Race 1: HUM ENERGY MAIDEN PLATE  1540 M

The start was delayed when RANGER ENJAY broke through the outside rail near the 1600m and dislodged rider Paul Hammersley. The gelding galloped riderless for some distance prior to being captured and was a late withdrawal at 12:27pm. Further, TRAPEZE FLYER underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of rider Taylor Marshall, who expressed concern with the gelding’s action behind and was also a late withdrawal at 12:27pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on RANGER ENJAY and TRAPEZE FLYER be refunded with the following deductions to apply –

1st place – 4c win, 3c place
2nd place – 12c place
3rd place – 13c place

B. Ahrens, trainer of RANGER ENJAY was advised the gelding would be required to perform to Stewards satisfaction in an Official trial prior to next racing.

G. Laming, trainer of TRAPEZE FLYER was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.

The start of this race was further delayed when remedial work was required to the outside running rail near the 1600m. The race eventually started approximately 15 minutes late.

BAUHAUS – Raced keen in the early and middle stages.

MISSAYTER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover from the 700m.

DELIBES – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keen early.

Following this race, rider P. Hammersley reported a soft-tissue injury to his left shoulder blade.

Race 2: MARSH ADVANTAGE INSURANCE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP  1050 M

ON MERIT – Slow into stride. Raced wide without cover throughout. Apprentice J. Williams was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. Apprentice J. Williams reported his mount was obliged to race wide without cover and did not appreciate the large weight impost of 62kg.

RUBYDOO – Rider M. Cahill reported the filly, which was resuming today, did not travel throughout the race and resented the kickback.

LES GIRLS – Near the 900m, steadied when tightened between RUBYDOO and VELVET, which was taken in by KERNEL BOOM (K. Matheson). Rider K. Matheson was advised to exercise greater care. Raced wide throughout.

MY GIRONA – Began awkwardly. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

VELVET – Raced wide without cover throughout.

TAMSIN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: HOSPITALITY & STRATA ACCOUNTANTS | AUDITORS MAIDEN HANDICAP  1050 M

THE BEST BAD BOY – Slow into stride.

Race 5: ARCHERS THE STRATA PROFESSIONALS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP  1540 M

Stewards gave consideration to whether HELL FOLLOWS had been afforded a fair start. On the evidence, Stewards were of the view that prior to the start being effected, HELL FOLLOWS had been fractious and got its near hind leg up, resulting in the mare facing up awkwardly and rider K. Matheson being partially unseated as the gates opened. As a consequence, HELL FOLLOWS did not jump with the field and on leaving the gates, did so riderless. As the Stewards were of the view that HELL FOLLOWS had be denied a fair start, the mare was declared a non-starter and relevant betting deductions were made as follows.

1st place – 5c win, 5c place
2nd place – 5c place
3rd place – 6c place

Trainer’s representative was advised a warning would be placed against the mare for its barrier manners.

FLIC EN FLAC – In the straight, laid in and near the 150m contacted the hindquarters of SKATER, turning that mares fore-quarters out, resulting in FLIC EN FLAC then being steadied. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have the thumps.

CALL ME ARTIE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

Race 6: KELLY & PARTNERS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS CLASS 2 HANDICAP  1200 M

LIVING FREE – Began awkwardly. Rider P. Hammersley was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR132(5) for using the whip excessively over the final 100m.

NEOCLASSICISM – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

COBURG – Began awkwardly, shifted in and tightened MISS SHU.

MISS SHU (NZ) – Tightened on jumping. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

INTOXEL – Late withdrawal at 9:30am when there was no rider available at the weight.

DUSKY DANCER – Apprentice A. Graham was fined $100 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using the whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
