QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORTGATTON TURF CLUBSATURDAY 8TH FEBRUARY 2025WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4, Good 3 after Race 2 RAIL – +1m 900m-400m True remainder OFFICIALSChairman of Stewards – K DalyStewards – A Schofield, T Preston, S Coulthard, L De Witt-Rowson (Cadet) GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweight at today’s meeting:Race 2: CASINO COAST- C Meehan 55.5kg(+1kg) After M Savva was dislodged in the saddling enclosure from BLAME THE BUBBLES in Race 4 and stood down by QAS officers, riding changes were made as per the race day summary sheet. Due to this delay all races were put back one time slot with the last raced to be timed at 3:48pm. M Savva was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to her next race or trial ride. Race 1: AGRICULTURAL REQUIREMENTS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP860 M AMPHAWA – Lost the near fore plate in running. When questioned regarding the poor performance, apprentice L McDonnell stated the horse travelled comfortably in the early stages however was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. EVASIVE NATURE – Stewards accepted the reasons for the late rider declaration on the gelding. Fractious after being loaded into the barriers before being momentarily getting its front leg up, was removed, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and cleared to start. Jumped awkwardly and slow to begin. When questioned jockey A Thompson stated after being obliged to take a forward position, he was of the opinion this had detrimental effect on the gelding’s finishing effort. BEITSOO – Raced wide for the majority without cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off-hind heel bulb. SNEAKY TOO (NZ) – Fractious in the mounting yard prior to start and made heavy contact with the saddling enclosure fence. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Checked shortly after the start. At a subsequent enquiry C Krahnen rider of BEITSO pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that shortly after the start she made insufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting in, resulting in SNEAKY TOO be crowded for room, having to be checked and ALBION SQUARE, which was racing to the inside of SNEAKY TOO being hampered. The license of C Krahnen to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence midnight 9th February to 19th February 2025. Made the home turn awkwardly. Raced wide without cover for the majority. ALBION SQUARE (GB) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. ADDICTIVE PIRANHA – Near the 700m bumped on hindquarters by BUN IN THE OVEN, which when racing in restricted room, shifted out marginally after EVASIVE NATURE improved to its inside. MASSABIELLE – Lost off-fore plate in running. Race 2: PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING & RESPONSE GROUP BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1600 M MIKKI EIGHT – Slow to begin. BY BY BEAN – Dislodged near side winker near the 600m. Leaving the 200m raced in restricted room and had to be steadied between BAVARIAN LADY (L Tilley) and PROPHET OF BOOM (A Thompson) which shifted in after being corrected by its rider. In the circumstances, A Thompson was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances. Approaching the winning post was held up for clear running and went to the line unable to be fully tested by its rider. MAKE HASTE –. Very slow to begin. Forced wider from the 500m. After passing the winning post rider L Tarrant was dislodged, examined by QAS ambulance officers and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements. Prior to leaving the track L Tarrant advised Stewards of minor neck pain. A post-race veterinary examination of MAKE HASTE revealed no abnormalities. QUICK SHOT – Raced three wide without cover. On pulling up the gelding shied, dislodging rider. E Chaves who was examined by QAS officers and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements. A post-race veterinary examination of QUICK SHOT revealed no abnormalities. KASEAR – Checked from heels at the entrance of the home straight. At a subsequent inquiry, L Tilley rider of BAVARIAN LADY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that at the entrance to the home straight he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of KAESAR which had to be checked. The license of L Tilley to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 16th February up until midnight the 27th February 2025. PROPHET OF BOOM – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. HALLSIDE HOT STUFF – When questioned regarding the poor performance app C Krahnen stated her mount failed to travel at any stage of the event and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B Davis was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for a poor performance. Race 3: LOCKYER VALLEY FRESH WHOLESALERS QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1400 M SPIRIT FOX – Bumped at the start. Near the 600m, after improving into a run between ALPINE RAIDER and ZHENG YOU, shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider resulting in ALPINE RAIDER being crowded for room, contacting the running rail and having to be checked. The DARK SIDE which was following was hampered in consequence. Co-Trainer C Geran was advised SPIRIT FOX must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. In arriving in this decision stewards considered SPIRIT FOX’S poor record regarding its racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. THE DARK SIDE – Began awkwardly. Hampered near the 600m and lost ground. ALPINE RAIDER – Slow to begin. Near the 600m, checked and made heavy contact with the running rail. