QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GOLD COAST TURF CLUB AQUIS PARK – SATURDAY 20 MAY 202 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Synthetic RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R HitchenerStewards – K Daly, P Reardon, D McMahonClerk of Scales – S HeidkeJudge – S McMahon, S MallyonVeterinarian – Dr N GaskellSwab Attendants – K KilpatrickStarter – K Watson SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT From Aquis Beaudesert Saturday May 6th 2023, Race 6 Fillies & Mares Benchmark 62 Hdcp: Stewards today continued an adjourned inquiry into the circumstances surrounding apprentice Dan McGillivray, rider of DREAM ENTITY, being dislodged from that horse after clipping the heels of TOP BIRD (J Murphy) at the entrance to the home straight. On the day of the incident Stewards took initial evidence from all riders in the event apart from D McGillivray who had been transported to hospital for further treatment. After hearing submissions from D McGillivray and J Murphy, rider of TOP BIRD, Stewards found that passing the 400m DREAM ENTITY, when travelling strongly into the race, improved into a narrow run to the outside of TOP BIRD and to the inside of MARTINI DANCER (L Tilley) and IN THE BLINK (N Callow). As a result, a short distance later MARTINI DANCER bumped IN THE BLINK on the hindquarters resulting in DREAM ENTITY, MARTINI DANCER and IN THE BLINK all racing tightly approaching the home turn. Soon after, near the 200m at the entrance to the home straight, TOP BIRD when weakening laid out despite the efforts of rider J Murphy, which resulted in DREAM ENTITY being taken out clipping the heels of TOP BIRD and rider D McGillivray being dislodged. MARTINI DANCER, which was racing to the outside of DREAM ENTITY was checked in consequence. After considering all evidence tendered and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found no rider at fault and that the cause of the incident was the racing manners of TOP BIRD hanging out at that point of the race. Ms S Batten, trainer of TOP BIRD, was advised the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. In respect to his movement passing the 400m which resulted in MARTINI DANCER and IN THE BLINK coming together and bumping, apprentice D McGillivray was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. GENERAL Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting- Race 3 – SILK SASH – Chris Meehan +1kgRace 5 – LAGO DI BRAIES – Chris Meehan +1kgRace 5 – RENAULT – Todd Banks +1kg As jockey P Hammersley was injured and not riding at today’s meeting, he was replaced as per the Stewards summary. Race 1:CANADIAN CLUB BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1900 metres MADAME MO – Bumped on jumping. EASIER SAID – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with another runner. ZOOMURUDI – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Hung in from the 500m. SOKUDO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice J Williams was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m. Race 2: CASCADE BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1050 metres THE RATTLESNAKE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. WIN BURN – Slow to begin. KISEKI MAN – Having not raced in over 12months, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout. UNLIKELYOCCURRENCE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. SONNY – Near the 900m, was steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of KISEKI MAN which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey C Robertson the rider of KISEKI MAN was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Race 3: MOUNT FRANKLIN Maiden Handicap 1200 metres VIRGO VISION – At the request of the stable representative, the gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arrival at the course and was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout. Jockey R Wiggins reported that the gelding, which was first up from a spell today, peaked on its run near the 200m and in his opinion would derive a significant fitness benefit from today’s event. KING KRYPTOS – Raced wide throughout. PRONTO VINCENTO – Raced wide throughout. ONE IN ALL – Having not raced in over 12months, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. PAINFUL (NZ) – Hampered at the start. HEARTONHERSLEEVE – Began awkwardly and shifted in. LOVE LOCH – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m. MY LAWLESS LADY – Raced wide throughout. TIKITIBOO – Bumped shortly after the start and lost some ground. Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels near the 250m. SILK SASH – Disappointed for a run and was steadied near the 150m and then had some difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the event. Race 4: 4 JIM BEAM AQUIS QTIS 3YO SPRINT SERIES - BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1100 metres MISHANI WARFARE – Bumped heavily on jumping. On returning to scale, apprentice S Callow reported that the gelding hung out throughout the event. SHAQUILA – Severally tightened for room and checked on jumping. Held up rounding the home turn. TARPS – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained to a position with cover in the middle stages and as a result shifted out. WHISTLING SPIRIT – Began very awkwardly and shifted out, contacting another runner and as a result lost ground. Race 5: MOUNT FRANKLIN LIGHTLY SPARKLING Class 1 Handicap 1540 metres LAGO DI BRAIES (NZ) – Slow to begin. Jockey C Meehan was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. MASTER OF MENACE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and then failed to muster early speed. SUMMER STAR – Trainer J Edwards advised that it is the intention for the gelding to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Jockey A Spinks was fined $400 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. Race 6: MAKERS MARK Maiden Handicap 1540 metres ARCTIC DASHER – Slow into stride. KURABENII – Apprentice J Williams explained that the gelding had peaked on its run at the 150m and for that reason he desisted from riding the gelding out for the remainder of the event. Stewards noted apprentice Williams’ explanation, however advised him of their expectation of him to ride his mounts out in a minimum of a hands and heels fashion whilst still in prizemoney contention. LICENCE TO THRILL – After obtaining a laceration to its head whilst being transported to the track, was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 11:56am. Trainer P Duff was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing. REG 'N' KATH – Slow into stride. TORQUE ESPAGNA – Raced wide throughout. Race 7: COCA COLA Class 1 Plate 1200 metres STREET FIGHTER – Jockey J Guthmann-Chester was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. ASTERN MAGIC – Raced wide throughout. Jockey M Cahill was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m. INSTANT RESPONSE – Raced wide throughout. LOST MEDIA – Held up for a considerable distance passing the 600m. Rounding the home turn was steadied to avoid the heels of PAGATO which shifted out. Apprentice J Williams the rider of PAGATO was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. PLAINTIFF'S FRIEND – Slow to begin. SIAN STAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. CUDDLES – Raced wide throughout. ZATARA – Near the 450m, was steadied to avoid the heels of LOST MEDIA which shifted in whilst being held up for clear running. Jockey C Robertson the rider of LOST MEDIA was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
