GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following overweights at today’s meeting:

Race 1: MINISTER GARRETT – S Cummins 55kg (+0.5kg)
Race 6: SIR ZINA – S Cummins 55kg (+1kg)
Race 6: MAGIC OF MILLO – M Murphy 56kg (+1kg)


Race 1: TAB ARMA CONFERENCE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1900M

NITROGEN – Jumped in the at the start and lost ground. Near the 500m shifted out to improve and forced HELLUVA SOIREE and MINISTER GARRETT wider on the track. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

TRAPEZE FLYER – Began very awkwardly shifted out and bumped MINISTER GARRETT. Raced wide in the early stages.

SWITZERLAND SUN – Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to lead the event from the 1200m.

HELLUVA SOIREE – Forced wider on the track approaching the home turn.

MINISTER GARRETT – Bumped at the start. Forced wider on the track approaching the home turn. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MIDNIGHT SEAS – Near the 1600m steadied when momentarily tightened between NO DOUBLE DIPPING and TRAPEZE FLYER. Raced keenly in the middle stages of the event.

NO DOUBLE DIPPING – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing signs of heat stress along with signs of tying up. NO DOUBLE DIPPING was treated accordingly by the on course veterinary surgeon.



Race 2: POLVIN FENCING MAIDEN PLATE 1200M

CASINO COAST – Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer A Chau regarding the late declaration of K Matheson as the rider on the gelding.

EXPOSITION – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

JANNIK – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 900m raced keenly for a short distance. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider R Thorburn advised the gelding was not suited after being caught wide throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.

SEEYA LATER GATER – Slow to begin.

STEEL KING – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice J McMurray was reminded of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances when they begin to shift ground.

IKNOWICANFLY – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was readjusted. Fractious after being loaded into the barriers. Rider S Willis reported following the event IKNOWICANFLY, when fractious, contacted the front barrier partition and also her head had made contact with the overhead partition in the barrier stall. A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood in the mouth.

LITERACY – Slow to begin.

SHINTARO LASS – Trainer I Turner was fined $100 under LR67(1) for failing to declare C Sutherland as the rider on the mare by the prescribed time. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near hind coronet.

SODAMCUTE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.



Race 3: TORO AUSTRALIA BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1050M

The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes when both COUNT NICHOLAS and VIKING VALOUR required saddle readjustments on arrival at the barriers.

COSMIC SERENADE – When asked to comment rider C Sutherland reported the mare was not suited by the fast early speed in the race and also the 63.5kg impost also affected the overall performance.

COUNT NICHOLAS – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was readjusted. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

CRYMENOTEARS – Near the 900m momentarily steadied when REMLAPS ANGEL shifted in after being taken in by FAST FUSION (A Graham). Apprentice Graham was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

FAST FUSION – Jumped out at the start and bumped VIKING VALOUR. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice A Graham reported FAST FUSION was not suited by not being able to lead as per its last start winning performance, and also the mare had a tendency to race greenly throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying symptoms of heat stress and was treated accordingly.

VIKING VALOUR – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was readjusted. Bumped at the start.

REMLAPS ANGEL – Held up for clear running at the entrance to the home straight.

MARLEEDOONE – Crowded for room and steadied near the 900m. Shifted wider on the track leaving the 500m.

CAPTAIN ARTIE – Slow to begin. Checked passing the 900m when tightened for room by MOUNT DOVE (D Peisley), which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. In noting the circumstances of the incident, including the evidence of Grish Goomany, rider of CAPTAIN ARTIE, relating to the racing manners of that gelding at the point of the incident, Stewards reprimanded D Peisley for careless riding under AR131(a) for the manner he shifted in at an acute angle prior to being corrected.


Race 4: TURFCARE AUSTRALIA BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1540M

MAN OF HEART – Stood flatfooted at the start and then was then unable to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider. Held up for clear running for a short distance near the 200m. Trainer S Sutherland was advised a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of MAN OF HEART.

MATTE BLACK – Began awkwardly.

SUPERARGO – Jumped in at the start and bumped BRIEF SOJOURN.

SCHOONA THE BETTER – Slow to begin.

MISS SHU – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.

THE WELLIAN – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.

BETTER STRINGS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MIDNIGHT BOOM – Rider R Thorburn reported his saddle shifted during the race which placed him at some disadvantage throughout the event.

BRIEF SOJOURN – Bumped at the start. Raced wide for the majority.



Race 5: ELITE SAND & SOIL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1540M

BAUHAUS – Began awkwardly resulting in rider K Matheson becoming unbalanced for a number of strides, and as a consequence settled further back in the field than anticipated. Raced keenly in the early stages.

DUSTYIAM – Near the 1400m inconvenienced when steadied from the heels of SILVER WARRIOR (J McMurray) which shifted in when not fully clear. J McMurray was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Raced wide in the middle stages of the event.


Race 6: FOLLOW @TURFTRAX BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1900M

NO MORE RED – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

FIREBOLT – Laid under pressure in the home straight.

INTENTIONAL LASS – Laid under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

HELL FOLLOWS – Slow to begin.

SUPER FENKEL – Near the 700m hampered when steadied from the heels of SIR ZINO (S Cummins) which shifted out to improve. S Cummins was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. When racing wide near the 500m was steadied and shifted in across the heels of FIREBOLT.

MISSAYTER – Trainer G Carpenter was reprimanded under LR67(1) for failing to declare T Brooker as the rider on the mare by the prescribed time. Held up for clear running between the 500m until passing the 300m.

MAGIC OF MILLO – Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer A Plumb regarding the late declaration of M Murphy as the rider on the gelding. Jockey M Murphy pleaded guilty to a charge under AR188(c) in that he weighed out with a safety vest which was not approved and was subsequently fined $400. Raced wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 1100m. Raced keenly in the middle stages. When asked to comment rider M Murphy explained the gelding was obliged to work hard in the early stages after being caught wide and when placed under pressure from the 400m did not respond to his riding from that point and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slight amount of blood in the mouth.



Race 7: AUSTRALIAN RACECOURSE MANAGERS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200M

TOWN CRIER – Brushed with NEOCLASSICISM near the 900m.

NEOCLASSICISM – Brushed with TOWN CRIER near the 900m.

NOBLE STYLE – Began awkwardly and shifted out at the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider M Hellyer reported the mare raced flat today and in his opinion the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer representative D Barron gave the undertaking to report back as to the mare’s future racing program.

VELOCE METEOR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

FLYING TYROL – Raced keenly for a short distance near the 900m.

PRESS LIGHTLY – Slow to begin.
