GENERAL
Race 2: Co-Trainers, T. Edmonds and S. McLean were reprimanded under LR36(6)(a) for failing to withdraw MISS SHU (NZ), from this race, which was a dual acceptor for the meeting, by the prescribed time.
Race 6: The explanation tended by Trainers, M. Wilson and B. Ahrens, for failing to declare riders on SHORT APPROACH and SISTINE CHAPEL respectively, was accepted.
Race 1:VEOLIA SUSTAINABILITY SERVICES BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1150 M
BULSARA: Near the 900m was momentarily steadied when tightened by THE BILLION (M. Hellyer), which shifted in when not quite clear. Rider M. Hellyer was notified to exercise greater care.
THE BILLIONAIRE: A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils on its first occasion. Trainer L. Freedman was advised THE BILLIONAIRE, is stood down from racing for three months pursuant to AR79(4) and must trial/jump out or gallop 1000m to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to resuming.
NEOCLASSICISM: Slow to begin.
Race 2:VEOLIA GREEN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1540 M
GOOD LIEUTENANT: Passing the 900m, was momentarily tightened by MEANSA MASESTRO, which was laying in. Laid out rounding the home turn. Rider M. Cahill reported the gelding is better suited when able to have its own way in front.
SILVER WARRIOR (SAF): App C. Sutherland was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 4 more than permitted. Further, he was severely reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
TAKUNAI: Slow to begin. Obliged to race wide approaching and rounding the home turn.
MENSA MAESTRO: Raced wide without cover throughout. Following the race, it was noted the gelding had lost all its plates but the near fore.
WONFORWAZZA: Began awkwardly.
Race 3:VEOLIA RESOURCE RECOVERY MAIDEN HANDICAP 2000 M
NOT A SINGLE DRINK: Tightened approaching the winning post.
AUTUMN SONG: Making the turn near the 1600m hung out and then for a short distance after, raced keenly when being restrained. Bumped passing the 400m.
SMELTER (IRE): In the early stages, raced keenly after being crossed by the JOHN’S ROAD near the 1500m.
HONOUR BRIGHT: Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages before being ridden to take up the lead near the 1000m. Laid out from the 500m until the 300m and passing the 400m bumped AUTUMN SONG.
LADY PARVATI: Slow to muster speed. Raced wide from the 600m. In the home straight laid in and when under pressure approaching the winning post, tightened the running of NOT A SINGLE DRINK. Rider N. Tomizawa was reprimanded under AR131(a).
MIDNIGHT SEAS: Began awkwardly momentarily unbalancing App D. Bennett.
NO DOUBLE DIPPING: Passing the 400m, was momentarily awkward on the heels of HONOUR BRIGHT, when attempting to come to the outside of that mare to improve.
Race 4:VEOLIA WATER SERVICES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1050 M
THROWIN SHADE: Began awkwardly, shifted out bumping BOOMING FAST, which then bumped FRAMED IT, unbalancing that filly.
BOOMING FAST: Bumped at the start. Inconvenienced near the 900m.
PADAM PADAM: Began awkwardly. Race wide without cover for the majority.
EXPOSITION: Slow to begin. When racing keenly approaching the 400m, steadied and shifted out across the heels of ZELEZNY to obtain clear running.
PEARL IN HAY: Near the 900m was awkwardly placed on the heels of FRAMED IT and steadied.
ZELEZNY: Raced wide without cover for the majority.
FRAMED IT: Bumped at the start becoming unbalanced.
Race 5:VEOLIA ENERGY SERVICES BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1050 M
I AM VOODOO: Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover for the majority.
UCHI: Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover for the majority. Laid out from the 500m until near the 300m.
GHOST HUNTER: Near the 500m, shifted out after being bumped by COSMIC SERENADE.
BETTER THAN BOOZE: Laid out rounding the home turn and in the straight.
KING KRYPTOS: Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being fractious in the stalls. When disappointed for a run approaching the 300m, steadied and shifted in across the heels of COSMIC SERENADE, to obtain a clear running.
