QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT LOCKYER VALLEY TURF CLUB GATTON – SATURDAY 24 JUNE 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – True. OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J. SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT GENERAL When inspecting the course prior to Race 1, stewards identified that the positioning of the rail at +1m between the 1250m and the 1150m caused a situation which would have required runners that had established a position following the inside rail to shift out and impede the running of runners to the outside. Stewards therefore ordered that the rail be shifted back to the true position.Stewards permitted the following overweight: Race 7 – M. Powell +0.5kg. Race 1: ARGYLE MASONIC LODGE NO. 164 QTIS Two-Years-OldMaiden Handicap 860 metres IN MOTION – Hung out badly rounding the home turn despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey J. Murphy reported to stewards that his mount laid out throughout the event. ARTZ ON FIRE – Declared a late scratching at 12:16pm on veterinary advice after becoming fractious in the barrier. Trainer M. Taylor advised stewards the gelding will be sent for an immediate spell and gave an undertaking that a further barrier certificate will be obtained prior to the gelding racing again. Upon declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all money invested in ARTZ ON FIRE to be refunded with the following deductions applied to successful wagers: 1st SPEEDY GRACE – 4c & 6c2nd TOUTE SWEET – 5c3rd PRINCESS LUTETIA – 5c LITTLEMISSCANCAN – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced and forced wider rounding the home turn to avoid the heels of IN MOTION which hung out despite the efforts of its rider. RAPID FALLS – Hung out throughout the event and raced very wide as a result, taking no competitive part in the event. Trainer T. Button was advised a warning was placed on the filly for its racing manners. SPEEDY GRACE – Jockey J. Stanley reported that his mount raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. BRAIDWOOD QUEEN – Raced wide throughout the event. Race 2: RAY BACHMANN REAL ESTATE QTIS Three-Year-Old MaidenHandicap860 metres WELUVYA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. TRAIN OF THOUGHT – Slow to begin. Hung out throughout the event and as a result weakened in the home straight. When asked to comment, Jockey A. Thompson stated that his mount was unable to muster sufficient speed during the early stages and indicated that a step up in distance would be beneficial to the filly. Trainer C. Byrne was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. HELEN'S DREAM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DOLLY'S A NATURAL – Raced wide throughout. Race 3: HAPPY 60TH JEFF EWING BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 860 metres MAXIMUM ALTITUDE – Laid in for majority of the event, particularly when under pressure in the home straight which prevented apprentice G. Semmens from fully testing the gelding over the concluding stages. Attempted to jump a shadow prior to the winning post. PALAZZO SPIRIT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. GOOD GRAB – Raced wide throughout. GREY NOISE – Raced wide throughout. LOGANS BLADE – Stewards questioned trainer E. Hargrave regarding the seemingly improved performance, Miss Hargrave stated that she felt today’s event was a step down in class and attributed the horses most recent poor performance to failing to handle the sand track surface at Gympie. Race 4: BOWES ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 860 metres POLYLITHIC (NZ) – Slow to begin. Jockey Liv O’Donnell reported to Stewards at scale that the gelding didn’t begin as well as anticipated and did not travel comfortably throughout the event and weakened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M. Currie advised stewards that in his opinion the significant increase in weight carried in today’s event had an effect on the horse’s overall performance and further added that it would be his intention to discuss with connections the geldings immediate racing future. ALL STASHED UP – Raced wide throughout. BEAUTY BOOM – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and contacted running rail. EVELYN SALT – Raced wide throughout. SUNIKI – Steadied near the 600m when obliged to race in restricted room. BEITSOO – Raced wide throughout. MARCH FORWARD – Shortly after the start, was steadied when obliged to race in restricted room between POLYLITHIC (NZ) and EVELYN SALT which was taken in slightly by BEITSOO. PENNY STOCKS – On return to scale, Jockey C. Taylor reported to Stewards that his mount made an abnormal respiratory noise during the event. Race 5: REDMOND'S PET & LIVESTOCK SUPPLIES LOCKYERLIGHTNING BENCHMARK 65 Hand 1100 metres ATLANTIC WAY – Slow to begin. CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) – Commenced to hang out for a short distance approaching the 900m and lost ground as a result. Hung out approaching the 400m. Shifted out abruptly over the concluding stages. VOULAIT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout ARTHUR IN CHARGE – Due to being dual engaged, Jockey J. Huxtable was replaced by M. McGillivray. WANDER – Raced wide throughout. Jockey M. Powell reported to Stewards at scale that the gelding in was short in its foreleg action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer K. Afford was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again. SHOCK AND AWE – Over raced in the early stages. MONTANA LADY – Raced wide throughout. DON'T DISS AROUND – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced over the concluding stages when CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) shifted out abruptly. Race 6: TAB GATTON CUP BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 2000 metres KAIBERRY (NZ) – Trainer B. Laming was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. RELUCENT (NZ) – Shifted wider to improve from the 1100m and raced wide from that point onwards. JERONIMOS (NZ) – Jockey J. Stanley reported to Stewards that his mount hung in badly from the 800m onwards. SPIRIT OF BEANS – Whilst being restrained from heels approaching the 1600m became awkward and shifted out and as a result raced wide from that point until leaving the 1400m. STELLAR PERFORMER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Race 7: PUBLIC SAFETY & TRAINING RESPONSE GROUP MaidenHandicap 1400 metres The start of this event was significantly delayed due to BRIDGET WENLOCK proving difficult to load and ultimately refusing to load. HUSSONHOFF – Heavily bumped by CASSIE’S GIRL when jumping away. Near the 200m, shifted out to secure clear running and again near the 150m was obliged to shift wider to secure clear running when disappointed for a run between JONDY GRACIE and SENNACHIE which shifted in. SHAMUKA – Over raced at heels when the pace slackened at the 1200m. Jockey J. Stanley reported that his mount did not handle the tight racing circuit being inclined to lay out for majority of the event. STAR OF PERU – Began awkwardly. When the pace slackened near the 1200m commenced to over race and was checked from heels, shifting wider on the track for a short distance. BRIDGET WENLOCK – Declared a late scratching at 3:50pm after refusing to load. Trainer T. Lambourn was advised the filly would require a barrier certificate prior to racing again. Upon declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all money invested in BRIDGET WENLOCK to be refunded with the following deductions applied: 1st SENNACHIE – 44c & 30c2nd HUSSONHOFF – 25c 3rd JONDY GRACIE – 31c WAN D'AMOUR – Placed in restricted room near the 1100m and had to be steadied when racing to the inside of STAR OF PERU. Raced greenly in the home straight. GLORY OF WAR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. JONDY GRACIE – Laid in in the home straight and near the 100m made heavy contact with the running rail. NEWMARKET MISS – Raced wide throughout. CASSIE'S GIRL – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with HUSSONHOFF. FLETCHER'S MUTINY (NZ) – Apprentice E. Lang Reported her mount laid in and as a result had to be steadied from heels at the 800m. Race 8: RDO EQUIPMENT GATTON BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1400 metres EASY BEAST (NZ) – Near the 1100m placed in restricted room and had to be steadied. HILL BILLY FLYER – Made the 1200m turn very awkwardly, shifted out and raced wide for a short distance. HARRYANDTHETIGER – Raced wide for the majority and for a short distance at the 1200m was forced wider until the 600m. DRATINI – Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted by jockey K. gates. After taking evidence from Jockey K. Gates and trainer L. Dillon, the matter was adjourned until a later time and date to be fixed. THE LOVE ROCKET – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. AU REVOIR – Trainer J. Bruce advised change of tactics and AU REVIOR would be ridden further back with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. CASH ME – Trainer J.
