrained and lost ground when the pace steadied near the 1200m.
 
LUZ LONG (NZ) – After breaking away from the attendant in the saddling enclosure. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination prior to be loading into the barriers and was cleared to start.
 
PRITI PIPER – Shifted in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BUDDY'S TALE– Shifted wider on the track passing the 1200m after FANTWA shifted out when the pace of the race eased. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
HEEBEE RIGHT MATE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.  Weakened noticeably from the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-hind leg. Trainer S. Mesken was advised the gelding would need a veterinary clearance prior to returning to racing again.
 
 
Race 3: HEC FREEMAN & BILL FAULKNER Maiden Plate 1400 metres
 
MAC MONTY – Approaching the winning post had to be steadied from the heels of CHANCE AT MIDNIGHT which shifted in.
 
WAR SERVICE – From a wide barrier, restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.

MONGOLIAN FLAME (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
SUPER SWEET – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and was unable to be fully tested by its rider over the concluding stages.
 
BRIDGET WENLOCK – Fractious in the enclosure and reluctant to move onto the track, before proving difficult to load. Trainer T. Lambourn was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s pre-race manners.
 
TIKITIBOO – Raced wide throughout.
 
REDVEDEV (NZ) – Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted out.
 
VISCOUNT SYDNEY – When asked to comment rider T. Harrison explained the horse was not suited by todays tight turning track and that in her opinion, VISCOUNT SYDNEY would benefit from a step up in distance and the addition of blinkers.

SUPER RUPERT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider A. Thompson reported the horse raced greenly throughout.
 
Race 4: STEVEN KEONG (FREDDIE) KEEP UP THE FIGHT Class 2
Handicap 860 metres
 
JUST GETS BETTER – Near the 700m raced in restricted room to the inside of DUTCHYS ANGEL.
 
CABRINELLA – Shifted in under pressure near the 100m before being corrected by its rider.
 
HARDNESS – Raced wide throughout.
 
BON'S BETTER – Raced wide throughout. When placed under pressure near the 150m, put in an awkward stride, became unbalanced and was eased by its rider over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer N. O’Toole was advised the gelding would need a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
EVELYN SALT – Slow to begin.
 
POCKETROCKET – Slow to begin.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 4.
 
Race 5: 2023 TAB GATTON CUP SATURDAY 24TH JUNE Class 4
Handicap 1100 metres
 
JAMAICAN RUMBA – Weakened in the home straight when placed under pressure. Rider B. Wheeler advised the horse travelled comfortably in the run however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying upper respiratory noises. Co-Trainer Toby Edmonds was advised that JAMACIAN RUMBA would require a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination prior to resuming. Mr Edmonds also advised it was intention to send the gelding for an immediate spell.
 
RESILIENT STAR – Raced in restricted room passing the 1000m between GALACTUS and EASY COME both of which shifted ground. Raced wide throughout.
 
DOLLOP – Raced wide throughout.

ALLEZ ZOU (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide early. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m. Near the 100m when using the whip in the right hand, the whip of J. Huxtable contacted the whip of A. Thompson, rider of SHOCK AND AWE.
 
SHOCK AND AWE - Near the 100m when using the whip in the left hand, the whip of A. Thompson contacted the whip of J. Huxtable, rider of ALLEZ ZOU (NZ).
 
IN GREAT NIC – Raced at the rear of the field throughout the event. Rider R. Jamieson could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Trainer S. Sixtus was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for a poor performance.
 
EASY COME – Near the 50m, was crowded when bumped by GALACTUS and contacted the running rail when that runner shifted in under riding. E. Lang rider of GALACTUS was reprimanded for careless riding under AR 131(a) in this incident.
 
BEACH CLUB – Declared a late scratching at 10:06am on veterinary advice when found to have a stone bruise in the near fore hoof. Trainer B. Reardon was advised BEACH CLUB would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
 
Race 6: 6 BILL MCGOVEN & MICK BUGLER QTIS Three-Year-Old
BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1400 metres
 
BREAKWATER BOY – Laid out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
SPOOKY SPIRIT – Jumped in at start and bumped MISHANI KINGDOM. Raced wide from the 700m. 
 
MISHANI KINGDOM – Bumped after start. Rider T. Harrison reported she elected not to improve near the 500m as she would have been obliged to race wide from that point and therefore elected to ride for luck approaching the home turn, however when unable to improve to the inside of runners was then obliged to shift wider on the track at the entrance to the home straight. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
CLEARLY GEORGE – At the entrance to the home straight, momentarily steadied when SPOOKY SPIRIT shifted in.
 
BETTER CLAS – Began awkwardly, shifted in, and made heavy contact with the inside barrier petition. Raced wide throughout. 
 
ASHMOLEAN – Approaching the 100m, shifted out under pressure resulting in BETTER CLASS being obliged to steady from heels when weakening.
 
Race 7: WALLY CROSS & JACK BRENNAN BENCHMARK 68 Handicap
1400 metres
 
LETS TORQUE A DEEL – Raced wide for majority of the event.
 
LE HEROS – On arrival at the barriers and at the request of the rider, the horse underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkward.
 
RUBY'S LAD – From the wide barrier restrained to rearward position at the start. J. Stanley reported the horse was never comfortable on todays tight turning track.
 
TITANIUM – From the wide barrier restrained to rearward position at the start. Improves inside a narrow run to the rail.
 
HARRYANDTHETIGER – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
TERRIUS – Rounding the home turn when weakening was bumped by TITANIUM which after improving to its inside, contacted the running rail and shifted out resulting in TERRIUS becoming unbalanced and blundering. A short distance later put in an awkward stride. When asked to comment on the overall performance, Co Trainer M. Sears stated the horse is better suited when leading in its races and in today’s event was not suited racing off the speed. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
STELLAR PERFORMER – Slow to begin.
 
Race 8: GREG ELLIOT MEMORIAL TROPHY BENCHMARK 62 Handicap
2000 metres
 
BETTER ETHICS – Raced in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion. Stewards adjourned an inquiry to the whip use of J. Molloy prior to the 100m until Saturday the 10th of June at the Toowoomba race meeting.
 
DINNY'S A SUSPECT – Weakened under pressure from the 500m and eased by its rider in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-hind leg. Trainer T. Hall was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
COLLECTION POINT – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, when inclined to race keenly, raced in restricted room to the inside of IDLING BY and to the outside of BETTER ETHICS which was taken in by BOULT. At a subsequent inquiry, A. Thompson rider of BOULT was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to rule 131(a). Near the 1500m made the crossing awkwardly, raced ungenerously and became unbalanced for a short distance.
 
TOKYO BLOSSOM – When racing wide in the early included to over race and refused to settle. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co trainer M. Sears advised the filly would be sent for an immediate spell.
 
FIREBOX – Slow to begin.
 
IDLING BY – Checked near the 1400m. At a subsequent inquiry J. Molloy rider of BETTER ETHICS was found guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to rule AR 131(a) in that near the 1400m he permitted BETTER ETHICS to shift in when insufficiently clear of COLLECTION POINT which was taken in resulting in IDLING BY being checked and losing its rightful running. The license of J Molloy to ride in races was suspend for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 18/6/2023 up to and including midnight the 27/6/2023.
 
MASTER OF MENACE (NZ) – After beginning slow, was unable to muster speed in the early stages and settled at the rear end of the field.
