GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
 
Race 6 – MIDNIGHT BOOM – T. Brooker +1kg (55kg)
Race 7 – OPTIMUS MAXIMUS – A. Thompson +1kg (55kg)
 
Prior to the running of race 5, Jockey D. Peisley was reprimanded pursuant to AR128(2) for failing to remain in the jockeys room until he had completed his riding engagements.
 
Race 1: QUEENSLAND BRAIN INSTITUTE MND MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M
 
The start of this race was effected manually.
 
FAST DA – In consultation with trainer L Freedman, Stewards permitted the gelding to race without a tongue tie as declared after this piece of gear was unable to be attached.
 
EXPOSITION – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
LUNAR EIGHT – Blundered on jumping.
 
READY NEDDY GO – Raced wide from the 800m. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, jockey K. Matheson advised that he commenced to pressure the mare from leaving the 800m, at which point READY NEDDY GO responded fairly to his riding however then desisted from pressuring the mare from the 200m after commencing to weaken. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities other than minor coughing. Trainer C. Anderson advised it would be his intention for the horse to undergo a dynamic endoscopic examination in the coming days, and he would report back to Stewards with any relevant findings.
 
Race 2: REMEMBERING WILLIAM AND ELSIE MORGAN BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1150 M
 
The start of this race was effected manually.
 
CHERBOURG – Near the 800m, hampered and taken wider when FLYING BAT shifted out. Raced wide throughout.
 
STERN IMPULSE – Raced wide throughout.
 
FLYING BAT – Slow to begin and then hampered shortly after. Near the 1000m, steadied from the heels of STERN IMPULSE (D. McGillivray) which shifted in when not fully clear. As a consequence, FLYING BAT over-reacted when being steadied, got its head up and shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. In acknowledging the racing characteristics of FLYING BAT in this incident, Apprentice D. McGillivray was nonetheless reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
RIVA D'AMOR – Near the 800m, hampered and taken wider when FLYING BAT shifted out. When asked to comment, Jockey P. Hammersley reported after beginning only fairly, the mare was taken wider on the track passing the 800m, and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated.
 
OCEAN ALPS – Shifted in on jumping. Near the 1000m, steadied from the heels of STERN IMPULSE, shifted out and bumped ROMAN HUSSLER resulting in both OCEAN ALPS and ROMAN HUSSLER becoming unbalanced.
 
ROMAN HUSSLER – Tightened on jumping between STERN IMPULSE which shifted out and RIVA D’AMOR which shifted in. Near the 1000m, bumped by OCEAN ALPS and became unbalanced.
 
PRINCE OF MARAKESH – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 3: BUSINESS INSURANCE GROUP OPEN HANDICAP         1200 M

The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes when MORT DOYLE required farrier attention at the barriers after shifting a plate.
 
PAGATO – Near the 700m, steadied from the heels of THE BILLIONAIRE (M. Hellyer) which shifted out. Jockey M. Hellyer was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
DARE TO SHARE – Raced wide throughout.
 
MORT DOYLE – Jockey A. Thompson was replaced for acceptable reasons by jockey C. Waddell as the rider of MORT DOYLE. Raced wide throughout. Hung out for the majority of the event. Cast the near-fore plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer L. Abbott advised that gelding would now be retired, however should these circumstances change MORT DOYLE must trial satisfactorily prior to racing again.
 
SELLING SUNSET – Slow to begin.
 
Race 4: FLOWERS FOR EVERYONE MAIDEN PLATE 1050 M
 
SHINTARO LASS – Near the 700m, improved onto the heels of WATCH THIS ONE, shifted out and bumped GIRL AMONG MANY.
 
WATCH THIS ONE – Jumped out at the start.
 
GIRL AMONG MANY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Taken wider near the 700m when SHINTARO LASS shifted out and then raced wide from that point onwards.
 
Race 5: 4FRONT BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1050 M

BULSARA – Raced keenly for a short distance passing the 800m. Apprentice S. Willis was fined $500 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 4 more than permitted.
 
CADERAS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
CROWN GUINEA – Slow to begin.
 
Race 6: MADSEN PROPERTY BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP         1540 M
 
TAKUNAI – Slow to begin.
 
SKATER – Raced wide for the majority.
 
SLY CORNER (NZ) – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Passing the 150m, momentarily held up before obtaining a run to the inside of BIGGIE a short distance later.
 
CORDOZAR – Shortly after the start, crowded for room when FRIEND IN NEED shifted in after being bumped on the hind quarters. Raced keenly for a short distance passing the 1400m. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
WONFORWAZZA – Approaching the 1350m turn whilst racing keenly, commenced to lay out, became awkward and contacted the heels of FRIEND IN NEED, blundered and became unbalanced.
 
FRIEND IN NEED – Shifted in shortly after the start. Near the 250m, disappointed for a run to the inside of BIGGIE and obliged to steady and shift out around that runners heels to obtain clear running.
 
PAULI – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice R. Thorburn was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
 
Race 7: JOAN HADDOCK MEMORIAL MAIDEN HANDICAP         1540 M
 
FINE AND RARE – Near the 1100m, when the pace of the race slackened, inconvenienced and improved onto the heels of OPTIMUS MAXIMUS and shifted out.
 
SHARMAN PETE – Slow into stride.
 
LOYALTY COUNTS – Near the 1100m, when the pace of the race slackened, inconvenienced and became awkwardly placed at the heels of FINE AND RARE, shifted out abruptly and bumped WINDFLOWER.
 
CAPITAL BOSS – Trainer J. Bellamy was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to notify a rider within the prescribed time.
 
WINDFLOWER – Began awkwardly. Near 1100m, bumped by LOYALTY COUNTS, taken wider and lost ground.
 
OPTIMUS MAXIMUS – Began awkwardly. Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader leaving the 1200m. Jockey A. Thompson was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(d) for the manner that he reduced the pace of the race near the 1100m, resulting in FINE AND RARE and LOYALTY COUNTS being inconvenienced and WINDFLOWER being bumped and taken wider on the track. Weakened noticeably from the 800m, and in the home straight jockey A. Thompson eased the horse out of the event and finished a considerable distance last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting symptoms of cardiac arrythmia. Trainer P. Duff was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance, inclusive of results of an ECG and would also require a cardiac auscultation performed by a Veterinarian following a gallop/jumpout/trial of 1000m to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