SAY WHEN SUTTY: Began awkwardly. Passing the 900m was awkwardly placed close to the heels of I AM VOODOO, when racing tight to the inside of UCHI (App D. Bennett). D. Bennett was advised to exercise more care.
Race 6: VEOLIA INDUSTRIAL SERVICES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1540 M
RICH FLEX: After arriving on course, underwent a veterinary examination, was found to have a laceration to its near foreleg and not fit to start. Subsequently, the gelding was withdrawn at 2:53pm. Trainer R. Singleton was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness is required for the gelding prior to racing again.
SEEYA LATER GATER: Began awkwardly.
AIKAU (NZ): Began Awkwardly. App J. Williams reported the gelding was not suited by the fast early tempo of the race and was found wanting over the concluding stages of the distance of today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
WINDFLOWER: Shortly after the start was bumped by WINDY WHEELS.
SHORT APPROACH: Raced wide without cover in the early to middle stages. Rider M. Murphy reported the mare travelled well until approaching the 400m but did not respond to his riding and eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M. Wilson was notified SHORT APPROACH will be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
WINDY WHEELS: Raced wide without cover from 700m.
TANGO SPIRIT (NZ): Got its head up on leaving the gates. Approaching the 800m when racing tight to the inside of AIKAU (NZ) (App J. Williams), brushed the rail and became unbalanced. App J. Williams was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Had difficulty obtaining a clear run in the early part of the home straight when tight to the inside of COCO JEWEL.
SISTINE CHAPEL: Whilst parading behind the gates was found to have obvious blood in its mouth, underwent a veterinary examination and was a late withdrawal at 3:42pm.
Race 7: VEOLIA REMEDIATION SERVICES BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1540 M
SIERRA DE GREDOS (NZ): Approaching the 1300m when being restrained, got its head up and shifted out across the heels of COME ON EILEEN, resulting in YOU AND I (NZ) being checked and carried wider and STEP ON FIRE carried wider. Approaching the 1200m shifted out abruptly from the heels of AVOID THE MISSTRES inconveniencing STEP ON FIRE. Eased down from the 500m and near the 300m collapsed, giving Rider D. Peisley a harmless fall. The gelding was found deceased on arrival by the veterinary surgeon. Post-mortem samples were taken from SIERRA DE GREDOS (NZ).
CAPITAL BOSS: Began awkwardly.
MISS SHU (NZ: Raced keenly in the early stages and approaching the 1200m laid out. Rider M. Cahill reported the mare travelled well but laid out around the home turn and in the straight and was disappointing.
CHERBOURG: Had difficulty obtaining a clear running from the 500m until passing the 400m.
PRIMARY WITNESS: Slow into stride.
STEP ON FIRE: Approaching the 1300m carried wider. Inconvenienced approaching the 1200m.
YOU AND I (NZ): Began awkwardly. Checked approaching the 1300m and carried wider. Clipped heels and blundered badly near the 200m. Bumped heavily with COME ON EILEEN near the 200m.
COME ON EILEEN: Bumped heavily by YOU AND I (NZ) near the 200m.
AVOID THE MISSTRES: Raced wide without cover from the 1200m. App J. Hampson reported the mare raced keenly and consequently more forward than anticipated. She added the mare also hung out throughout.
Apprentice C. Sutherland (CHERBOURG) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift out near the 200m, when not clear of YOU AND I (NZ), resulting the gelding being tightened for room between MISS SHU (NZ) and CHERBOURG, with YOU AND I (NZ) clipping the heels of CHERBOURG, blundering badly and bumping COME ON EILEEN. In issuing the charge, Stewards acknowledged there was a slight shift in from MISS SHU in the incident. Apprentice C. Sutherland’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, commencing midnight Sunday, 15th September and concluding midnight Thursday, 26th September 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered his guilty plea, very good record, his status as an apprentice and the careless riding guidelines.
