Champkin Starter – K Watson GENERAL Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:Race 1: GYPSY POWER – N. Fazackerley 56.5kg (+0.5kg)Race 8: CHANEL – D. Smith 55kg (+0.5kg) Race 1: LOCKYER PRODUCE QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (860m) MISHANI MAVERICK – Contacted on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages. Weakened under pressure in the home straight. Rider J. Taylor reported the gelding felt somewhat awkward in its action on pulling up. Trainer L. Ross stated the gelding, which was first-up from a spell, would derive fitness benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. LETS DANCE JANDY – Began awkwardly shifted in and contacted MISHANI MAVERICK. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. I AM THOR – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. CANDY RAIDAR – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide from the 500m. MISS SANTA – Began only fairly. Approaching the winning post obliged to be steadied from heels after improving to the inside of MISHANI MAVERICK which was weakening over the concluding stages. ASSYMETRY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Race 2: MCNEIL FARMS Maiden Handicap (860m) Prior to declaration of correct weight H. Phillips, rider of 4th placegetter TUANAKI CREEK viewed the patrol footage of the concluding stages before electing to take the matter no further. MIKKI KIREINA – Began only fairly. BETTER OFF SINGLE – Raced keenly on the heels of TUANAKI CREEK in the early stages. PRIDE OF NALA – Laid out rounding the home-turn. TUANAKI CREEK – Rider H. Phillips was reprimanded under AR132(7)(ii) for using her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. Bumped approaching the finish line resulting in its rider becoming momentarily unbalanced. GRANNY'S REWARD – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 100m improved onto the heels of BETTER OFF SINGLE before shifting to the outside of that runner to obtain clear running. Approaching the finish line bumped with TUANAKI CREEK. SIZZLELOVER – Raced wide and throughout cover throughout the event. EMPEROR TEIO – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (860m) FLANK SPEED – After acting on a report from veterinary Dr C. Bowden-Betts that the gelding had presented with stitches on the near-side jugular, FLANK SPEED was declared a late scratching on Stewards at 1:25pm. The inquiry was adjourned to allow Stewards to enquire into the circumstances regarding FLANK SPEED presenting with a condition that had not been declared to the Stewards. Stewards ruled all deductions be applied to successful wages prior to 1:25pm to the following amounts.1st 11 cents per dollar for the win; 16c per dollar for the place2nd 13 cents per dollar for the place3rd 19 cents per dollar for the place BEAUTY BOOM – Began awkwardly. Bumped inside the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Rider J. Huxtable reported that the gelding wasn’t suited by the weight impost of 62kg and the wide run. Trainer L. Hatch advised that he would give consideration to BEAUTY BOOM going for a spell, as in his opinion the horse races best when fresh. BAG OF WHITT – Slow to begin and unable to muster sufficient speed. Rider A. Thompson reported in his opinion the gelding resented the cross-over noseband which was applied for the first time in this event. ALERT STATE – Rider J. Orman reported that in his opinion the gelding wasn’t suited to the firmer track conditions. EXTREME BELIEF – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Leaving the 300m after laying in, was corrected by its rider, shifted out and bumped BEAUTY BOOM. QUIRIN – Began awkwardly. UNDERHAND – Taken wider rounding the home turn when PRINCESS MARIAN laid out. PRINCESS MARIAN – Laid out rounding the home turn. SHOULD KNOW BETTER – Tightened onto the rail and checked approaching the 700m when racing in restricted room between HERO’S TRINKET which after racing in restricted was marginally taken inwards by QUIRIN which had a tendency to lay in and away. Race 4: VALE STEVEN KEON (FREDDIE) Class 2 Handicap (2000m) HARBELLE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider J. Huxtable was fined $300 under AR132(7)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. LA BREA – Over-raced in the early stages. Forced wider from the 400m. GOOGAZ – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Passing the 400m was steadied when ROYAL GEORGE which was weakening rolled in. Rounding the home turn taken out when ROYAL GEORGE laid and was then obliged to shift inwards across heels to obtain clear running. SMASHING LUCAS – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. WAIKATO – Help up for clear running from the 300m until the entrance to the home straight. Following the running of this event J. Huxtable was examined by QAS Staff and deemed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements. Race 5: ROCK TRADE INDUSTRIES Maiden