BenchMark 60 Handicap 1100 metres

CONNELLY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout. Laid in marginally rounding the home turn.

KINTAMANI – Approaching the 900m, momentarily steadied from the heels of READY TO TORQUE which was racing forward. Apprentice E. Lang the rider of READY TO TORQUE was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Laid in slightly rounding the home turn before being brushed on several occasions by ELLIEZ STAR and being turned in.

TOW THE LINE – Near the 300m, when racing in restricted room, was tightened and as a consequence lost its rightful running. Stewards after inquiring into this incident noted that in the early part of the home straight, ELLIEZ STAR (C. Waddell) improved into a narrow run between TOW THE LINE (B. Wheeler) and KINTAMANI (M. Cahill). Wider on the course, CONNELLY (N. Callow) which was improving four-wide also laid in marginally. Shortly thereafter, KINTAMANI rolled in slightly before brushing with ELLIEZ STAR on several occasions resulting in that runner being taken in causing TOW THE LINE to race in restricted room and ultimately lose its position. Stewards when assessing this incident and considering the evidence, could not attribute sufficient blame to any riders and noted the incident.

Race 7: Corporate Events at GCTC BenchMark 58 Handicap 1540 metres

PERNELL – Began awkwardly. Held up and unable to improve between the 550m and the 400m. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the presence of trainer J. Bellamy, in particular Apprentice J. Williams’ decision to allow his mount to shift down to a position on the rails near the 1300m. Apprentice J. Williams stated that from today’s wide barrier and being mindful of the weight the gelding had to carry in today’s event, he elected to shift to a rails position rather than being caught wide in the event. Trainer J. Bellamy issued no instructions to the apprentice and thought today’s ride was consistent with its most recent start. Stewards noted the comments.
