Steward)Judge – S McMahon, S MallyonVeterinarian – Dr G Silvestri Swab Attendants – L Bobezsko Starter – S Marr SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Brisbane Racing Club 21st June 2023 Race 7 Class 6 HandicapTrainers’ representative for C Waller, M B Killion, advised that SIR LA MER had recovered well in the days following the event with a small amount of fluid on the inside of the near fore cannon consistent with having struck itself during the run. Mr Killion noted that the horse would be continuing with its preparation. GENERAL Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:Race 2: MAROON MAGIC – M Cahill 55kgs (+0.5kg)Race 7: TWOSEY – C Robertson 55.5kg(+0.5kg) Race 1: Pam Bayles QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1100 metres EASTOWN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. LEEANNIE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Race 2: Remembering John & Barbara Gilbert QTIS Three-Year-OldBENCHMARK 60 Ha 1200 metres FLYING RUPERT – Passing the 800m improved onto the heels of MAROON MAGIC, shifted out before racing wide from that point onwards. JUST GETS BETTER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the 2nd occasion. As this was the second such bleeding attack, under the provisions of AR79(6) trainer S Kendrick was advised that gelding would now incur a lifetime ban from racing in Australia. TOW THE LINE – Unable to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider. Held up for clear running from the 250m until near the 100m before shifting wider on the track to improve. Approaching the finish line was disappointed for a run between MAROON MAGIC which marginally laid in under pressure and LES GIRLS which after initially laying in under pressure, shifted out when being corrected by its rider. When asked to comment on tactics adopted rider R Wiggins stated that the horse was unable to muster speed in the early stages and when pressured in the home straight, TOW THE LINE responded only fairly. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. LE WEASEL – Began awkwardly.When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance Trainer D Hansen advised that the horse races best when leading in its races and today, after able to find the front, travelled comfortably in the lead, adding that he was not overly surprised by the performance when LE WEASEL was able to find the front. Stewards noted the explanation. MAROON MAGIC – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid out in the early stages of the home straight. Approaching the finish line laid in under pressure. LES GIRLS – Approaching the finish line laid in under pressure before shifting out when corrected by its rider. Race 3: Gold Coast Tavern Maiden Handicap 1050 metres MISS BOMBSHELL – Fractious leaving the encloser resulting in rider B Wheeler having to be mounted on the course proper. Laid in under pressure passing the 100m. Stewards advised stable representative for Trainer A Neasham that a warning would be placed on the mares’ pre-race manners. MY MISS MOONPIE – Just prior to the start being affect dropped its head and then reared losing significant ground and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer D Bougoure was advised MY MISS MOONPIE must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to its next race start. MUSSEL LINES – Slow to muster speed in the early stages of the event. Race 4: Fig and Frankies Kitchen and Bar Maiden Handicap 1540 metres BRING THE CHAMPERS – Raced wide for the majority. SOMBANI – Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Trainer V Heading was advised that SOMBANI would be restricted to racing at non-TAB venues until the horse establishes form at country venues. DARABAZ – Leaving the 1100m, after being crossed by BOSTON OF TUFFY, had to be checked from that runners’ heels when the pace of the race eased significantly. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice B Wheeler was fined $300 under AR 131(d) for excessively slowing the momentum of BOSTON OF TUFFY which resulted in DARABAZ having to be checked from that runners’ heels. In assessing penalty Stewards considered apprentice Wheeler’s recent record under this rule. TIKITIBOO – Approaching the 1400m after being crossed by IN CLOSE REACH raced keenly. A short distance later was obliged to momentarily be steadied from the heels of DARABAZ which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Race 5: Gold Coast Hospital Foundation Class 1 Handicap 1540 metres LUZ LONG was declared a late scratching at 2.34pm after undergoing a pre-race veterinary examination prior to being saddled and found to be lame in the near foreleg.On the announcement of correct weight all moneys invested on LUZ LONG were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all winning bets prior to 2.34pm 1st SHOTGUN DIVA - 6 cents 11 cents2nd POET’S DAY 6 cents3rd MAGIC MIKEY 9 cents Trainer K Hickmott was advised that LUZ LONG would require a veterinary clearance, inclusive of results of a satisfactory ultrasound of the near fore tendon prior to next racing. Stewards further added that LUZ LONG would be required to trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing next. Trainer K Hickmott advised Stewards that the gelding would now be leaving his stable. MAGIC MIKEY (NZ) – Crowded at the start and lost ground when RUN RAMPANT shifted out. SHOTGUN DIVA – Laid in shortly after the start. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance Trainer A Plumb advised that today was the horse first start on the synthetic racing surface adding that prior to SHOTGUNS DIVA’s most recent start at Grafton on the 10th of June 2023 there was a 6-week space between runs and that the horse derived fitness benefit from that run leading into today’s event. Jockey M Wishart, rider of SHOTGUN DIVA, was fined $400 under 132(7)(ii) for use of the whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m, four more than permitted. HELL OF A PRINCE – Raced wide for the majority.Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight and approaching the 150m raced in restricted room to the inside of ROCKIN’ ARTIE and MAGIC MIKEY which was inclined to lay in under pressure. BARTALUMBA – Bumped at the start. Crowded shortly after the start when SHOGUN DIVA laid in. Apprentice M Philpot reported to Stewards that her mount laid out throughout the event. RUN RAMPANT – Jumpedout at the start. Race 6: VerseSeal Waterproofing Coatings BENCHMARK 58Handicap 1900 metres ZOOMURUDI – Momentarily held up for clear running at the entrance of the home straight before a short distance later obliged to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running. KISS MY MILLO – Slow to begin. When asked to comment rider J Guthmann-Chester could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than this was the horses first start on a synthetic track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Stewards advised Trainer Angela Plumb that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to its next race. NO MORE RED – When asked to comment on tactics adopted particularly in the middle stages of the race when the pace was eased, Apprentice B Wheeler stated that after steadying the speed near the 1000m, NO MORE RED was unable to quicken when DAMIANI improved quickly around the field to lead from the 800m. He added that in hindsight he had erred in respect to the degree he steadied the pace of the race, and the horse would have been be better served being allowed to stride more comfortably in the middle stages. Stewards noted the explanation of B Wheeler. TEA LEAVES – Bumped at the start. DAMIANI – Near the 1000m when the pace of the race was steady left a one wide trailing position and progressed forward to lead the event from the 800m. PATTI WAGGIN – Jumped in at the start and bumped TEA LEAVES. Raced keenly in the middle stages when racing in the position outside the leader. FEUDALIST – From the wide barrier was restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position with cover. Raced wide from the 900m. TORQUE ESPAGNA – Began awkwardly shifted out and lost ground. Race 7: Resource Super Class 1 Handicap 1050 metres COBURG – Cast off fore plate in running. PRONTO VINCENTO – Held up rounding the home turn. GOOD'N'LUCKY – Near the 900m steadied to avoid the heels of COBURG was shifted in. Rider N Callow was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Rider B Thornton reported his mount hung out for the majority of the event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer B Costello was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to its next race or trial start. RUSSIAN PINS – Passing the 200m laid in obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten. Apprentice D McGillivray, rider of RUSSIAN PINS, was reprimanded under 132(7)(ii) for use of the whip six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. GOOD GIRL – Raced wide throughout. TWOSEY – Laid in shortly after the start and did so until passing the 800m. Near the 400m raced in restricted room to the inside of GOOD GIRL. CUDDLES – Tightened shortly after the start when GET WHAT YOU GIVE was taken in by TWOSEY. GET WHAT YOU GIVE – A short distance after the start had to be checked from the heels of TWOSEY which laid in despite efforts of its rider.