Handicap (1400m) AMAZING JOURNEY – Declared a late scratching at 2:35pm on veterinary advice when found to have sustained an abrasion over its near-side hip when being transported to the track. Trainer C. Bills was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. Stewards ruled all deductions be applied to successful wages prior to 1:25pm to the following amounts.1st 5 cents per dollar for the win; 6c per dollar for the place2nd 6 cents per dollar for the place3rd 6 cents per dollar for the place REVE AMERICAIN – From a wide barrier shifted behind runners in the early stages. Taken wider in the home straight when GIDDY GAN’S JOY shifted out under pressure. AMIRITE – Bumped with BANKONAJET on jumping. BANKONAJET – Bumped on jumping. DARING DIEGO – Slow to begin. GIDDY GAN'S JOY – Stewards permitted Apprentice S. Callow to be declared the replacement rider when Apprentice A. Graham was delayed due to transport difficulties. Laid out rounding the home turn. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. UNUSUAL MELODY – Began awkwardly. BRONZE MEMORY – Apprentice S. Willis was permitted to replace Apprentice L. Sykes when Apprentice Sykes was to be overweight. Apprentice Sykes was fined $400 under 190(3). Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. PARIS FASHION – Slow to begin. ENDLESS APOLLO – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Rounding the home turn suffered a catastrophic fracture to the near-side fetlock and cannon bone and was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. A post-mortem sample was taken for analysis. Race 6: HARMAN CONCRETE BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1100m) PRINCE OF DIAMONDS – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. OUTLAW JOSEY WALES – Contacted on jumping. Raced wide and without cover in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn. Leaving the 200m disappointed for a run between OUR LIL SISTAR and SUNIKI which laid in marginally resulting in the gelding becoming awkwardly placed on heels for a short distance, before then being held-up for a short distance thereafter. MASTER RED – Approaching the 100m momentarily taken in when OUTLAW JOSEY WALES shifted in. HAIRY LOVER – Raced wide and without cover in the early stages. THE REAL SAINT – Crowded between runners on jumping. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported the gelding felt awkward in its action when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary revealed a one nostril bleed. Trainer C. White was advised of the provisions of AR79(8) that the gelding must gallop 1000m prior to racing again. DOTNED – Began awkwardly. Near the 900m improved onto heels and obliged to be steadied. BEACH CLUB – Raced in restricted room near the 900m and obliged to be steadied. COFFEE COMING – Began awkwardly, shifted in and contacted OUTLAW JOSEY WALES. EASY COME – Began awkwardly and bumped on the hindquarters. Raced wide and without cover in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 7: 7 QN NATIONAL HOTEL LAIDLEY BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1100m) FIRST PEOPLES – Difficult to load. Trainer D. Greeves was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for its barrier manners. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A post-race urine sample was taken from the gelding for analysis. BRIGHT REALM – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. POCKETROCKET – From the wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. In the early part of the home straight held up for clear running. Near the 100m obliged to shift across heels to obtain clear running. GREY NOISE – Began awkwardly. DISCONCERTED – Near the 1000m checked when crowded for room when ZEELUCK shifted in and away from ONE IN ALL despite the efforts of its rider. PETA CALADA – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. ME AS I AM – Raced keenly in the early stages. Race 8: AGRICULTURAL REQUIREMENTS GATTON BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1400m) GRECIAN LASS – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight. BUSHIDO – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Raced keenly in the middle stages. SHEPPEY – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Held-up rounding the home turn. TOP BOY – Began awkwardly and slow to muster speed in the early stages. STRYKING PRINCESS – Approaching the 500m was bumped heavily and lost ground when ROCKIN’ ARTIE shifted out from the heels of TOP BOY when there was insufficient room to do so. Apprentice B. Wheeler pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) with his license to ride in races subsequently being suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 30th July and to conclude midnight 8th August 2023. ROCKIN' ARTIE – Apprentice B. Wheeler lost the use of his off-side rein rounding the home turn placing him at some disadvantage in the early part of the home straight.
