RACE 1 – INDEPENDENT FUEL SUPPLIES NERANG HANDICAP – 900 METRES
As G. COLLESS was overweight Stewards permitted D. BEADMAN to be substituted as the rider of INNOVARI. G. COLLESS was fined $200.00 under AR120(b) for accepting a ride when found to be overweight.
At the start DANCE IN THE DARK shifted out hampering ROMANTIC REGION which in turn inconvenienced INNOVARI.
RAZOR BLUE raced wide throughout.
RACE 2 – INDEPENDENT FUEL SUPPLIES WEST BURLEIGH MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
DE CANNY which was slow away was checked when crowded for room between HEAVEN’S QUEST and SCREAMING EAGLE both of which shifted ground.
Inside the 800 metres DE CANNY had to be steadied away from the heels of WINNING FRIENDS.
RACE 3 – INDEPENDENT FUEL SUPPLIES ASHMORE MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
The start of this race was delayed when GREAT WONDER became fractious in the barriers. The gelding was subsequently a late withdrawal at 1.03 p.m. acting on Veterinary advice. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on GREAT WONDER were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 28 cents in the dollar for a win and 20 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer P. Moody was advised that he must obtain another barrier certificate for GREAT WONDER before it is permitted to race again.
HORSE FEATHERS was slow away.
On jumping MAGIC STRIDE and TAIYO BAY made contact.
Leaving the 400 metres both SISTER WARRIOR and STYLISH AMBER were unable to go forward when held up for clear running until nearing the 200 metre mark.
The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that ROYAL EMPIRE sustained deep scalping wounds to both hind legs.
RACE 4 – SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND FUELS MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
Trainer F.W. Mitchell was fined $50.00 for failing to declare a rider for AMPLIFIED by the prescribed time.
On jumping MALTESE MEILEE was checked severely when crowded for room between STEAL SANCTION and IDLER which shifted out abruptly.
TABASCO GIRL was slow away.
Approaching the 400 metres MALTESE MEILEE was checked away from the heels of IDLER.
Inside the 200 metres CELESTIAL DUST shifted out under pressure and made contact with THE MIRACLE.
A Veterinary examination was ordered on DANEHILL STAR after its disappointing performance which revealed the colt to be suffering from shin soreness in both fore legs. When questioned Trainer B. McLachlan explained that whilst DANEHILL STAR had some history of shin soreness he was satisfied that there was no apparent signs of the condition going into the race. Stewards advised Trainer B. McLachlan that he must submit a Veterinary Certificate for DANEHILL STAR before it is permitted to start again. A swab sample was also taken from the colt.
RACE 5 – MARK LOWE HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
Approaching the 1000 metres VAIN AND NOBLE shifted in causing some crowding to KISS ME and ANTS, which had to be eased. In all the circumstances no direct action was taken however, D. HAYSE (VAIN AND NOBLE) was cautioned and reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
Approaching the 800 metres FOXMORE had to be restrained off the heels of CENTONA and as a result shifted out making contact with KISS ME which overraced for a short distance.
For some distance in the early stages of the home straight KISS ME was unable to obtain clear running when held up behind OUR MR. POMPEII and inside of CLAYTONS.
VAIN AND NOBLE suffered a bleeding attack from both nostrils and will now incur the mandatory A swab sample was taken from the gelding.
RACE 6 – BILL LOWE MEMORIAL HANDICAP – 1800 METRES
As A. PATTILLO was overweight Stewards permitted M. ASPINALL to be substituted as the rider of STAR SENSATION. After considering submissions made by A. PATTILLO the Stewards decided to take no further action.
EDUARDO was slow away and in the early stages was inclined to overrace.
S. KATSIDIS (BRAVE TATTLER) was reprimanded for shifting out abruptly to improve leaving the 700 metres making heavy contact with STAR SENSATION which was forced wider on the track.
Inside the 300 metres MAGIC OF MACKAY had some difficulty obtaining clear running and was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of APP. M. RODD (ADMIRAL’S LASS)
RACE 7 – INDEPENDENT FUEL SUPPLIES ROBINA HANDICAP – 1800 METRES
FRENCH MOVIE STAR jumped awkwardly and lost considerable ground.
FRENCH MOVIE STAR had difficulty in obtaining clear running in the home straight.
RACE 8 – INDEPENDENT FUEL SUPPLIES SILK STOCKING HANDICAP – 1400 METRES
Trainer G. Burns was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to declare a rider for ANNUNCIATION by the prescribed time.
The start of this race was delayed slightly when RUNS ON DREAMS was fractious in the barriers and dislodged G. BOSS. He was examined by an Ambulance officer and allowed to fulfil his commitment.
MISS CEEANNE was slow away.
Rounding the home turn FAIR DECREE which was commencing to weaken shifted in momentarily causing MISS CEEANNE, which was following to be hampered.
Shortly after the start ANNALEA got its head up and shifted in causing crowding to CEREMONIAL DANCER.
Leaving the 1000 metres ANNALEA had to be restrained to avoid the heels of ‘TIS LOVE.
In the early and middle stages of the race RUNS ON DREAMS was inclined to overrace.
RACE 9 – VEUVE CLICQUOT PONSARDIN HANDICAP – 1300 METRES
BRITANNICUS was slow away.
NINE WINNERS PLUS DANEHILL STAR AND VAIN AND NOBLE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED

Registered trackwork rider G. Courtney was reprimanded regarding his conduct towards a Club Official during training hours at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Monday the 8th January 2001.
