TOOWOOMBA – MONDAY, 1 JANUARY 2024
 
Race 3: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1300m)
 
MOS OUT – On 4 January 2023 Trainer J. Thomas advised that the filly had pulled up well following the run and was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the poor performance. Stewards noted the comments nonetheless, Mr Thomas was advised the filly would require a full veterinary clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
Race 5: SKUSE GRAHAM CRIMINAL LAWYERS FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1100m)
 
VONZITHER – On 4 January 2023 Trainer C. Geran advised that the mare had pulled up well following the event. Mr Geran stated further that, in his opinion, the hard run with the heavy weight impost were telling factors in the finish.
 
Race 6: MORT & CO KING OF THE MOUNTAIN (1200m)
 
SALT LAKE BETTY – On 4 January 2023 Trainer D Forster advised the filly had pulled up well following the event, adding that, in her opinion, the filly struggled with the notable step up in class.
 
GENERAL
 
When O. Kendal was indisposed due to illness, replacements were made as per the Stewards Race-day summary. Apprentice Kendal was advised that she would require a medical clearance prior to race-riding again.
 
 
Race 1: HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP    (2000m)
 
SEA TREASURES (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Held-up approaching the 300m and obliged to shift in to obtain clear running.
 
MAN OF HEART – Slow to begin. Bumped rounding the home-turn when DELANEY’S GIRL was inclined to lay in under pressure. Continued to lay in under pressure in the home straight.  
 
PACKAGE – Approaching the 200m, shifted out to improve and bumped DELANEY’S GIRL, who was tightened between runners and became unbalanced. Apprentice L. Barr was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
DELANEY'S GIRL – Passing the 400m, raced in restricted room when BOOG’S BOY shifted out in an attempt to improve. Bumped with MAN OF HEART approaching the 300m when shifting out in an attempt to obtain clear running. Again raced in restricted room approaching the 200m between PACKAGE and MAN OF HEART and became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters. Rider J. Taylor reported the mare would derive significant fitness benefit from the run.
 
BOULT – Rider M. Hellyer reported the gelding was inclined to lay-out throughout the event. Laid-out under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOOG'S BOY – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Approaching the 300m, shifted out in an attempt to obtain clear-running, placing DELANEY’S GIRL. Apprentice E. Pomfrett was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
 
Race 2: GATTON GOODYEAR AUTOCARE MAIDEN HANDICAP (860m)
 
GUNNABEREADY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start. Slow to begin. Jockey L. Miller was severely reprimanded under AR132(6) for his whip use out of contention.
 
BRAVE SAILOR – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Carried wider rounding the home-turn.
 
LADY DE VEGA – Slow to begin. Shifted wider passing the 400m, before hanging-out rounding the home-turn forcing BRAVE SAILOR wider.
 
BIZ CLASS – Shifted out shortly after jumping.
 
EMPEROR TEIO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near-side nostril.
 
STARSPANGLE PLANET – Crowded shortly after the start when BIZ CLASS shifted out. Hung-out passing the 600m until entering the home straight.
 
 
Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (860m)
 
BEAUTY BOOM – Slow to begin. Approaching the 700m, momentarily became unbalanced and bumped when crowded inwards by DUCHESS OF MILAN.
 
THE RATTLESNAKE - Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.

LETS DANCE JANDY – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Put in an awkward stride entering the home straight and became momentarily unbalanced. Momentarily steadied passing the 150m when MISSY”S READY shifted out to obtain clear running.
 
RUSSIAN DIVA – Held-up for clear running entering the home straight before being disappointed for a run approaching the 200m and going to the line largely untested.
 
MISSY'S READY  - Approaching the 700m, obliged to be steadied when racing in restricted room.
 
DUCHESS OF MILAN – Obliged to shift inside heels leaving the 100m to obtain clear running, before improving onto heels and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
BONGANI – Approaching the 700m, obliged to steady when placed in restricted room. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lost its near-fore plate.
 
 
Race 4: HARMAN CONCRETING CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1600m)
 
UNION SPIRIT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Toowoomba on Monday, 1 January 2024 and passed fit to start.
 
MARTINI DANCER – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
ALERT AND READY – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
LONERGY – Slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
FORCE ME (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start. After beginning well, was ridden positively in the early stages and obtained a position further forward than may have been expected.  Laid out under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a superficial laceration to the near-foreleg consistent with being galloped on.
 
FEUDALIST – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
Following the running of this event, the track was upgraded to a good 4.
 
 
Race 5: LADBROKES RACING CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100m)
 
Whilst parading for the running of Race 5, WANTA WILLOW commenced to become fractious, reared over, and dislodged Apprentice E. Pomfrett. Apprentice Pomfrett required immediate medical attention and was tended to by QAS Officers. Due to the requirement for prolonged care and air transport from the track to Brisbane Hospital, Stewards in conjunction with all riders made the decision to discontinue the race-meeting and postponed the remaining 4 races due to the circumstances.
 
WANTA WILLOW – Fractious in the mounting yard, reared and fell. Trainer D. White was advised that the mare would be required to officially trial to Stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again.
