STEWARDS REPORT

GOLD COAST TURF CLUB

AQUIS PARK SATURDAY 17 FEBRARY 2024

WEATHER – Fine   TRACK RATING –  Synthetic     RAIL – True

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – B. Wright
Stewards – D. McMahon, S. Fletcher, S. Borg (Cadet)

GENERAL

Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:

Race 5 – MINTO’S POWER – M. Palmer +0.5kg (55.5kg)

Race 1: NETWORK ARCHITECTURAL MAIDEN HANDICAP         1540 M

BAMBOOZLED – Fractious in barriers prior to the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood at both nostrils. BAMBOOZLED (a) for a period of 2 months after the attack of bleeding, must not, without the permission of the Stewards, be trained, exercised or galloped on a racecourse, recognized training track, private training establishment, or other place; (b) must not start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1,000 metres: or (ii) an Official Trial or Jump Out, in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward.

SEEYA LATER GATER – When under pressure in the straight, laid in.

CRUSADER RAZOR – Began awkwardly.

EVERCLEAR – Cast its off-hind plate in running.

Race 2: CSR GYPROCK BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1200 M

PERNELL – Slow into stride.

CRYPTO CURRENCY – Raced wide for the majority. Hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.

MA'S EPIC – Jockey S. Galloway was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m, 3 more than permitted. In considering penalty, Stewards took into account his excellent recent record and his forthright evidence.

VADABOOM (NZ) – Hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.

FULL CRY – Raced wide until the 700m. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Race 3: NORTH AUSTRALIAN CONTRACTING BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1900 M

JUST A JEDI – Inconvenienced when contacted near 1400m.

ZOUY'S COMET – Slow to begin. When questioned, jockey C. Whiteley explained with the blinkers on today, he was asked to take up a more forward position. He said after being slow to begin, he rode the gelding to sit off the pace, however as he was obliged to race three-wide without cover passing the 1600m, he elected to push on and take the lead near the 1400m. Trainer W. Bannerot confirmed the instructions, however; added it has always been the intention to race in a forward position but the gelding has been slow to muster speed in recent starts. Trainer W. Bannerot was reminded of her obligations to notify of any proposed change of tactics.

PAGATO – After being crossed by ZOUY’S COMET near the 1400m, shifted out abruptly away from that gelding’s heels, making contact with JUST A JEDI, inconveniencing that runner. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Over the final 200m, laid in.

Race 4: PRECISION GROUP CLASS 4 HANDICAP  1200 M

BEAN FOGGY – Raced wide throughout.

DEEP BLAST – Began awkwardly.

WATERWORLD – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

IN THE BLINK – When racing keenly near the 900m, steadied from the heels of DEEP BLAST.

FACETIOUS – Began awkwardly.

UPLOADS – Slow into stride. In the early stages, raced with its head up.

Race 5: RONDO BUILDING SERVICES MAIDEN HANDICAP         1050 M

SWITCH AND SLIDE – Became cast in the float on route to the track and sustained superficial lacerations. Subsequently was declared a late withdrawal on Veterinary advice at 3:13pm.

DECISIVELY – When under pressure in the straight, raced ungenerously, proving difficult to ride.

ENERGIZED – Slow to begin and then slow to muster early speed.

TORRE EGGER – Raced wide until the 700m.

JUST FOR PLEASURE – After beginning well from the inside gate, took up the lead.

BETTER THAN LOVE – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly. Apprentice J. Williams advised the gelding, which was first up from a spell, was not suited to racing back in the field with the kickback.

ENUFF STOP IT – Began awkwardly. Approaching the winning post, was awkward to the inside of MINTO’S POWER, which shifted in slightly. Consequently, the mare was not ridden out fully to the end of the race. Apprentice S. Champkin was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.

Race 6: THE KIDS' CANCER PROJECT CLASS 1 PLATE  1540 M

CRAZY ABOUT YOU – Underwent a veterinary examination at the request of rider J. Guthman-Chester on arrival at the barriers. The gelding was found to be short in its action behind and was subsequently declared a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 4:44pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on CRAZY ABOUT YOU be refunded with the following deductions to apply –

1st – 9c the win, 7c the place
2nd – 15c the place

ENTERPRISE SUCCESS – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced.

NICE WATER – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced.

SHIGERU – Slow to begin.

SILVER ONYX – Raced wide for the majority.

DANCE BABE – Leaving the crossing at the 1400m, dipped. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $400 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his good recent record and his forthright evidence.

Race 7: BAYSIDE PLASTERBOARD & BUILDING SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP       1100 M

Stewards considered an objection lodged by jockey E. Chaves, the rider of the second placed FREELAND, against MY DOG DIESEL (App S. Champkin) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 300m. On the evidence, Stewards were of the view that near the 250m, MY DOG DIESEL shifted out, taking FREELAND off its line, before being straightened. MY DOG DIESEL again shifted out slightly passing the 100m, obliging FREELAND to shift out slightly. As the Stewards were of the view that had the interference to FREELAND not occurred, that filly would have finished ahead of MY DOG DIESEL at the end of the race and therefore upheld the objection. Correct weight was declared on the new numbers 9,3,4,11.

SEVENTIES HIT – Raced wide throughout.

HE'S ESSENTIAL – Began awkwardly.

REDSNAP – Slow into stride. Approaching the 800m, REDSNAP, which had been racing behind IN MOTION (C. Bayliss), shifted to the inside of that colt and then was checked when tightened for room between IN MOTION and BOARDIE. On the available evidence, C. Bayliss was reminded to exercise more care in similar situations.

IN MOTION – Raced wide throughout.

FREELAND – Carried off its course by MY DOG DIESEL for a short distance after 250m. Apprentice S. Champkin was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for permitting her mount to shift out under riding.

SHE IS ALL MAGIC – Raced wide throughout.

DUCHESS OF MILAN – Slow to muster early speed.
