SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 7: R. Wiggins +0.5kg
Race 3: Licensed Trainer I. Turner was fined $200 for the late gear changes on MATTE BLACK.
Race1:MEN MATTER JULY 20 QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE1200 M
BUTWEDID: Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Rider B. Thornton reported the gelding did not feel right in its action during the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
MISHANI EMPIRE: Slow to begin.
MISS TRUSTFUL: At the 900m, obliged to steady from the heels of JULIETA (App J. Williams), which shifted in when not quite clear. Apprentice J. Williams was advised to exercise greater care. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
TWINKLE TIME: Raced wide without cover from the 800m.
Race 2:LIFEFLIGHT LOTTERIES MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
BOOM CRUSHER: Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
CHERBOURG: Tightened on jumping. When racing keenly near the 900m, steadied from heels of SHORT APPROACH, after brushed when tightened by BOOM CRUSHER (App J. Williams), which had improved to the outside and shifted in slightly. STELLAR TRIXIE, which was attempting to improve to the inside, was inconvenienced. In the circumstances, App J. Williams was severely reprimanded.
DESTINY DALAI: Race wide throughout. Rider L. Miller reported the gelding did not respond to his riding throughout the race and was eased down from the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
STRONG MARTINI: Began awkwardly.
STELLAR TRIXIE: Slow to begin. Shortly after, momentarily steadied from heels when restraining for cover. Near the 900m was inconvenienced.
Race 3:HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY BRUCE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1050 M
HOLLYWOOD EPIC: Began awkwardly. Passing the 800m got its head up when being steadied from the heels of MATTE BLACK. Rider J. Guthman-Chester reported the colt, which was having its first race start, laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ROCKINAHARDPLACE: Began awkwardly, buffeted between runners and lost ground. Near 800m momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of BENNU. Raced in restricted room approaching the finishing line when BENNU laid in. Rider P. Hammersley reported the gelding did not feel right in its action.
COSMIC FLARE: Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with ROCKINAHARDPLACE. Over raced in the early stages.
DANCES IN GRINZING: Laid out throughout. Over raced considerably in the middle stages and again approaching the home turn, proving difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
BENNU: Began awkwardly. Laid in over the concluding stages.
Race 4:CURRUMBIN EAGLES FOOTBALL CLUB BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 2000 M
ZOOMURUDI: Hampered between runners on jumping and lost ground. Laid in throughout.
TROPIC SANDS: Began awkwardly shifted out. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
TIRITIRI (NZ): Began awkwardly and shifted in. Over raced in the early stages. Rider M. Palmer reported the gelding was found wanting over the longer journey today. Trainer P. Shailer advised the gelding will be freshened up.
SKYLON (NZ): Change of tactics - attempt to lead. Settled behind leader. Over raced early. Rounding the home turn, taken wider by SAXON BRAVE, which laid out.
SAXON BRAVE: Laid out rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
PATTI WAGGIN: Raced wide without cover early before reaching the lead near the 1200m.
Race 5:MEMBERS & MATES GCTC 29 JUNE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1540 M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, rider A. Spinks (SPACE JOURNEY), viewed the official footage of the home straight before deciding not to lodge an objection against the winner IRENE’S BEST.
IRENE'S BEST: Approaching the 100m, momentarily steadied and shifted out when SPACE JOURNEY shifted in slightly. In the run to the winning post, raced tight with SPACE JOURNEY and at the winning post, brushed with that gelding.
DELIBES: Began awkwardly and lost ground.
SPACE JOURNEY: Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide for the majority.
SISTINE CHAPEL: Declared a late withdrawal at 2:14pm, by Stewards acting on veterinary advice, after the mare slipped over in the race-day stalls. On declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on SISTINE CHAPEL to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – IRENE’S BEST 5c win, 4c place
2nd – SPACE JOURNEY 7c place
3rd – WEEKEND ARTIST 9c place
Trainer J. Bellamy was advised a veterinary certificate will be required for SISTINE CHAPEL prior to racing again.
AMERICOLA (NZ): Hampered on jumping.
BETTER THAN LOVE: Slow to begin, then bumped shortly after the start and lost ground. It was noted a strap from the barrier blanket used on the gelding fell onto the track at this point. Rider N. Tomizawa reported after being caught wide early, he allowed the gelding to stride and sit outside the lead near the 1200m.
Race 6:TAB WE'RE ON BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 M
TANKER: Laid in over the concluding stages when placed under pressure.
SERIGALA: Apprentice C. Waddell reported the mare raced keenly for most of the event and consequently did not finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
ALMIGHTY RISING: Hampered between runners on jumping and lost ground.
LONDON POINT (NZ): Had some difficulty obtaining clear running on straightening, before shifting to the inside of TANKER near the 200m. When laying in approaching the end of the race, raced in restricted room to the inside of TANKER, which also laid in.
ROCK TOGETHER: Slow into stride. Passing the 150m steadied and shifted to the outside of ALMIGHTY RISING to continue going forward.
FULL CRY: Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide throughout.
PRICE COST: Had difficulty obtaining a clear running rounding the home turn.
WHISKEY DANCER: When being loaded into the gate, was somewhat fractious resulting the App J. Williams’ left foot making contact with up right. Began awkwardly and shifted out. When weakening near the 100m, eased when tightened between ALMIGHTY RISING (B. Ward), which shifted in slightly and PRICE COST (R. Wiggins), which was attempting to come to the outside of SIRIGALA (App C. Waddell), which was shifting out at this point. In the circumstances, riders R. Wiggins, B. Ward and Apprentice C. Wadell were advised to exercise more care.
Race 7: TAB BETS FRIENDS GCTC OPEN HANDICAP 1100 M
JAMAICAN RUMBA: Rider J. Guthman-Chester reported although the gelding was not suited to THE BILLIONAIRE racing to its outside in the lead, he felt that the performance was disappointing, as it did not let down as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
THE BILLIONAIRE: After the race it was noted, the gelding lost its off-hind plate.
GET WHAT YOU GIVE: Slow to begin.
KRAKARIB: Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages and there after raced wide without cover.
DEEP FIRE: Slow to begin.
Following the race Apprentices J. Williams and C. Waddell were examined by QAS, regarding Apprentice J. William’s left foot and Apprentice C. Waddell’s left index finger and both were stood down from riding. Both Apprentices will be required to provide a medical clearance prior to riding again.
Race 8: AQUIS THE HOME OF 2YO SPEED BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200 M
FENTON – Raced very keenly in the middle stages. Held up approaching the home turn.
PANGAEA – Slow to begin. Rider P. Hammersley reported the gelding from its rearward position made gradual ground under pressure in the straight but added that being a back marker in today’s race, made it difficult to make ground prior to straightening.
MONEY BEAR – Began awkwardly.
HAMILTON BROWN – Raced wide in the early stages.
REPHRASE – Shortly after the start, raced in restricted room between CAREEFOUR and HAMILTON BROWN before restraining for cover. Rider J. Guthman-Chester reported from the wide barrier was obliged to settle in a rearward position, however; did not finish the race off as expected and was disappointing.
GLAMOURING – Race wide throughout.
FIFTY CARATS – Raced wide throughout.
MISHANI PERSUASION – Slow to begin. Bumped on the hindquarters rounding the home turn and became unbalanced when PANGAEA rolled out.
