GENERAL

Jockey G. DOUGHTY was fined the sum of $50.00 under AR87 for riding a horse in the precinct of the Gold Coast Turf Club on Thursday 11th May, 2000, without a skull cap.


RACE 1 – JIM BEAM HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

On jumping DREAMS ARE US was crowded for room between JENIBRIA and NAKED SPUR which shifted out.

Near the 1100 metres ROCKEDGE shifted in when not quite clear inconveniencing CALL TO HONOUR, CLAYTON GOLD, BRABINGER and CLOUD WALKER which was steadied to avoid the heels of TELKALA. L. HARRIS (ROCKEDGE) was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Near the 1000 metres DREAMS ARE US became unbalanced when making contact with the hind quarters of NAKED SPUR.

Near the 700 metres CLAYTON GOLD which was racing greenly shifted in abruptly and caused crowding to TELKALA.

Near the 200 metres SKYE KAY JOY became unbalanced and changed stride after being slapped with the whip.

HE’S A TREASURE raced very wide throughout.


RACE 2 – PALATINOS TRATTORIA HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

After being slow away CATCH STEVE shifted out making contact with the hind quarters of JETONG and as a result lost further ground.

On entering the home straight EXTRAVAGANT shifted out slightly causing SHARSHE to also shift out making contact with THE FAIRY.



Jockey A. PATTILLO (AMPLIFIED) was issued with a reprimand for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.

The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that SHOPPING pulled up lame in the off fore leg.


RACE 3 – CRAZY RON’S MOBILE PHONES HANDICAP – 900 METRES

The start of this race was delayed several minutes when STEAK AND EGGS proved difficult to load in the barriers and ROMANTIC BLUE which failed to go into the barriers. ROMANTIC BLUE was subsequently withdrawn by order of Stewards at 1.10 p.m. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on ROMANTIC BLUE were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 6 cents in the dollar for a win and 7 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket on all bets made prior to 1.10 p.m. Trainer G. Livermore was advised that ROMANTIC BLUE must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before it is permitted to race again. Trainer G. Reid was advised that in all the circumstances he must obtain another barrier certificate for STEAK AND EGGS before it is permitted to race again.

On jumping CAREFUL CHOICE shifted out and made contact with BLESS US ALL.

HUNCH was slow away.

Shortly after the start STEAK AND EGGS shifted in abruptly.

Inside the 200 metres CAREFUL CHOICE shifted out abruptly causing RANGALI to be eased.

After the winning post PETIT BOUCHER fell for no apparent reason dislodging its rider APP. T. MUTO . A Veterinary examination of the filly after the race revealed no obvious abnormality. Trainer Mrs J. Walker was advised that PETIT BOUCHER would be required to compete in a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before it is permitted to race again and that she must also submit a full Veterinary Certificate of Fitness prior to its next start.


RACE 4 – MANO’S MEDITERRANEAN RESTAURANT HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

Near the 1400 metres when the pace steadied CITIHABIT clipped the heels of MAJOR QUEST and blundered.


RACE 5 – LAKEWOODS RESIDENTIAL ESTATE HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

MISS MERLIN jumped awkwardly.

SPRING DAY raced very wide throughout.

At no stage in the home straight was CRESTED PLACE able to obtain clear running and as a result went to the line not being fully tested. A Veterinary examination of CRESTED PLACE after the race revealed no obvious abnormalities and the gelding was sent to be swabbed.



RACE 6 – CHANNEL TEN GOLD COAST MAIDEN CUP – 1400 METRES
As P. BROWN had an engagement at Doomben, Stewards permitted M. PRIVATO to be substituted as the rider of LITTLE WIZ.

Shortly after the start LITTLE WIZ and BARBARIANS had to be checked when crowded for room between GOLD HEART which was taken in by MIGHT BE and SHANNON STAR which received pressure from its inside as a result of a shift out from BETTS, which also caused some crowding to THAT DREAM and GALLISSA. In all the circumstances no direct action was taken however, A. GILLETT (MIGHT BE) was issued with a severe reprimand for failing to make a greater effort to straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.

SHANNON STAR and LIVELY LITTLE LADY were obliged to race wide throughout.


RACE 7 - BIG BOYS TYRE & WHEEL CENTRE HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

As APP. T. MUTO was ruled unfit by the Club’s Doctor Stewards permitted APP. T. HILL to be substituted as the rider of WHAT’S THE BEEF.

KNATMEG was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon prior to the start after it struck the running rail enroute to the barrier and was subsequently passed fit to start.

SWAPSEA was slow away.

For some distance leaving the 500 metres SEMIFORMAL was unable to improve when held up behind a number of runners.


RACE 8 – RETRO ADVERTISING HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

K. BELL (ROMILY STREET) was reminded of his obligations under the Rules when using the whip to excess on horses that are out of contention.

Jockey A. PATTILLO (SEEN AT SEA) reported after the race that his mount felt awkward in its action and inside the 200 metres elected to ease his mount down out of the race. A Veterinary inspection of SEEN AT SEA revealed the gelding to be in a distressed condition. The representative for Trainer A. Bailey Mrs S. Thompson was advised to notify the Stewards of any condition that the gelding may develop in the near future.


RACE 9 – WHITNEY HOUSTON’S GREATEST HANDICAP – 900 METRES

NINE WINNERS PLUS CRESTED PLACE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
