GENERAL

Registered stable hand A MORGAN pleaded guilty to a charge under AR81A(part ii) for submitting a urine sample during a track work session at the Gold Coast Turf Club on 21 March 2000 which was found to be positive to cannabis. A MORGAN had his track work rider registration suspended for a period of 3 months to commence on 23 March 2000 and to expire midnight 23 June 2000.

Registered track work rider D BENNETT pleaded guilty to a charge under AR81A(part ii) for submitting a urine sample during a track work session at the Gold Coast Turf Club on 21 March 2000 which was found to be positive to cannabis. D BENNETT had his privilege to ride track work suspended for a period of 4 months to commence on 23 March 2000 and to expire midnight 23 July 2000.

Both parties were advised under the provisions of AR81A(part iv) that they must submit a negative urine sample prior to making application to be registered.

RACE 1 – JIM BEAM BLACK MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,800 METRES

On jumping OUR ANGEL shifted in and made heavy contact with RHYTHMIC GREY.

RHYTHMIC GREY made the home turn extremely wide.

Inside the 400 metres ANOTHER ROAD was checked to avoid the heels of FORMATIVE.

Near the 300 metres ANOTHER ROAD shifted out abruptly to improve making contact with OUR ANGEL and subsequently forced that horse wider on the track.

For a major part of the home straight L HILL (ELECTION DAY) was placed at a distinct disadvantage when his saddle rolled and was subsequently unable to ride his mount out in his normal manner.

Over the concluding stages ELECTION DAY shifted out forcing VERBITO out across the heels of DRAGONVILLE resulting in VERBITO having to be eased.

RACE 2 – SOUTHPORT WORKERS CLUB (THREE-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES

On jumping OVER REACTION and EMERALD PRINCE made heavy contact.

As a result of OVER REACTION hanging out CREATIONS was forced much wider on the home turn.

G DOUGHTY (MARCEAU ROAD) reported that for some distance inside the 300 metres he had difficulty in obtaining clear running.

Inside the final 200 metres CIRCO shifted out on at least two occasions to obtain clear running and in doing so forced IMPOSITION wider on the track.

Near the 100 metres BELZERO obtained a doubtful run between INTENTIONS and EXTREME RED which then shifted ground inwards. This caused INTENTIONS to be checked severely. In all the circumstances no direct action was taken however, Jockey L HILL was advised to ensure there is sufficient room when attempting runs.

When questioned regarding the performance of OVER REACTION today Jockey A COWIE explained that it was his intention to position his mount off the speed however, it commenced to over-race and he elected to go forward. He said that leaving the 800 metres his mount hung out quite severely for the remainder of the race and was unable to place his mount under pressure at any stage. Trainer M TREMBLE was advised that OVER REACTION would be required to perform in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards along with a veterinary certificate of fitness before it is permitted to race again.

BELZERO lost its off fore plate in running.

RACE 3 – SURFERS PARADISE RSL SUB-BRANCH SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES 2YO HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

BOSSY LADY was fractious in the barriers and then jumped very awkwardly losing considerable ground.

SOVEREIGN SQUAW also jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

When questioned regarding the manner in which DASH FOR COVER was ridden today, Jockey S GALLOWAY explained that he was instructed to ride his mount quieter than normal. He said that after obtaining a position one off the fence he was obliged to steady his mount to avoid the heels of MINER’S UNION which was racing greenly, however, from the 800 metres his mount failed to respond when placed under pressure. Mr B CAMPBELL, the representative for Trainer Mrs G WATERHOUSE, confirmed the instructions and advised that the gelding may require blinkers. A veterinary examination of DASH FOR COVER after the race revealed a minor laceration to the right lip.

RACE 4 – GOLD COAST EARTHMOVING (CLASS 2) HANDICAP – 900 METRES

Near the 700 metres MAJUBA lost ground when being restrained off the heels of TRENDY .

Leaving the 200 metres FRENCH TOAST had to be steadied and shifted out when disappointed for clear running between TRENDY GUY and MADELINE.

Inside the final 150 metres of the race NO SHOW was unable to obtain clear running and as a result went to the finishing line not fully tested.

RACE 5 – SOUTHPORT RSL CLUB SUB-BRANCH (COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

On jumping BACCHANTES and CHIEF SURGEON made heavy contact.

KING’S CARREL raced wide throughout. A veterinary examination of KING’S CARREL after the race revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 6 – GOLD COAST LEGACY CLUB (FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

MISS CORTONA was slowly away.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason why both MISS CORTONA and ANCORA FILA fell near the 200 metres. Stewards questioned L HILL (JANE JETSON), T DUCKETT (MADAME D’ALBRET) and A BAKER who was dislodged from ANCORA FILA. As M BENNETT who was dislodged from MISS CORTONA was not fit to give evidence, the matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

As a result of this incident GENERAL NATIVE and IT’S LIKE THAT which were following were checked severely to avoid the fallen horses.

The club’s veterinary surgeon reported that MISS CORTONA did not sustain any obvious injury, however, ANCORA FILA sustained fractures to the left and right sinus and also lacerations. The filly also sustained a laceration to the near fore cannon.

RACE 7 – NERANG RSL & MEMORIAL CLUB (CLASS 3) HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES

As M BENNETT had been transported to hospital for observation, M PRIVATO was substituted as the rider of DARCY DANCER in this race and S GALLOWAY was substituted as the rider of DON’T PANIC POP in Race 8.

Inside the final 200 metres JEWEL OF THE NIGHT had difficulty in obtaining clear running to the outside of DARCY DANCER and to the inside of HEART’S TREASURE.

RACE 8 – SOUTHPORT RSL CLUB WELTER – 1,300 METRES

As a result of A BAKER being dislodged in race 6, stewards permitted L HILL to be substituted as the rider of GNUSEPT.

INDY MAN was slowly away.

Leaving the 1,000 metres PRINCE PATRICK broke down in the near fore leg and was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.

D KELLY (SEALAND) reported that near the 600 metres his mount became unbalanced and lost ground after making contact with the running rail.
