Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 4: MAGIC OF MILLO – G Goomany 54.5kg (+0.5kg)
Race 7: RHAPALONG – D Smith 55kg (+1kg)
 
 
 
Race 1: BOWES ELECTRICAL MAIDEN PLATE 860M
 
The start of this event was delayed when PAPER COWBOY proved difficult to load. Trainer T Thomas was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.
 
MORE MAX – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority, hung out when passing the 600m.
 
PAPER COWBOY – Jockey G Cartwright was dislodged when her mount shied away from the crossing after the winning post. G Cartwright was examined by the QAS and was cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.
 
GETTIN' LIPPY – Slow to begin.
 
KINOSHITA – Became awkward and bumped the running rail when attempting to jump a shadow approaching the winning post.
 
SAY IT'S SO – As D McGillivray failed to arrive on course in time to fulfill this engagement, he was replaced by L Barr. Apprentice McGillivray was subsequently fined $200 under AR127(1). Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 600m.
 
TUANAKI CREEK – Raced wide throughout.
 
GUS THE BUS – Hung out for a short distance passing the 700m.
 
 
 
Race 2: NOLANS TRANSPORT GATTON CLASS 1 HANDICAP 860M
 
EXTREME BELIEF – Raced wide throughout.
 
ON THE TARGET – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice C Sutherland reported that in his opinion the gelding did not handle the tight turning track circuit as it was inclined to hang out throughout. A post-race vet examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DEVILS WHERE – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily with SUPER EXCEPTIONAL.
 
RUSSIAN DIVA – Slow to begin. Jockey M Wishart was dislodged when her mount shied away from the crossing after the winning post. M Wishart was examined by the QAS and was cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.
 
SUPER EXCEPTIONAL – Bumped heavily on jumping and had to be checked. Raced greenly during the early stages. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
BLUE SMARTIE – Apprentice S Willis reported to stewards that she lost the use of her offside iron when leaving the barriers, placing her at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event and in her being unable to fully test her mount over the concluding stages.
 
JAIN – Raced wide throughout.
 
TEE CEE TIGER – As TEE CEE TIGER was unable to be loaded on the float to be transported to the course, the mare was declared a late scratching at 10:28am.
 
 
 
Race 3: BEHIND THE BARRIERS QTIS THREE-YEAS-OLD BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1100M
 
MISHANI MAVERICK – Blundered entering the home straight and hung in under pressure from that point onwards.
 
I AM THOR – Hung in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
HAYAI UMA – Over-raced when leading during the early stages.
 
GALWAY HUSSLER – Reared as the start was affected and lost ground.
 
GROVERS PREDICTION – Raced wide throughout.
 
IMPENDING ROSE – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 4: GOODYEAR AUTOCARE GATTON QTISTHREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400M
 
MISHANI CRUISE – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly in the home straight and as a result became awkward at heels over the concluding stages and was obliged to shift out. J Orman reported that MISHANI CRUISE did not travel comfortably at any stage of the event and in his opinion did not handle the tight turning track. A post-race vet examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DAWN DOWN UNDER – Made the 1200m turn awkwardly and then raced greenly during the middle stages.
 
ZOU ZOU ZOEIA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
MAGIC OF MILLO – Over-raced during the early stages. Raced greenly under pressure when passing the 200m. Apprentice G Goomany was reprimanded under AR 132(7)(a)(1) for using his whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
 
Race 5: REDMONDS PET & LIVESTOCK SUPPLIES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600M
 
Prior to the running of this event the track was upgraded to Good 4.
 
IDEELIC – Declared a late scratching at 12:40pm on veterinary advice after becoming fractious in the tie-up stalls and suffering a laceration to the top of its head.
 
PROPHETS DE'VINE – Slow to begin. Obliged to race in restricted room near the 600m when racing to the inside of BANKONAJET which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
BANKONAJET – Laid in under pressure when passing the 600m. Trainer J Banks reported that following today’s disappointing performance the gelding would be sent for a spell.
 
VITA NOVA – Steadied from heels when the pace slackened after passing the 1300m. Obliged to race in restricted room near the 600m.
 
DARLHISMA – Checked from the heels of BAGUIO near the 1300m, when that horse shifted in whilst insufficiently clear before abruptly steadying the pace. A Thompson, the rider of BAGUIO was reprimand for careless riding in this incident under AR131(a).
 
BAGUIO – Became awkward in its action when rounding the home turn. A post-race vet examination revealed minor lacerations to both hind legs, consistent with having been galloped on.
 
CUE TO CONQUER – G Cartwright, rider of CUE TO CON QUER, was reprimanded under AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
A DEVIL'S CHANCE – Over-raced at heels and shifted out near the 1200m, and obliged to then race wide for some distance thereafter.
 
