STEWARDS REPORT LOCKYER VALLEY TURF CLUB SATURDAY 30th MARCH 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 7 RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – K. DalyStewards – E. Tickner, F. Hartford, K. Lemay-Robbins, L. Dewitt- Rowson (Cadet) GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweight’s – Race 4: J. Stanley +1kg (55kg) Race 5: M. Schrapel +1kg (55kg)Race 6: M. Schrapel +1kg (55kg)Race 7: M. Schrapel +1kg (55kg) Race 1: RIVER 94.9 / BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 860 M MR ENCORE – Shied at the shadow of the winning post and put in an awkward stride. BOLD RANSOM - Raced wide for the majority. Near the 400m was taken wider. SZABO – Near the 450m laid out, resulting in MASSABIELLE and BOLD RANSOM being taken wider. SMILING ZAC (NZ) - Put in an awkward stride rounding the home turn. Jockey N. Tomizawa was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. MASSABIELLE – Raced wide throughout. Near the 400m was taken wider. Race 2: AGRICULTURAL REQUIREMENTS / LOCKYER & SOMERSET INDEPENDENT MAIDEN PLATE 860 M MAILOUT– Raced wide with cover for the majority. FLYING MILO – On jumping apprentice J. McMurray lost use of his offside iron, placing him at a significant disadvantage throughout the race. Raced wide for the majority.MALTALI – Crowded on jumping between FLYING MILO and LORD LOUISON, which jumped inwards. RED SWAN – Raced wide for the majority. DARE TO LOVE - Laid out rounding the home turn. SALACIA - Slow to begin. RICHKISS – Raced wide for the majority. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice N. Olzard, in the presence of Racing Qld jockey mentor R. Fradd, was advised that she should desist in applying the whip in similar circumstances when her mounts are laying out. SISTER GEORGIA – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load. Trainer B. Everingham was advised that a warning would now be placed on the mare in relation to its barrier manners. Race 3: QN HOTEL LAIDLEY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 860 M The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes when holding for an interstate thoroughbred race, which was running behind schedule. LETTERS OF ROMANCE– Raced keenly in the early stages. Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted out. LITTLEMISSCANCAN - Momentarily held up on the heels of LETTERS OF ROMANCE passing the 400m. NIRVANA BEAUTY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. QUINSTEP GIRL – Raced wide for the majority. WEDGING – Slow to muster speed in the early stages. ABOVE THE WORLD - Began awkwardly. Raced greenly for the majority of the event and as a result, passing the 600m, shifted in abruptly on its own accord and contacted the running rail. Race 4: LOCKYER VALLEY DRAFTING DESIGNS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100 GALEKA – After aggravating a pre-existing superficial laceration to the near hind hock when being transported to the track, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. After beginning awkwardly, blundered shortly after and lost ground. Put in an awkward stride entering the home straight. SHEZA MARVEL – Raced keenly in the early stages of the event. FINAL ILLUSIONIST – Jumped in at the start and bumped REDVEDEV. MARLEEDOONE – Slow to muster speed in the early stages. Near the 150m, shifted out across heels to obtain clear running. SPEEDY GRACE – A short distance after the start, raced in restricted room between SHEZA MARVEL and JUST LOOKING, which laid in marginally before being corrected by its rider. When asked to comment on the performance of the filly, jockey J. Stanley stated that the instructions were to make use of a good barrier and to ride SHEZA MARVEL where comfortable. He reported that the filly travelled well during the early and middle stages of the event, however when placed under pressure from the 350m, did not finish the race as expected and was disappointing. He further added that SHEZA MARVEL may not have been entirely suited to todays prevailing track conditions. REDVEDEV (NZ) – Bumped at the start. Race 5: 2024 ONE RESPONSE LAIDLEY CUP BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1600 M VOLDEMORT– Attempted to buck for a number of strides a short distance after the start. Trainer L. Abbot was advised that VOLDEMORT would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. Raced three wide with cover during the early and middle stages of the event. BIE'RES – Raced three wide without cover for the majority. CAIRNDOW – When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, jockey M. Schrapel reported that the gelding never travelled at any stage of the race. Trainer D. Lane also expressed disappointment and indicated he would now experiment with the gelding’s gear, in particular the addition of blinkers. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of a slow post-race recovery.Mr Lane was advised that CAIRNDOWN, in light of its poor performance, would now incur a TAB bar until the gelding establishes form to a standard to be considered competitive at non-TAB venues. Race 6: LOCKYER VALLEY WASTE MANAGEMENT BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1600 M SCOTTISH PRINCE – Blundered on jumping. Raced three wide during the early and middle stages of the event. IVANOV – Shifted out on jumping. Apprentice O. Webb, rider of fifth place getter IVANAOV, was reminded of her obligations pursuant AR131(b) to ride her mounts out fully to the end of the race. MIKKI EIGHT– Began awkwardly. AQUARIUS – After being slow to begin, was hampered and lost ground. Raced wide with cover during the middle stages of the event. Race 7: FALVEY'S HOTEL GATTON - OFFICIAL AFTER PARTY CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400 M EVERLAST – Near the 100m, momentarily steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of WHISTLIN’ RULER, which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. SECRET RED – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Near the 100m improved onto the heels of EVERLAST before shifting out to obtain clear running. BUIN ROAD – Jumped in at the start and bumped EXTASSY. FAST LADY – Rounding the home turn momentarily held up on the heels of BUIN ROAD. EPAUVESCENT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. WHISTLIN' RULER – Raced wide with cover during the middle stages of the event. EXTASSY – Bumped at the start. SALT AND PEPPER – Stood flat footed and lost ground. Trainer M. Nolan was advised that a warning would now be placed on the gelding in relation to its barrier manners. Approaching the 1200m, when racing keenly, improved onto the heels of WHISTLIN' RULER and shifted out, taking GO NOW wider on the track. Proceeded to race wide for the majority of the event. Approaching the 100m, momentarily steadied when EXTASSY shifted out under pressure. GO NOW – Taken wider approaching the 1200m when SALT AND PEPPER shifted out. Raced wide from that point onwards before weakening noticeably from the 400m. Following the disappointing performance, co-trainer Mr. D. Lane advised that GO NOW would now be leaving the stable. Nonetheless, Mr. Lane was advised that GO NOW must officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
