SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Gold Coast – Saturday, 31 August 2024 - Race 7: FAMILY FUN DAY 7TH SEPTEMBER BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1900m)
 
HULKAMANIA – Apprentice J. McMurray pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on ten occasions prior to the 100m, five more than permitted. Apprentice McMurray’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight days, to commence midnight Thursday, 18th September and to expire midnight Thursday 26th September 2024. Stewards ordered that a portion of the suspension be served concurrently with the suspension he incurred in Race 2, as to ensure the penalty period to be served, was not manifestly excessive.
 
GENERAL
 
When Apprentice L. Sykes, Apprentice C. Sutherland and Apprentice J. Williams were all indisposed due to illness, Stewards permitted replacements as per the Stewards’ Race-day Summary. Apprentice Sykes, Apprentice Sutherland and Apprentice Williams were all advised medical clearances would be required prior to riding again.
 
 
Race 1:BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN HANDICAP (860m)
 
CASUAL MAN – Laid out rounding the home-turn.
 
DARE TO LOVE – Made the home-turn awkwardly. Apprentice R. Thorburn reported the mare laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOATING – Slow into stride.
 
KELANDA – Raced wide and without cover for the majority. Laid out rounding the home-turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SUSPICIOUS LOVE – Apprentice J. McMurray reported the filly, which was having it first race-start, would take benefit from the experience and would be better suited over further distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
QUEEN NINA – Raced ungenerously in the early stages.
 
JEDIAH – Slow to begin, then failed to muster early speed. Made the home-turn awkwardly and dipped on two occasions. Trainer L. Derecourt was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for its poor start.
 
MISS HONEYCOMB – Raced keenly for some distance passing 400m.
 
BRAIDWOOD QUEEN – Raced wide and without cover for the majority. Laid out for some distance for some distance passing the 300m.
 
 
Race 2: LADBROKES OWN SPRING BM65 HANDICAP (1100m)
 
ESJAY – Rider L. Tilley could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities but for the gelding to have lost its near-hind plate.
 
SIR CARTER – Began awkwardly.
 
LITTLE VISTA – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 100m, momentarily steadied and shifted out, when racing in restricted room.
 
IT’S RAINING AGAIN – Slow into stride. Approaching the 400m, steadied from the heels of POINT BREAK and shifted out to race wide and without cover.
 
POINT BREAK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ROCK DIAMOND – Laid in for some distance leaving the 1000m.
 
 
Race 3: FALVY’S HOTEL GATTON CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1600m)
 
CONQUISTADORES – Began awkwardly.
 
DO IT FOR YOU –Made the home-turn awkwardly.
 
MY WHISTLEBLOWER – Began awkwardly.
 
READY TO THUNDER – Laid out round the home-turn and when under pressure in the home straight.
 
QUICK SHOT – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
CAMELOT STAR – Change of Tactics - to be ridden positively from the more favourable barrier; settled on-pace.
 
AQUARIUS – Apprentice J. Metcalfe dropped her whip leaving the 200m.
 
 
Race 4: SADDLEWORLD TOOWOOMBA BM60 HANDICAP (860m)
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing connections of third-placegetter UNO MOON to view footage of an incident approaching the 700m, and it was decided not to proceed with the matter. As Stewards were of a similar view, correct was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.
 
UNO MOON – Slow into stride.
 
BETTER THAN BOOZE – Began awkwardly. Hampered when JAIN shifted out after being tightened near the 700m, carrying GYPSY TRICKS wider.
 
GYPSY TRICKS – Carried out approaching the 700m.
 
MISHANI AMBITIOUS – Reared on jumping and lost ground. Trainer D. Stanbridge was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record.
 
DONMORE GIRL – Raced wide without cover for the majority.
 
JAIN – Tightened for room near the 700m and became unbalanced.
 
THE BELL JAR – Raced wide and without cover for the majority.
 
Apprentice R. Thorburn (BEITSOO) was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 700m, when insufficiently clear of JAIN, which was tightened and taken in onto UNO MOON, which was tightened for room, obliging App J. Busuttin to take hold of the gelding. Apprentice R. Thorburn’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing midnight Sunday, 8 September and concluding midnight Monday, 16 September 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered the interference and carelessness to be in the mid-range, his status as an apprentice and the careless riding guidelines.
 
 
 
Race 5: LADBROKES RACING CLUB BM60 HANDICAP (1400m)
 
PRIVATE BANKER – Raced wide and without cover in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
COMMAND APPROVED – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
HIT ‘EM UP – Apprentice J. McMurray could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
TEMPLEMORE – Raced wide without cover for the majority. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
DUSTYIAM – Slow to begin.  Near the 300m, steadied off the heels of RADIANT QUEEN, which shifted out to improve.
 
 
Race 6: MCNEIL FARMS MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400m)
 
NOT A SINGLE DRINK – Slow into stride. Apprentice A. Graham pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she did use her whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m. Apprentice Graham’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, commencing at the conclusion of a suspension incurred at the Gold Coast, 31 August 2024, at midnight Wednesday, 11 September 2024 and concluding midnight Wednesday,18 September 2024. In assessing penalty, account was taken of her guilty plea, record, her status as an apprentice and the totality of her whip use (17).
 
PEACH GALANTES – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages before being struck across the head on two occasions by the whip of rider A. Mallyon(NOT A GURU).
 
NOT A GURU – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.
 
PROPHET OF BOOM – Raced wide without cover for the majority.
 
YOU’LL NEVER GUESS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
ELLEYANNA – Weakened from the 200m. Rider N. Tomizawa stated he had to make to some use of the mare early to obtain a forward position, and this proved detrimental to its finishing efforts. He added the mare may be better suited over shorter distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be coughing and an upper respiratory noise. Trainer M. Nolan was advised a veterinary clearance, inclusive of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to racing again.
 
SNAKESKIN – Raced wide without cover from the 800m.
 
CHASING POINT – Eased down from the 200m. Rider S. Collett reported the mare never felt fully comfortable throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrythmia for the first occasion. Trainer M. Wilson was advised that a veterinary clearance inclusive of an ECG would be required prior to completing a satisfactory 1000m gallop and a post-gallop veterinary check before racing again.
 
CHICKA – Stewards permitted Apprentice R. Thorburn to claim 1.5kg of his 2kg allowance. Raced keenly in the middle stages and near the 600m, steadied from the heels of LION’S PRIDE.
 
Race 7: BOOK YOUR WORK XMAS PARTY AT GATTON RACES FRIDAY 20TH DECEMBER RATINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP (1100m)
 
RECANTI – Obliged to ease near the 800m when CRAIGLEA ETNA momentarily shifted in. Rider H. Richardson (CRAIGLEA ETNA) was advised to exercise greater care.
 
YAMUMZA – Severely tightened between runners soon after jumping.
 
DUNTROON LASS – Obliged to steady when CRAIGLEA ETNA shifted in when not fully clear near the 600m. Rider H. Richardson (CRAIGLEA ETNA) was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
HUMAN TOUCH – Began awkwardly before shifting in and making heavy contact with YAMUMZA, which became unbalanced.
 
AIRSTRIKE – Began awkwardly before shifting out and making heavy contact with YAMUMZA, which became unbalanced.
 
CRAIGLEA ETNA – Raced wide without cover until the 700m.
 
LITTLE VAIN – Raced wide without cover for the majority.
 
ROTHERO ESSGEE – Rider W. O’Connell pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m. Rider O’Connell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, commencing midnight Saturday, 7 September 2024 and concluding midnight Saturday,14 September 2024. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record, and the totality of his whip use (18).
