Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 2. C. Meehan +1kg

Race 1: GRAND HOTEL BM45 HANDICAP 1000 Metres

TETCHY – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Rider H. Richardson stated that her saddle slipped forward at the start, which placed her at a distinct disadvantage in controlling her mount throughout the race. She added the mare raced keenly in the middle stages and near the 500m when being restrained, shifted out and clipped the heels of GOLD REVOLUTION and blundered, and a short distance later dipped when being restrained. She added that she was unable to ride her mount out for the entire home straight when it hung in, due her saddle having shifted forward.

EPAUVESCENT – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

LORD EDDY – Slow to begin and lost ground.

MY ONE – Raced wide throughout.

OPAQUELY – Slow to begin.

Race 2: MALARGA GRAZING CO COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER OPEN HANDICAP 1000 Metres

JAMESATELLI – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

JANEAN – Laid out and made the home turn wide. When asked to comment on the below market performance, apprentice B. Johnson stated that the mare began fairly however was unable to obtain a forward position as per the normal racing pattern. She added that JANEAN never travelled comfortably at any stage and was off the bit throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormality.

DIGGITY – Slow to begin and lost ground. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m and had to be straightened by the rider over the concluding stages.

HARD LANDING – Jockey M. Butler exceeded the permitted use of the whip prior to the 100m, that being on 8 occasions and after considering the totality of the whip use, was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii).

BOSTON CITY – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: SEINDNER CATTLE CO QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres

CHICK CHICK STICK – Slow to begin and lost ground. Near the 700m steadied from the heels of WEBBAR. Apprentice J. Busuttin reported that her mount struggled to get around the tighter track from the middle stages and did not appreciate today’s firmer track conditions.

FLAWLESS AMBITION – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

FREE CHOICE – Bumped at the start.

JUST BINGO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

REAL STORY – When asked to comment on the below market performance, apprentice B. Johnson stated that the gelding never travelled comfortably throughout, wanted to hang out approaching the home turn and was disappointing in its performance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormality.

SHEZABLAST – Shifted out and made the home turn wide.

Race 4: GORDON FAMILY HOLDINGS BURNETT TO THE BEACH SERIES – HEAT – BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 Metres

SEA COMMITS – Raced wide in the early stages.

YULE MY HERO – Steadied from heels near the 900m. Apprentice J. Busuttin reported the gelding never travelled comfortably and was under pressure for the entire race.

KUZCO LAD – Jumped awkwardly.

I’M FAMOUS – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer G. Parker stated that he was not disappointed with the recent run at Eidsvold on 5 October 2024, when the gelding finished the race off well. He added that he had only been training I’M FAMOUS for a short time and that a change in farrier work and a recent change of environment from stabling to paddock agistment had seen an improvement in the gelding’s work, adding that today’s shorter distance and being able to lead had contributed to the performance.

Race 5: BURNETT AG SUPPLIES BM65 HANDICAP 1400 Metres

Stewards questioned trainer D. Johnston regarding the nomination, acceptance and scratching of YOUNG HENRY in this race. Mr Johnston stated that he nominated the gelding originally before nominations were extended and then accepted with the intention of running. He added after acceptances, the owners had discussed the racing program of the horse with him and that a decision had then been made to scratch today and to nominate and race over a more suitable distance of 1560m at Mackay on 17 October 2024. Stewards noted the explanation.

Stewards questioned trainer T. Thomas regarding the nomination, acceptance and scratching of WAR TO ALL in this race. Mr Thomas stated that he had nominated the mare originally before nominations were extended and then accepted with a rider, with the intention of running. He added that he reconsidered WAR TO ALL’ position in the field after having won at Eidsvold on 5 October 2024, and the logistics of having runners at both Eagle Farm and Gayndah today, in preference to scratching today and running WAR TO ALL in the Wondai Cup on Saturday 19 October 2024. Stewards noted the explanation.

INVAHIR – Stewards questioned apprentice N. Palasthy regarding her riding approaching and rounding the home turn, where she shifted ground away from the inside rail which presented a run to the eventual winner GRAND DE LARGO. On reviewing the Stewards footage, Ms Palasthy stated that she had erred by pressuring her mount approaching the home turn, which put her mount off balance and shifting wider on the track. She added that her mount was inclined to shift out under pressure in the home straight. Stewards in considering the matter, agreed with apprentice N. Palasthy, that it would have been better for her to have balanced her mount approaching the home turn to enable her greater opportunity to hold her position on the track rounding the home turn before then placing her mount under pressure. Stewards further advised that in the home straight, Ms Palasthy would be required to stop pressuring her mounts and straighten when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Stewards in considering this matter, noted that apprentice Palasthy had just recently commenced race riding, her relevant experience and that she intends to review all of today’s rides with Mr Damian Browne, took the matter no further.

CENTAUR – Obliged to shift wider on the track in the home straight when INVAHIR shifted out under pressure.

GRAND DE LAGO – Improved onto the heels of CENTAUR near the 900m and was steadied.
