GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 1: 12 VADAMOON (NZ) – M. Hellyer +1kg (55kg)
Race 2: 10 MILEY’S MEMORY – M. Cahill +1kg (55kg)
 
As Jockey A. Allen was ill, Stewards permitted rider change as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: DONATE TO MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION MAIDEN HANDICAP    1400 M
 
GOLD PRINCE – Bumped on jumping. Taken wider rounding the home turn when COCO JEWEL was taken out by OCEAN HONOUR.  Raced wide throughout.
 
OCEAN HONOUR – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SHADOW MISTRESS – Momentarily became awkwardly placed on heels at the 1300m.
 
DILIGENTE – Improved onto heels near the 800m and had to be steadied. Momentarily held up near the 300m. When asked to comment on the performance of the filly specifically in the home straight, Jockey L. Tilley stated his mount commenced to lay out marginally near the 200m and shifted further than anticipated and was then obliged to shift to the inside of IRISH GYPSY approaching the winning post.   
 
FABULOUS BETTY – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
 
GREEN PARK – Bounded in the air as the start was effected. Restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a position nearer the rail. Over-raced in the middle stages. Improved onto heels near the 1000m and shifted wider.  Shifted out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
NOAH – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled both nostrils for the first time. Trainer D. Murphy was advised the gelding would be stood down from racing pursuant to AR 79(4) for 3 months and must trial or gallop 1000m prior to its next start.
 
VADAMOON (NZ) – Rounding the home turn, became awkwardly placed at the heels of OCEAN HONOUR when that runner shifted out to improve.
 
COCO JEWEL – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Taken wider rounding the home turn when OCEAN HONOUR improved to the inside.
 
Race 2: LADBROKE IT! BM65 HANDICAP    860 M
 
DEFERENCE – Raced wide for the majority. Taken wider rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
WRITTLE – Shifted out to improve approaching the 400m and bumped with PRINCESS MARIAN. Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from one nostril for the first time. Trainer L. Hatch was advised the gelding must gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards pursuant to AR 79(8) prior to resuming.
 
AL PAL'S GAL – Slow to begin. Taken wider rounding the home turn. Momentarily dipped in its action shortly after entering the home straight.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HOT OR NOT – Raced wide for the majority. Apprentice J. McMurray reported on pulling up the mare felt awkward in its action and dismounted prior to returning to the mounting enclosure. HOT OR NOT was immediately treated by the on-course veterinarian where it was established the horse had sustained an injury to the off-hind leg and was subsequently euthanised on humanitarian grounds. Post-mortem samples were taken from the horse for analysis.
 
MR MIDNIGHT – Crowded on jumping and had to be restrained. Approaching the 700m, raced keenly on heels for a short distance. Momentarily dipped in its action shortly after entering the home straight.
 
SONGZILLA – Bumped on jumping. Shortly thereafter, crowded for room when HOT OR NOT shifted in. Taken wider rounding the home turn.
 
PRINCESS MARIAN – Bumped near the 400m when WRITTLE shifted out to improve. Taken wider rounding the home turn.
 
MILEY'S MEMORY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped.
 
PRINCE OF MARAKESH – After being loaded into the barriers, the near hind leg became momentarily cast. Was removed, underwent a veterinary examination, and was subsequently cleared to start.
 
Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD BM60 HANDICAP 1100 M
 
UPSTART LEGEND – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight before being corrected by its rider.
 
ROTHGO – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
BEEBEE DAZZLER – After being slow to begin, shifted out and contacted the hindquarters of CONEY ISLAND BABY.
 
CONEY ISLAND BABY – Bumped on the hindquarters at the start.
 
ISLE ORNSAY – Slow to begin.
 
 

 
Race 4: FAVLEY’S HOTEL GATTON 0 - 58 HANDICAP         1400 M
 
The start of this race was rescheduled to 2:30pm to await a replacement ambulance after an on-course patron became ill. 
 
HAYAKU – Laid in under pressure approaching the 100m.  
 
STORMTROOPER – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
I'M A TINY DANCER – Connections advised a change of tactics, to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. Slow into stride, unable to muster speed, settled at the rear of the field.
 
JIMMY NEUTRON – Raced wide in the early stages before progressing forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 900m. On retuning to the race day tie ups after the event, commenced to exhibit signs of heat stress and underwent immediate veterinary treatment. Connections were advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.
 
VACATION LEAVE – Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
 
MORE MAX– Crowded for room and had to be checked approaching the home turn. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that leaving the 300m MONDAY MONDAY improved to the inside of JIMMY NEUTRON, which shifted in marginally placing MONDAY MONDAY in restricted room which continued to shift in and away from JIMMY NEUTRON. Stewards could not apportion blame to any one rider, other than to advise all riders to exercise care when shifting ground.  As a result, M. Castle desisted from pressuring MORE MAX in the home straight as she was of the opinion something may have been amiss with the gelding.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SOOZIE MAREE – Raced wide in the early stages. Jockey H. Richardson reported the mare finished the race with its tongue over the bit.
 
ABB ROY – Momentarily awkward on heels near the 700m.
 
 

 
Race 5: GATTON MEAT CENTRE 0 - 58 HANDICAP         1400 M
 
After contact was received from Racing Queensland, the start time for Race 5 was amended from 2:42pm to 2:49pm.
 
