QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GOLD COAST TURF CLUB AQUIS PARK GOLD COAST POLY– SATURDAY 19th AUGUST 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Synthetic RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – K DalyStewards – S Fletcher, S Heidke, P Reardon (Asst Steward)Clerk of Scales – S ByattJudge – S McMahonVeterinarian – N GaskellSwab Attendants – K KilpatrickStarter – S Andrews, D Jones SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT From Aquis Beaudesert Saturday 12th August 2023: Stewards today considered an application from Trainer P Kimmet to review the imposition of a monetary penalty issued under LR67(1) in relation to a late rider declaration for the horse DARABAZ in Race 7 at the above meeting. After hearing submissions from Mr Kimmet, and noting mitigating circumstances, Stewards varied the penalty from a $100 fine to a reprimand. GENERAL Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:Race 2: MOVE BEYOND – C Taylor 54.5kgs (+0.5kg)Race 5: MIGHTY GANGES – C Taylor 54.5kgs (+0.5kg) As D Peisley was not riding for personal reasons, riding replacements were made as per the race day summary. Race 1: GC INDUSTRY AWARDS AUG 31ST MAIDEN PLATE 1900M I'M A RULER – Held up leaving the 150m until approaching the 100m. Apprentice J. Williams was questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted particularly near the 1300m where he restrained to allow IN CLOSE REWACH to cross to the lead. J. Williams stated that his instructions were either to lead or sit outside the leader, adding that after being pressured by IN CLOSE REACH leaving the 1600m, he elected to restrain at that point. Trainer P. Robl confirmed the instructions issued and expressed disappointment in the actions of apprentice Williams in not maintaining the lead in the early stages. Stewards in considering all the evidence, advised apprentice J. Williams that he had erred in not holding his leading position near 1300m, however in considering his relative inexperience were of the opinion that his actions on this occasion did not reach the requisite standard to issue a charge under the Rules of Racing. A post-race veterinary examination of I’M A RULER did not reveal any abnormalities. REVE AMERICAIN – Jumped awkwardly. THE WELLIAN – Slow to begin. Left a rearward trailing position near the 800m, progressed forward and raced wide from that point. SISTINE CHAPEL – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages until being restrained to obtain cover near the 1200m. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m. Race 2: HOPSCOTCH DIGITAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1540M BLUSHING LUCAS – Bumped at the start. CAPITEEL – Slow and then bumped at the start. PATTI WAGGIN – Apprentice J. Williams was fined $300 under the provisions of AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, which is one more than permitted. KALPANA – Jumped awkwardly and made contact with the barrier gate. Approaching the 100m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MAC MONTY which shifted in under riding. Rider R. Jamieson the rider of MAC MONTY was reprimanded under AR 131(a) for careless riding. VANCITY – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider W. D’Avila was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, which is one more than permitted. SECRET QUALITY – Raced wide until leaving the 1200m. MOVE BEYOND – Jumped in and bumped BLUSHING LUCAS and then shifted out and bumped CAPITEEL. Race 3: WYNDHAM MAIDEN PLATE 1050M DOMINANCE – Laid out rounding the home turn taking ASTELENA wider on the track. HARD FEED – Rider A. Allen reported that his mount made an abnormal noise and pulled up quickly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. SHAWDE – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. UPLOADS – Slow to begin and then slow to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of the rider. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight until passing the 200m. ASTELENA – Raced wide throughout. Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn. Race 4: SKYPOINT RACE TO THE TOP QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M BETTER THAN LOVE – Slow to begin. WEEKEND ARTIST – Jumped out at the start. DANCE BABE – Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the performance, rider T. Brooker stated she was instructed to ride the filly where comfortable in a midfield position. She added that DANCE BABE did not appreciate the synthetic kickback and never travelled comfortably at any stage of the race. Co-trainer R. Tyrell advised that the filly had two trials leading into today’s race and also expressed his disappointment in today’s performance, adding that it would now be the intention of the stable to add blinkers to the filly going forward. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stewards noted the explanation of both T Brooker and R Tyrell. SNAG DA BEANS – Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Rider A. Spinks reported his mount laid in for a majority of the race. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 5: OAKS HOTELS CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200M ARTIE BEATSOME – Bumped near the 400m and became unbalanced. QUIET MICHAEL – Passing 400m improved into a narrow between ELLIEZ STAR and ARTIE BEATSOME and in doing so bumped the hind quarters ARTIE BEATSOME resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced for a short distance. DEVINE FALLS – After being fractious in the tie-up stalls, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Jumped in at the start and bumped JIMMY NEUTRON and then shifted out and inconvenienced MIGHTY GANGES. ELLIEZ STAR – After kicking the enclosure rail moving onto the track, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Approaching the 200m disappointed for a run to the inside of CLOVERS PRINCE before being steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running. MIGHTY GANGES – After beginning awkwardly was bumped. Race 6: VILLAGE ROADSHOW THEME PARKS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1540M JOHNNY UTAH – Over raced at the heels of PAINFUL near the 1200m, shifted out and momentarily bumped SAXON BRAVE and then continued to over race for a short distance thereafter. When asked to comment on the performance, rider C. Robertson stated the gelding travelled comfortably in the run, however when asked to improve from the 400m, failed to respond to his riding adding that in his opinion JOHHNY UTAH would be better suited in races over shorter distances than that of today. SAXON BRAVE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Bumped near the 1200m. When asked to comment on the performance, rider N. Callow stated the gelding was not suited when forced to race wide without cover in the early stages and that SAXON BRAVE races best when ridden with cover and help up for one run. Stewards noted the explanation. FURTHERING – Bumped with SHE’S SO GOOD on jumping away. Near the 900m when racing keenly, was steadied when crowded for room when SAXON BRAVE shifted in momentarily. N. Callow, rider SAXON BRAVE, was reprimanded under AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident. CATCH CRIES – After being fractious in the gates was slow to begin. BOOG'S BOY – Slow to begin. SHE'S SOO GOOD – Bumped with FURTHERING on jumping away. Race 7: SEA WORLD CRUISES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1900M POET'S DAY – Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, commenced to over race when being restrained when racing in a three wide position, continued to over race until a point near the 800m. Rounding the home turn, laid in and had to be steadied from the heels of NICE WATER. Rider C. Robertson reported that his mount failed to settle in the early and middle stages which he felt had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s finishing effort. He added that that in his opinion POET’S DAY would be suited by a drop back in distance. BLUE SWIMMER – Bumped at the start. MOUNT ZION – Slow to begin. NICE WATER – Lost the near hind plate in running. RUGGED WOMAN – After being slow to begin, shifted in and bumped the hind quarters of BLUE SWIMMER. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice J. Williams stated that he was instructed to race in a forward position, however he was unable to comply with these instructions and as a result settled back further than anticipated. CLEARY ADONIS – Slow to begin. Race 8: CON-X-ION BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1050M Correct weight was delayed allowing apprentice J. Williams, rider of DASHING GEE GEE, and Stewards to view the patrol footage of the start of this race. After doing so J. Williams elected not to take the matter any further and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placing’s. DASHING GEE GEE – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice J. Williams, rider of DASHING GEE GEE, was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. I AM VOODOO – Blundered at the start. ALL STARS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SPIRIT PRINCESS – Began awkwardly, shifted out and lost significant ground. Raced wide from the 800m.