SUDDEN SUSPECT – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 6: PORTERS PLAINLAND HOTEL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1600M
 
CHASING JACKLEY – Over-raced during the early stages due to the slow early speed.
 
CALCAREOUS – Slow to begin.
 
ABRACADAZZLE – Raced greenly whilst over-racing during the early stages.
 
EPICURIOUS – Slow to begin.
 
KIKI COCO – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ROMAN HEIR – Ridden forward to settle outside the lead after racing wide during the early stages.
 
ECHO HUNTER – Raced wide during the early and middle stages after ABRACADAZZLE improved to its inside. A post-race vet examination revealed that the mare had suffered a laceration to the off-hind leg consistent with having been galloped on.
 
 
 
Race 7: FUSION HAIR GATTON RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1100M
 
ALBERT'S IN CHARGE – S Callow reported that her mount over-raced during the middle stages after being forced to work hard during the early stages to obtain the lead and in her opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the horse’s finishing effort.
 
PARUES – Steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start. K Matheson, when asked to comment on the horse’s performance, stated that after being tightened for room at the start the gelding was reluctant to race to the inside of other runners and as a result was somewhat field shy for most of the race.
 
VELENTINO – R Wiggins reported that his mount finished the race off with its tongue over the bit, adding that he had recommended to trainer R Severino that consideration be given to adding a tongue tie to the horse’s approved racing gear.
 
ORO – Steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
TRAITORS' GATE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
BEAU WITNESS – Became awkward in its action when entering the home straight.
 
POCKETROCKET – Slow to begin.
 
GRANNY'S REWARD – Raced wide during the early stages, before being restrained near the 900m to secure a position closer to the rail. When D Thornton was asked to comment on the tactics adopted, he indicated that from the wide barrier he was caught wide on the track and was obliged to restrain further back in the field than he would have liked, adding that he was slightly held up when rounding the home turn so elected to shift back to the inside and was happy with the mares’ finishing effort.
 
MASTER RED – Raced wide during the early stages.
 
LADY CUMBERLAND – Declared a late scratching at 3:26pm when it was found that the girth could not be tightened sufficiently and there was no suitable replacement gear at the barriers. On the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all bets refunded and the following deductions:

Race 8: HARMAN CONCRETING FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1400M
 
FOXY FRAULIEN – Raced wide throughout.
 
SPIRIT'S CHARM – Slow to begin.
 
RADIANT QUEEN – Slow to begin.
 
BETTER STRINGS – Slow to begin and failed to muster speed during the early stages. Shifted out across heels to secure clear running near the 200m.
 
LEAN IN – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
SCAT'S SURFER GIRL – Began awkwardly. Weakened significantly from the 600m and was eased by its rider in the home straight. A post-race vet examination revealed the horse to be suffering from Cardiac Arrhythmia. Representative for trainer A Neasham was advised that a satisfactory ECG and vet certificate must be provided for SCAT’S SURFER GIRL and must also trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
 
CHANEL – Raced wide throughout.
 
LOVIN' DE QUO – Over-raced when the pace slackened near the 1100m.
 
ABB ROY – Raced wide throughout.
 
COFFEE COMING – Over-raced when the pace slackened near the 1100m.
 
 
 
Race 9: MOZZA'S WELDING COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1400M
 
 
ARTIE BEATSOME – Contacted on the hindquarters by EPAUVESCENT passing the 300m and became unbalanced. Consequently, was then obliged to race in restricted room until the entrance to the home straight.
 
OUTLAW JOSEY WALES – Hung out whilst over-racing passing the 1100m and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
SIR PICCOLO – Slow to begin.
 
BIRAGUE – Raced wide throughout.
 
KORUTO – Raced wide throughout.
 
SCENIC RIM – Forced wider passing the 300m after EPAUVESCENT improved to the inside of ARTIE BEATSOME. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
STAR CHANCE – Slow to begin. Rounding the home turn was awkwardly placed at the heels of SCENIC RIM, which was taken wider on the track by ARTIE BEATSOME, which shifted out after being bumped on the hindquarters by EPAUVESCENT.
 
HERECUM DA DRUMS – Slow to begin.
 
BUIN ROAD – Shifted out rounding the home turn after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of STAR CHANCE. FLASH ZARIZ, which was following was hampered as a consequence. D Smith, rider of BUIN ROAD, was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 4 more than permitted.
 
EPAUVESCENT – Improved into doubtful racing room after passing the 600m to the inside of ARTIE BEATSOME and as a result contacted the hindquarters of that runner and the running rail after passing the 300m. Apprentice S Willis was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
FLASH ZARIZ – Hampered and steadied from the heels of BUIN ROAD rounding the home turn. Held up for clear running during the early stages of the home straight and was then obliged to shift out across heels near the 100m to secure clear running.