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near foreleg. Trainer P Butterworth indicated to Stewards that it is his intention to now spell ALPINE RAIDER. ZHENG YOU – Jumped out at the start and bumped SPIRIT FOX. Made the turn at the 1200m awkwardly and shifted out. CHERRY LIPS – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Passing the 600m bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be showing signs of being in season. HALLSIDE HOT STUFF – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 4: LOCKYER VALLEY TOYOTA QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 860 M DAY TO REMEMBER – Raced wide throughout. Taken wider rounding the home turn. ROSSO CORSA – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the poor performance jockey D Smith stated after being slow to begin the gelding, which was having its first start, was unable to muster speed despite his urgings and was unable to improve in the race, adding that in his opinion ROSSO CORSA would derive racing experience from today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. BLAME THE BUBBLES – Slow to begin. Fractious in the enclose dislodging rider M Savva who was examined by QAS officers and stood down for the remainder of her commitments. M Savva was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to her next ride. LEFT TURN – Raced wide throughout. SMALL DOSES – Commenced to buck shortly after the start losing ground. Trainer K Sims was advised the filly must trial satisfactorily prior to its next start. WISE CHOICE – Laid out rounding the home turn taking DAY TO REMEMBER wider on the track. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 5: PORTERS PLAINLAND HOTEL LAIDLEY CUP BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1600 M Correct weight was delayed allowing B Andrews rider of 4th placegetter KIPTANUI to view the photo finish image for 3rd. After doing so correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphore numbers. ELLA TE AMA – Slow to begin. Hung in down the home straight and contacted the running rail on a number of occasions when placed under pressure. When questioned regarding the poor performance jockey T Orr stated the mare travelled well to the 500m however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. CENTAUR – Near the 800m when the pace of the race steadied improved onto the heels of NAUGHTY WORDS and had to be restrained. KIPTANUI – Slow to begin. CALM SEEKER (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority. NAUGHTY WORDS – Raced wide throughout the event. HUSSY EMPRESS – Slow to begin. Approaching the winning post laid in under pressure. Race 6: LOCKYER PRODUCE MAIDEN PLATE 1600 M CHEERFUL CAT – Crowded at the start and lost ground. Raced wide from the 700m. MIDNIGHT MADNESS – Slow to begin. Checked from heels passing the 700m TWILIGHT STEPS – Slow to begin. Forced wide near the 600m. DIVAS REIGN – Shifted in abruptly on jumping and crowded CHEERFUL CAT. When asked to comment on the performance L Tilley stated the mare raced flat today and was disappointing when placed under pressure from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Considering the disappointing performance trainer G Cornish advised the mare would now be sent for a spell. THUNDER SHANGHAI – Jumped in at the start. Checked near the 600m. At a subsequent inquiry H Richardson, rider of BAVARIAN LADY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 600m permitted her mount to shift out when not fully clear of THUNDER SHANGHAI which had to be checked. The license of H Richardson’s to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 8th February up to an including midnight the 15th February 2025. In determining penalty stewards took in account a minor contribution from NOBLE VALOUR which was racing to the outside of THUNDER SHANGHAI leading up to this incident. NOBLE VALOUR – Shifted in near the 600m which contributed to the interference suffered to THUNDER SHANGHAI. Apprentice L O’Donnell, rider of NOBLE VALOUR, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. SWIPER – Jumped in at the start. FANCY DIAMOND (NZ) – Checked at the start when THUNDER SHANGHI jumped in. EVERCLEAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Race 7: OFFICIAL AFTERPARTY AT FALVEY'S HOTEL GATTON MAIDEN PLATE 1100 M Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the photo finish image for 2nd place. After doing so correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers. EXECUTE – Shifted in abruptly at the start. Checked approaching the 900m when tightened for room by ANGRY BET, which after being brushed by KOBE ASCOT, shifted in and away from that runner despite the efforts of its rider. Inclined to lay out under pressure near the 150m. CALL OUT – Jumped out at the start. Raced in restricted room between the 900m and 800m. KICKATINALONG – Blundered on jumping. Raced wide with cover throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn taking UPSTART LOVER wider on the track. LETTERS OF ROMANCE – Raced wide throughout. Blundered and put in an awkward stride soon after entering the home straight. PORRISTA (NZ) – Checked at the start between CALL OUT which jumped outwards and EXECUTE which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Raced keenly near the 800m. UPSTART LOVER – Raced wide with cover throughout. Taken wider rounding the home turn. ANGRY BET – Liad in despite the efforts of its rider near the 900m crowding EXECUTE. SHE'S SO SWANK – Began awkwardly. Raced wide with cover throughout.
