GENERAL

Trainer M Currie was fined $500 pursuant to LR68(1) for failing to scratch PROISETTE, SUISSE SCANDAL, CHAMPINSKY by the prescribed time.

HALLSIDE HOT STUFF was declared a late scratching at 9:45am after the gelding was injured when being loaded onto the float. Trainer R Drysdale was advised HALLSIDE HOT STUFF would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

As B Wheeler was injured and R Jamieson was not riding at the meeting for acceptable reasons, riding changes were made as per the Race Day summary sheet.

Race 1: REDMOND’S PET & LIVESTOCK SUPPLIES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M

BARELLO – Jumped out at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide throughout.

SOUTHERN DRAW – Checked at the start and blundered losing significant ground when BARELLO jumped out and ARGUABLE was taken in by GOLD FLOURISH. Raced wide throughout. Near the 700m, improved onto the heels of GOLD FLOURISH and shifted out abruptly taking ARGUABLE wider on the track. Rider L Tilley reported the gelding was inclined to lay out at various stages of the event.

GOLD FLOURISH – Shifted in abruptly at the start. Raced greenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Raced wide throughout.

ARGUABLE – Checked at the start and lost ground when SOUTHERN DRAW was taken out by BARELLO and GOLD FLOURISH jumped in. Taken wider passing the 700m when SOUTHERN DRAW shifted out abruptly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ADDICTIVE PIRANHA – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

PLAY IT AS IT LAYS – Rider T Fenlon could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance.

ALLEZBEC – Passing 1000m raced keenly for a short distance when being restrained. Held up for clear running between the 400m and 250m.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 4.

Race 2: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M

SHAPE OF WATER – Began awkwardly resulting in rider M Wishart becoming unbalanced momentarily in the saddle.

OKCHARLIE – Slow to begin.

POWIAS – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

THE QUEEN OF TIME – Held up between the 400m until entering the home straight. Raced greenly and shifted out significantly under pressure in the home straight.

BEST SAY – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

SUNSHINE DAISEY – Brushed the running rail near the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an injury to the off hind flexor tendon. Trainer P Wallace was advised the mare would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start.

Race 3: FALVEY’S HOTEL GATTON BM70 HANDICAP 1400 M

TOO HARD TO REFUSE – Raced wide without cover throughout. In the presence of RQ apprentice mentor Mr R Fradd, apprentice J Metcalfe was questioned over tactics adopted, particularly in racing three wide on the speed throughout the race. Ms Metcalfe explained her instructions were to lead if possible, however when unable to comply with these instructions she allowed TOO HARD TO REFUSE to stride forward where comfortable. After reviewing the patrol footage Ms Metcalfe agreed she could have made a greater effort to restrain TOO HARD TO REFUSE after being unable to cross CAPTAIN HOOK passing the 1000m to allow the gelding a better opportunity to finish the race off. Bearing in mind her status as an apprentice and relative inexperience Stewards took the matter no further other than to note the circumstances surrounding the matter.

UNCLE RUSS – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running between the 350m and 100m. Rider M Wishart was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out fully to the end of the race.

CAPTAIN HOOK – Raced keenly in the early stages.

JOVITA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

TELEPHONE BOOTH – Momentarily improved onto heels near the 1100m.

GRANNY'S REWARD – Laid in over the concluding stages.

Race 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M

BLAZIN' DE QUO – Raced wide in the early stages of the event.

CHIARO DI LUNA – When asked to comment, rider E Molloy stated the mare was first up after a 5 week let-up and would derive fitness benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery and symptoms of the thumps.

WAYFARER'S WAY – Raced wide from the 700m. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight before being corrected by its rider.

PROCLAIMER – Began very awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and lost ground. Rider M Hellyer reported the gelding was inclined to hang out at various stages of the event.

ROSEFINCH – After becoming fractious in the mounting enclosure, trainer J Edwards was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s pre-race manners. Slow to begin.

KELLISA – Rider M Potgieter was harmlessly dislodged on route to the barriers. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

TWOPOINTFOUR – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

I WANT THAT MAN – Blundered on jumping. Momentarily raced in restricted room passing the 1100m. Over-raced in the middle stages of the event.

LADY LETHAN – Rider G Cartwright was fined $100 under AR227(a) for negligence in that she failed to attach stirrup irons to her saddle when weighing out for this event.

Race 5: BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 860 M

MASTERPLAN – Held up approaching the home turn.

VOULAIT – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

RUSSIAN DIVA – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

AMPHAWA – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Inclined to lay in down the home straight.

I AM THOR – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

ALBION SQUARE – Slow to begin.

Race 6: QUEENSLAND NATIONAL HOTEL LAIDLEY BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1100 M

THIEF BY NIGHT – Tightened for room and had to be checked near the 900m when GAZZA’S DIAMOND laid in and away from ELLE OF A BELLE (L Tilley) which shifted when insufficiently clear. Rider L Tilley was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.

PRINCE OF SOOVIEW – Shifted in shortly after the start taking NEW YORK GIRL inwards.

GAZZA`S DIAMOND - Shifted out shortly after the start and hampered TAPIS MAGIQUE.

TAPIS MAGIQUE – Checked shortly after the start between GAZZA`S DIAMOND which shifted out and NEW YORK GIRL which was taken in by PRINCE OF SOOVIEW.

NEW YORK GIRL – Taken in by PRINCE OF SOOVIEW shortly after the start and hampered TAPIS MAGIQUE.

SUPER QUICK – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

LITTLE SHOW – Jumped out at the start and lost ground.

Race 7: LADBROKES EASY FORM 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1100 M

BOOMI'S BUDDY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

JAFUBOY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

ELECTRIC ARROW – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

LITTLEMISSCANCAN – Slow to begin. Passing the 200m disappointed for a run between PRINCE OF MARAKESH and HE’S A DEVIL before shifting back to the inside a short time later to secure clear running.

SONG SUNG BLUE – Slow to begin.

ROMANTIC THOUGHTS – Rider J Metcalfe dropped her whip near the 150 metres.

EASY COME – Laid in during the early and middle stages of the event. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 8: BOOK YOUR WORK XMAS PARTY AT THE GATTON RACES FRIDAY 20TH DECEMBER RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 HANDICAP 1400 M

UNION SPIRIT – Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

ON THE TIGHTROPE – Crowded on jumping and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed ON THE TIGHT ROPE to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Representative for co-trainers C & C Munce were advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of a satisfactory ECG test prior to trialling and a satisfactory cardiac auscultation following the trial.
