Williams pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR188(b) for weighing out for Race 1 in a safety vest that had been modified. Subsequently apprentice Williams was fined $1000. Race 1: GOLD COAST COMMUNITY FUND CHARITY RACE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M DELARENTA – Shifted out at the start and bumped BETTER THAN LOVE. When asked to comment on the performance apprentice C. Waddell stated that she was not overly disappointed in the performance however was of the opinion the horse did not handle the synthetic racing surface. PRICE COST – Slow to begin and then bumped shortly after and lost ground. Over raced in the early and middle stages. BETTER THAN LOVE – Bumped at the start. VELVET – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped PRICE COST. Apprentice E. Lang was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. BORN TO BE ALIVE – When asked to comment, jockey M. Cahill stated that after being caught wide in the early stages he was obliged to race four-wide from the 700m when MAGIC OF MILLO shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near-foreleg. PRINCESS BEAN – Jockey N. Thomas reported his mount never travelled comfortably throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S. Sixtus advised that it would be her intention to add a tongue tie to the horse’s gear. Trainer S. Sixtus was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s competitiveness. A CERTAIN MAYBE – Laid out rounding the home turn. ARABIAN FOX – Began awkwardly. MAGIC OF MILLO – Raced wide from the 700m. Laid out for a short distance passing the 500m. Race 2: TAB WE'RE ON BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200M CORFE CASTLE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 700m, when racing in restricted room, bumped heavily on the hind quarters, was turned in and became unbalanced and had to be checked. At a subsequent inquiry, it was established that ALBERT’S IN CHARGE, after laying in and racing ungenerously when being restrained to obtain cover, shifted out marginally and WOWIT’S WILLYWONKA shifted in marginally. WOWIT'S WILLYWONKA – Raced wide throughout. Cast the off-hind plate in running. SPIRIT'S CHARM – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight before being corrected by its rider. FLAG HALL – Jumped in at the start and crowded FLICK. Over raced in the early stages. ALBERT'S IN CHARGE – When being restrained in the early stages to obtain cover, commenced to race ungenerously for some distance. Continued to over race until a point approaching the home turn. Bumped with CORFE CASTLE near the 700m. Jockey J. Murphy, when asked to comment on tactics adopted, advised that instructions were to ride ALBERT’S IN CHARGE with cover as opposed to its most recent five starts where the horse had led. Ms P. Campbell, trainer of ALBERT’S IN CHARGE, was reminded of her obligations under AR100(1)(a) to notify a change of tactics in similar circumstances. BLUE VELVET – On arrival at the barriers, the saddle of the mare was readjusted. Began awkwardly. Following the running of this race jockey W. D’Avila was examined by the QAS officials after complaining of pain in his right foot and was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements. Race 3: GOLD COAST COMMUNITY FUND CHARITY RACE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1050M APACHE FLASH – Slow to begin. Jockey D. Peisley was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. ALMIGHTY RISING – Raced wide throughout. SHE'S SO VAIN – Laid out rounding the home turn. Jockey C. Eaton was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. Race 4: PETER 'PEDRO' GALLAGHER MEMORIAL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1050M DOMINANCE – Laid out rounding the home turn and continued to shift out under pressure in the home straight. SEVERINE – Raced wide for the majority WHISKEY DANCER – Raced wide for the majority. Near the 700m, bumped and became unbalanced momentarily when GUS THE BUS laid out. Taken wider rounding the home turn when DOMINANCE laid out. When questioned regarding his vigour over the concluding stages, Apprentice J. Williams reported that his saddle had shifted approaching the finishing line. Stewards whilst noting the explanation provided by apprentice Williams, was reminded of his obligations to report to Stewards any occurrence during the race which may affect the position of his horse. UPLOADS – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. Hung out from the 500m until the entrance to the home straight. CRYSTALLIZATION – Raced wide for the majority Race 5: GOLD COAST COMMUNITY FUND CHARITY RACE MAIDEN PLATE 1540M CUE TO CONQUER – Jockey M. Murphy pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(5) for using the whip on 18 occasions in totality throughout the race. Jockey Murphy’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight the 30th of September and to expire midnight the 7th of October 2023. DOUBLE QUICK – Raced wide in the early stages. ROCHEAUX – Began awkwardly, bumped shortly after the start and lost ground. BAGUIO (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. MISS MOUNTBATTEN – Shifted in at the start and bumped ROCHEAUX. Raced wide from the 800m. ARIK LAD – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. DARABAZ – Began awkwardly. Race 6: THE LUCAS MILLOTT MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1900M The start was delayed when a front bandage of PATTI WAGGIN had to be replaced prior to being presented in the saddling enclosure. ZOOMURUDI – At the start restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a rearward position closer to the rails. BRAVE BOY – Near the 300m, was momentarily disappointed for a run between ZOOMRUDI and SAGRADO which shifted out. When asked to comment on performance, jockey M. Hellyer stated that the horse was inclined to race flat throughout the event and in his opinion BRAVE BOY may be better suited to races over a longer distance than that of todays event. Trainer C. Zintilis advised that in light of todays performance the horse would now be freshened up. IDLING BY – Apprentice J. Williams was fined $400 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. PATTI WAGGIN – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn. Jockey M. Cahill was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. FEND OFF (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages before progressing forward to lead the event from the 1200m. Jockey J. Taylor reported that his mount travelled comfortably, however when placed under pressure, did not respond to his riding. Trainer K. Afford was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s competitiveness. Race 7: GOLD COAST COMMUNITY FUND CHARITY RACE CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1540M EXALTED CROWN – Jockey M. Cahill was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. FINE RUBY – Began awkwardly. When the pace of the race eased near the 1300m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MARTINI DANCER – When asked to comment on performance, jockey N. Callow reported that his mount travelled comfortably, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, responded only fairly to his riding. JUBILANT – Momentarily held up near the 400m. NAVY BLACK – Slow to begin. Near the 1400m, had to be steadied when crowded for room by WANDILLA which was taken in by DESERT FLAME when not fully clear. Jockey G. Goomany the rider of DESERT FLAME was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. WANDILLA – Raced wide throughout.
