GLAMOUR AND GLORY – When asked to comment on the performance of the mare, jockey P Hammersley reported that due to the fast early tempo, after beginning only reasonably the mare settled further back than he had anticipated. Jockey Hammersley added that as a result of this the mare was very reluctant to stretch out through the kick back and as a consequence, trailed the field throughout the event. RANGI TOA (NZ) – On returning to scale, apprentice B Wheeler reported that given the manner on which the track was racing, in that it advantaged leaders, he rode his mount aggressively in the early stages in an attempt to lead the event, however as a result of being caught wide, he restrained to a position with cover approaching the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. TIMELY SHADOW – Began very awkwardly, losing considerable ground. Trainer J Pengelly was advised that the mare would require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing. Race 6: THE KIRK'S QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metres Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards considered an objection lodged by jockey N Thomas the rider of the second placed POWERALONG against EARLSTON (A Spinks) being declared the winner, alleging interference at the 450m. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the stewards patrol footage, found that near the 450m, EARLSTON shifted out and bumped POWERALONG resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced. Stewards however were of the view that this incident was minor in nature and bearing in mind how both runners finished the race off over the final 4000m, they could not be satisfied that had this incident not occurred that POWERALONG would have finished ahead of EARLSTON at the conclusion of the event and therefore the objection was dismissed, and correct weight given on the judges semaphored numbers. IRRIGATOR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DEEP MILLIONS – Bumped heavily on jumping. Tightened for room and eased near the 700m. GOLD FLASH – Bumped heavily on jumping. Near the 700m, checked to avoid the heels of IRRIGATOR which shifted in when insufficiently clear. At a subsequent inquiry jockey M Wishart pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that as the rider of IRRIGATOR, she permitted her mount to shit in when insufficiently clear of VERALISE, resulting in that runner, DEEP MILLIONS and COCO JEWEL, which were both racing to the inside, being tightened for room to varying degrees, resulting in VERALISE being checked and DEEP MILLIONS and COCO JEWEL being eased. Jockey M Wishart’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight the 10/3/23 and to expire midnight the 18/3/23.
