GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 2. M. Cahill +0.5kg

Race 5. Trainer J. Moore was fined $300 pursuant to LR36(6) for failing to scratch dual acceptor PABALLO by the prescribed time.

Race 1: ALDER CONSTRUCTIONS MAIDEN PLATE 1900 Metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow connections of the second placegetter TOOTSIE to view the patrol footage over the concluding stages.

DOUBLE QUICK – Raced keenly during the early stages. Laid out under pressure from the 400m and when under pressure in the straight, shifted ground under riding, obliging apprentice J. Williams to stop and straighten on several occasions. As a consequence, TOOTSIE shifted out and away from that gelding near the 300m and brushed with ROCHEAUX, which was laying in. Apprentice J. Williams was notified he must make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances. A post race veterinary examination found the gelding had bled from the near side nostril. Trainer K. Hickmott was advised that DOUBLE QUICK must gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again under the provisions of AR79(8).

ROCHEAUX – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

RED VEGAS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

TOOTSIE – Raced keenly during the early stages. Near the 300m, shifted out an away from DOUBLE QUICK and brushed with ROCHEAUX; then was slightly inconvenienced near the 150m when DOUBLE QUICK shifted out under pressure.

Race 2: AIR CONTROL PTY LTD CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1050 Metres

HAMAKI – Bumped on jumping.

COODARADY – Laid in during the early stages, and passing the 900m caused some tightening to AFFINITY FLYER and BUNNAMAGOO.

AFFINITY FLYER – Raced tight passing the 900m.

BUNNAMAGOO – Began awkwardly and bumped HAMAKI. Raced tight passing the 900m.

SWANIC BOOM – The explanation from trainer I. Turner as to the late declaration of rider, was accepted. Approaching the 800m, steadied when tightened between COODARADY, which when being straightened, then shifted out slightly; and SHE’S SO VAIN (C. Eaton), which shifted in slightly, when improving. Jockey C. Eaton was advised to exercise more care.

SHE'S SO VAIN – Raced wide without cover from the 800m.

Race 3: BEAM CONCRETING MAIDEN HANDICAP 1540 Metres

THE BRONX BULL – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load. When questioned regarding his ride, apprentice J. Franklin stated he had been instructed to lead on the gelding. He stated after beginning well and when PABALLO showed the intention to go forward, he was obliged to ride THE BRONX BULL hard to follow his instructions, before being able to settle the gelding in the lead passing the 1000m. He said when PABALLO again showed its intention to sit on the outside of THE BRONX BULL, he commenced to niggle the gelding passing the 700m and when asked for an effort approaching the 400m, responded moderately before weakening in the straight. Trainer M. Wilson confirmed the instructions but expressed disappointment with the ride. Apprentice Franklin acknowledged he should have shown more initiative in giving his mount some respite in taking the sit off Paballo in the middle stages. He was notified his ride in the middle stages of the race, given the circumstances, was not up to the standard expected, however, noting his relative inexperience and acknowledgement of his error, he was severely reprimanded. Apprentice J Franklin was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m. A post veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: ALDER CONSTRUCTIONS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200 Metres

ASTERN MAGIC – Shifted in on jumping and bumped MILLIFFE. Apprentice J. Franklin was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m.

SHINSHINTO – Raced wide without cover from the 800m.

ALMIGHTY RISING – Began awkwardly, then checked shortly after when tightened between SHOTGUN DIVA, which shifted out and MILIFFE which shifted in after being bumped by ASTERN MAGIC.

GHOST HUNTER – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover from the 800m.

SHOTGUN DIVA – Raced keenly during the early and middle stages.

MILLIFFE – Bumped at start.

Race 5: AIRLIE SUMMIT MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres

FULL SCREEN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 300m shifted in after steading from the heels of ADELAIDE’S LACE.

GUS THE BUS – Raced wide with no cover.

SQUEAK (NZ) – Jockey S. Galloway was fined $200 pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finish.

ZESTY BOY (NZ) – Began awkwardly.

Race 6: DONE RIGHT CONSTRUCTIONS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2000 Metres

Stewards considered an objection lodged by apprentice S. Callow (OSAKA MISS), which was placed second alleging interference near the 100m against TROPIC SANDS (C. Robertson) being declared the winner of the race. On the evidence, it was established that near the 100m, OSAKA MISS which was improving to the inside of TROPIC SANDS, steadied and shifted out around the heels of TROPIC SANDS when that gelding shifted in slightly. As Stewards were of the view that despite any interference caused to OSAKE MISS, that mare would not have finished ahead of TROPIC SANDS at the end of the race, the objection was dismissed and correct weight declared on the judges semaphored numbers. At a subsequent inquiry, whilst there was acknowledgement from rider Craig Robertson his mount had shifted in, a doubt existed as to whether TROPIC SANDS had shifted into the running of OSAKA MISS, therefore rider C. Robertson was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a).

LUCAMOUR – Shifted out on jumping and bumped THE LOVE OF MARY. Rider J. Adams reported the gelding, which was second up from a spell today, came to the end of its run passing the 300m and for this reason, eased it down in the straight.

SIR ZINO (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping and bumped THE LOVE OF MARY.

OSAKA MISS – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 500m until the 400m.

THE LOVE OF MARY – Hampered on jumping.

NOT A FAT BOY – Late withdrawal at 2.05pm after travelling on the same float enroute to the track as DESERT FLAME in Race7.

Race 7: ELECTRACT ENERGY PTY LTD CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1540 Metres

TOOLATEMATE – Reared on jumping.

NAUGHTY HARRY (NZ) – Held up for clear running from the 500m until passing the 300m.

TERMITE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover from the 1200m.

SEA OF QI – Bumped on jumping.

SHE MINE – Shifted in on jumping and bumped SEA OF QI.

REAL MINT – Eased from down the 200m. Apprentice J. Williams reported he was concerned with the mare’s action, particularly in the home straight and for this reason he eased REAL MINT down from the 200m. As the mare had left the course before undergoing a post race veterinary examination, trainer J. Bellamy was notified REAL MINT would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

JESTER STATEMENT – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 400m was bumped by WANDILLA, which shifted out slightly.

DESERT FLAME – Declared a late withdrawal at 2.05pm after becoming cast on the float enroute. Trainer S. Alam was advised that DESERT FLAME will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