BELLE'S BOY – Stewards questioned Apprentice Z. Sprie, rider of BELLE'S BOY over tactics adopted in the race, in particular his decision when racing outside ANNAKURI which led the event, to pressure that horse between the 1000m and 400m. Apprentice Sprie stated instructions were to be positive on the horse and to race in a handy position with cover if possible. In the presence of RQ Apprentice Mentor Mr R. Fradd, and after viewing the race footage, Apprentice Sprie agreed with Stewards that he had erred in not attempting to restrain BELLE’S BOY to a position behind ANNAKURI mid-race and so give the horse an opportunity to finish the race off.
 
EL ASTEROID (NZ) – Approaching the 1300m, became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels when crowded and was obliged to steady. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
MIKKI EIGHT – Trainer N. Beck advised Stewards in light of today’s performance, it is his intention to now send the gelding for a spell.
 
TOBA – Shifted out at the start and bumped MARIPOSA.
 
HOLY TROJAN – Shifted out at the start and bumped HERECUM DA DRUMS.
 
MARIPOSA – Bumped at the start.
 
HERECUM DA DRUMS – Bumped at the start.
 
 

 
Race 6:GATTON CUP CALCUTTA – GATTON JUBILEE GOLF CLUB - FRIDAY 28TH JUNE BM62 HANDICAP         1400 M
 
AZURE PRIDE – Shifted in at the start.
 
IRING – Slow to begin. Near the 1300m shifted in of its own accord and contacted the running rail. Shifted out near the 800m. Shifted in abruptly under pressure approaching the winning post.
 
ARCHER'S GAME – Shifted in at the start and bumped THE LOVE ROCKET.
 
HEARSAY– Forced wide from the 800m when IRING shifted out and was then obliged to race wide from that point on.
 
DOUBLE SCOOP – Shifted out on jumping. Restrained at the start from the wide barrier to obtain a rearward position nearer the rail.
 
RADIANT QUEEN – Shifted in approaching the winning post.
 
THE LOVE ROCKET– Bumped at the start. Placed under pressure at the 700m.
 
DROP THE PILOT – Approaching the winning post raced in restricted room and had to be steadied when RADIANT QUEEN shifted in. Jockey L. Tilley was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
 

 
Race 7: MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION CHARITY GOLF DAY - FRIDAY 28TH JUNE – BOOK NOW 07 5462 1420 BM62 HANDICAP        1100 M
 
KRAKARIB – Shifted ground under pressure in the home straight.
 
CABRINELLA – Began awkwardly shifted out and bumped CHISUM. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer R. Pereira was advised CABRINELLA would be stood down from racing pursuant to AR 79(4) for 3 months and must trial or gallop 1000m prior to its next start.
 
MISTER MONARO – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages. Trainer J. Cameron reported the horse finished the race with its tongue over the bit and indicated she would now add a tongue tie to the horse’s gear.
 
SADDLE BOY – Buffeted between runners and raced in restricted room for a short distance thereafter before being restrained and shifted nearer to the inside running rail. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 300m, had to be steadied when crowded for room between CHERRY SODA and CHISUM (S Collett). Jockey S. Collett was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey J. Stanley reported it had been his intention to ride in a more forward position however after being crowded at the start, the horse settled further back than anticipated.
 
ROWDASH – Raced wide throughout. Near the 150m, momentarily steadied away from CHISUM which shifted out. Soon after was bumped when MISTER MONARO shifted out. Apprentice S.McCann, rider of ROWDASH, was fined $200 pursuant to AR 211(1) for returning to scale in excess of 0.5kg.
 
ELLE OF A BELLE – Shifted out on jumping, bumped, then shifted in and bumped SADDLE BOY. Raced wide for the majority. Near the 100m, shifted in under pressure.
 
CHISUM – Bumped at the start. Trainer R. Watts was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2) for failing to have the hind bandages on CHISUM stitched.
 
CHERRY SODA – Shifted in and bumped on jumping.
 
 
 
 

 
Race 8: TICKETS ON SALE NOW - 2024 LADBROKES GATTON CUP - SATURDAY 29TH JUNE 0 - 58 HANDICAP      1100 M
 
ONE IN ALL – Laid out leaving the 800m. Raced keenly in the middle stages and near the 500m, steadied from the heels of FLYING TYROL. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
SMILING ZAC (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped PHEEBLE'S SPIRIT. Raced wide. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice J. McMurray,rider of SMILING SAZ, was advised to stop and straighten his mount in similar circumstances.
 
FREAKSHAKE – Raced wide throughout.
 
HERMANITA – Held up for clear running between the 400m until near the 200m, before shifting to the inside of SMILING ZAC (NZ) approaching the 100m to obtain clear running.
 
SHAPIN POWER – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 800m.
 
PHEEBLE'S SPIRIT – At the start taken in and bumped JUST LET IT OUT. Leaving the 300m, bumped by HERMANITA, shifted out hampering JACKIEDOWNTHELINE which became awkwardly placed at the heels of SMILING ZAC. Momentarily steadied from heels soon after entering the home straight when inclined to lay in. Raced wide throughout.
 
JACKIEDOWNTHELINE – Slow into stride. Leaving the 300m, taken wider and was awkwardly placed on heels. Raced wide throughout.
 
FLYING TYROL – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Made the home turn awkwardly. Near the 100m, momentarily steadied from the heels of HERMANITA which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice T. Fenlon was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
SISTER GEORGIA – Buffeted on jumping.
 
JUST LET IT OUT – Bumped and lost ground at the start.
 
PARUES – Began awkwardly, shifted in making heavy contact with SISTER GEORGIA which became unbalanced. Raced wide throughout.
