QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT AQUIS PARK GOLD COAST POLY PROVINCIAL SATURDAY 28 JANUARY 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Synthetic RAIL – True Entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R HitchenerStewards – P Zimmermann, S Heidke, D McMahon, J CreminClerk of Scales – P ReardonJudge – S McMahon, G Anderson, S MallyonVeterinarian – Dr G CavanaughSwab Attendants – K Kilpatrick, L BobeszkoStarter – K Watson GENERAL As Jockey L Dittman and Apprentice M Castle were not riding at today’s meeting due to personal reasons, riding replacements were made as per the Steward’s summary. Race 1: THE OFFICE CHICKS QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1050 metres The start was delayed to allow for the broadcast of an interstate event. ERRONEOUS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. I’M PINKER – When asked to comment on the performance of the filly, jockey J Stanley reported that the filly raced keenly in the early and middle stages and when placed under pressure in the home straight, failed to respond to his riding, which in his opinion could be attributed to it not handling the synthetic racing surface. MISHANI METALLIC – Arrived late on course due to transportation difficulties and underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. GOLD 'N' GLAMOROUS – Slow into stride. TENGUN READY – Jockey R Wiggins was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m. Race 2: SALTY BARNACLES OPEN Handicap 1200 metres BOLD WARRIOR – Raced wide in the early stages. DARING BELLE – Began awkwardly. Race 3: CONTOUR CONSULTING ENGINEERS QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metre BETTERDEEL – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance of the filly, jockey J Stanley reported that the filly travelled well during the early and middle stages, however, was reluctant to race through the kickback from the 500m and as a result ran on only fairly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have been galloped on the offside foreleg and to be coughing, however no other abnormalities were detected. PRIMED FOR VICTORY – Jockey R Wiggins was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. WOWIT'S WILLYWONKA – Apprentice Y Lewis was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m. MONTANA LADY – Raced wide in the early stages. Jockey N Tomizawa was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.THE MISSIONARY – Began awkwardly and was then bumped heavily shortly after the start. Race 4: UPLAND CONSTRUCTIONS BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 2000 metres Prior to the declaration of correct weight, D Groves, the trainer of the second placed ELIZANO reviewed the patrol footage to determine if he should lodge a protest in relation to the whip use of Apprentice J Molloy, the rider of the first placed RAGING POLE. Having reviewed the footage, taking into consideration the long neck margin between the runners at the conclusion of the event, Mr Groves decided not to proceed with the objection. ELIZANO – Near the 1300m, whilst over racing, improved to a position inside the heels of SPURIOUS and as a result became awkward for a number of strides. RAGING POLE – Apprentice J Molloy had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of 7 days pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m. The period of suspension to commence midnight the 4th of February and to conclude midnight the 11th of February. SPIRIT'S CHARM – Bumped on jumping. As a result of racing keenly in the early stages, was shifted wider on the track by its rider exiting the home straight on the first occasion and was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1000m. SPURIOUS – Near the 1300m, was momentarily forced wider on the track by another runner. WINSTON BLUE – Bumped on jumping. Race 5: WILCLEAN Maiden Plate 1540 metres Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards considered an objection lodged by jockey Sean Cormack the rider of the second placed LADY CHARTWELL against CAPITEEL (J Guthmann-Chester) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the stewards patrol footage, found that near the 200m, CAPITEEL shifted in resulting in LADY CHARTWELL being taken off its running line. Stewards however were of the view that this incident was minor in nature and bearing in mind how both runners finished the race off over the final 150m, they could not be satisfied that had this incident not occurred that LADY CHARTWELL would have finished ahead of CAPITEEL at the conclusion of the event and therefore the objection was dismissed, and correct weight given on the judges semaphored numbers. DEVINE FALLS – Raced extremely wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain the leading position near the 900m. IN CLOSE REACH – Raced extremely wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a forward position one off the fence near the 900m. CAPITEEL – Began awkwardly. The period of suspension to commence midnight the 11th of February, the expiration of a suspension incurred in an earlier event and to conclude midnight the 18th of February. IS THAT YOU ETHEL – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey G Cartwright reported that the mare never travelled throughout and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant findings. Following the mares disappointing performance, Trainer S Morrissey would report back to stewards in the following days should something come to light regarding its disappointing performance. LADY CHARTWELL – Raced wide without cover for the majority. TANTALUM – Slow to begin. Race 6: GLOBAL TURF BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1100 metres YOUR TOO GOOD – Shifted its off-hind plate in running. Trainer A Campton was advised that the gelding would now incur a 3 month ban from racing and would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of stewards prior to next racing. Race 7: MARTIN COLLINS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap1900 metres TAREX (NZ) – Jockey D Peisley could offer no tangible explanation for the below market expectation performance. ROARING THUNDER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding, which was retired from the event near the 600m, to have bled from both nostrils. As this was the second occasion in which the gelding had bled, it would now incur a life ban from racing. VANTASTIC – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
