Race 1: BACK ON TRACK 9 DECEMBER Maiden Plate 1540 metres

OUR DRUMMER – Apprentice J. Williams stated it was the intention to sit off the pace from his wide barrier; however, after the gelding began well, he was of the view that he would have had to unnecessarily restrain OUR DRUMMER to follow those instructions. He said he then elected to press forward and was then obligated to race four wide until he was able to cross and take the lead near the 900m. He added that the effort used in the early and middle stages had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s finishing effort. Laid out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
