QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GOLD COAST TURF CLUB AQUIS PARK GOLD COAST – SATURDAY 16th SEPTEMBER 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Synthetic RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – K. Borg (cadet)Clerk of Scales – B ConnellJudge – S McMahon, S MallyonVeterinarian – Dr S CoglanSwab Attendants – K KilpatrickStarter – S Andrews GENERAL Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:Race 4: BEACHSIDE BABE – K Zechner 54kg (+1kg) Race 1: AMALGAMATED GROUP MAIDEN PLATE 1900 M DOUBLE QUICK – When over racing in the early stages made the 1400m crossing awkwardly. LICENCE TO THRILL – Raced keenly in the early stages before obtaining cover near the 1000m. SUDDEN SUSPECT – Raced wide in the early stages until progressing forward and obtaining a position outside the lead near the 1000m. Jockey C. Eaton was reprimanded under the provision of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted. MISHANI SUPREME – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start, dropped itshead as the start was effected and lost ground. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $300 under the provision of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. SAXON BRAVE – Jockey N. Tomizawa was reprimanded under the provision of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. Race 2: K2 LAW CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1900 M GREEN ESSENCE was declared a late scratching by stewards at 1.59pm acting on veterinary advice when the gelding was found to be lame in both forelegs. On the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered the following deductions to apply: 1st TROPIC SANDS – 5c win bets, 7c place bets2nd TIRITINI – 3c place bets3rd VICTORY BEANS – 8c place bets Trainer J. Bellamy was advised that GREEN ESSENCE would require a veterinary clearance before racing again. TIRITIRI – Notification of change of tactics, with the gelding to race in a handy position. Tightened for room at the start and checked between MYSTERIOUS LADY and PATTI WAGGON which jumped out, and as a result settled in a rearward position. THE WELLIAN – Crowded for room at the start and lost ground. Hampered, was taken in and had to be checked from the heels of CHAYSE ’N’ STORMS approaching the winning post on the first occasion. At a subsequent inquiry C. Robertson, rider of TROPIC SANDS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that approaching the winning post on the first occasion he made insufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting in, resulting in CHASE ’N’ STORMS being taken in and across THE WELLLIAN which had to be checked. VICTORY BEANS, which was racing to the inside of THE WELLIAN, was obliged to steady as a consequence. The licence of C. Robertson to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence midnight 16/9/23 up to and including midnight 26/9/2023. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild abrasions to the near hind fetlock, consistent with having been galloped on. TROPIC SANDS – Jumped in at the start. Laid out passing the 150m before being corrected by its rider. PATTI WAGGIN – Jumped out at the start. VICTORY BEANS - Crowded for room at the start and lost ground. Steadied approaching the winning post on the first occasion. Raced wide in the early and middle stages until being permitted to progress forward and obtain a position outside the leader near the 1000m. CHAYSE 'N' STORMS – Crowded for room at the start and lost ground. MYSTERIOUS LADY – Crowded for room at the start and lost ground. Race 3: SIMMONS LIVINGSTONE & ASSOCIATES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1540M AVENUE OF STARS – Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward and obtain the lead near the 1200m. After being struck with the whip, shifted in abruptly near the 150m and struck the running rail, becoming awkward and resulting in rider E Lang becoming unbalanced. PERNELL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. THE CARPENTER – Jockey N. Callow stated that he placed his mount under pressure from the 800m, however it failed to respond to his riding, adding that the horse felt awkward in its action, and for this reason he elected to ease THE CARPENTER out of the race from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer T. Hall was advised THE CARPENTER would require a veterinary clearance before racing again. GREAT AMBITION – Jockey N. Tomizawa was reminded of his obligations under AR132(6)(c) regarding use of the whip on horses that are out of contention. STEP ON FIRE – On arrival at the barriers the saddled on the horse was readjusted. KAIQUE – Race wide in the early and middle stages. Race 4: QUINN FAMILY LAW MAIDEN PLATE 1100M DOMINANCE – Began awkwardly.FULL SCREEN – Slow to begin. Passing the 400m, was disappointed for a run between UPTOWN LUCY and CAPITAL EYES which shifted in marginally before being corrected by its rider. FULL SCREEN was then obliged to shift back to the inside to obtain clear running. CAPITAL EYES – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 100m was hampered and had to be steadied when DOMINANCE improved to the inside of I AM AMAZES which laid in marginally. EYE WANTED – Raced wide throughout. I AM AMAZES – Stumbled at the start. STAR OF ROBIGLEN – Upon arrival at the barriers was required to be re-saddled. Laid out from the 700m until the entrance to the home straight. BEACHSIDE BABE – Jockey K. Zechner was fined $400 under the provision of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, four more than permitted. SEIRYU – Jockey T. Brooker reported at scale that SEIRYU resented the sand kick back resulting in the mare laying out at various stages of the race. Raced wide throughout.UPTOWN LUCY – Crowded for room near the 100m and had to be steadied. Race 5: COASTAL DEMOLITIONS PINK RIBBON CUP FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100M EXPRESSO LOVE – Jumped out at the start. Raced wide for the majority of the race. SERIGALA – Slow to begin. FEARLESS THINKING – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. GRANDEUR ROSE – Jockey A. Allen was fined $300 under the provision of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. Race 6: CRONIN MILLER LITIGATION CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 M PERUSAL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide the majority of the race. Forced wide from the 600m and was inclined to lay out from that point. OVER THE FALLS – Jumped in at the start. SWANIC BOOM – Leaving the 100m was momentarily awkwardly placed at the heels of JOVITA and having to be shifted wider to obtain clear running. Apprentice J. Williams was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) to ride his mounts out to the end of the race. METER MAID – Raced keenly in the early stages. CUDDLES – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Race 7: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1050 M SHINSHINTO – Raced keenly between the 800m until approaching the 600m. COSMIC SERENADE – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer I. Turner stated that the mare had been forced to race wide at the two most recent starts when racing on the speed. He added that he had applied a tongue tie to the approved racing gear of DIAMOND LASS for today’s race which he felt had benefitted mare. Stewards noted the explanation. SEA DRAGON – Jumped out at the start and bumped LIVELY LASS. Shortly after the start had to restrained to avoid the heels of COSMIC SERENADE which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice J. Williams, rider of COSMIC SERENADE, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. DIAMOND LASS – Jockey M. Cahill reported that the mare travelled comfortably, however when let down leaving the 300m, responded fairly and was somewhat disappointed in the performance over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. POCKETROCKET – After being slow to begin was then crowded between runners and had to be steadied.
