STEWARDS’
PANEL: MR T. BAILEY (CHAIRMAN), MR J. GRAHAM, MR J. HAIGH,
MR D. AURISCH AND MISS S. GILLESPIE (CADET)

RACE 1 – GUINNESS HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

VITNER was slow away and lost considerable ground.

Leaving the 500 metres CORNICHE BAY had a tendency to hang out and this enabled VITNER to improve to its inside.

Over the concluding stages D. TANTI (VITNER) was obliged to stop riding on several occasions when his mount had a tendency to lay in.

RACE 2 – THE MULTEMEDIA FACTORY HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

As APP. A. MORRISON was unable to fulfil his engagement on CHESHIRE MOON Stewards permitted A. BAKER to be substituted as there were no other available Apprentices. The Stewards at Eagle Farm will today interview APP. A. MORRISON as to the reason why he could not fulfil this engagement.

Trainer S. Jones was fined $50.00 for nominating CELESTIAL KISS in this particular race when it was found to be ineligible.

G. STEWART was fined $50.00 for failing to declare blinkers for RISKY DEAL which was having its first start.

CHESHIRE MOON was slow away.

Leaving the 700 metres REPSOL (N. JOLLY) which was racing very greenly shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider and this caused NUGUTANA which was following to be checked.

N. JOLLY (REPSOL) was cautioned in relation to an incident rounding the home turn where he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of RECORD BREAKER which had to be eased to avoid its heels.

Stewards interviewed Trainer S. Campbell after the race regarding the presentation of PENINSULA LADY and outlined their concerns as to the gross condition of the mare. Mr Campbell acknowledged this fact and indicated PENINSULA LADY was in need of racing and had been in work since December 2000 however, he assured Stewards he would endeavour to present PENINSULA LADY as physically fit as possible in the future.

RACE 3 – CONTACT HOUSE HANDICAP – 900 METRES

TETHYS’ TROJAN and JAR JAR BINKS missed the start.

Inside the 200 metres ACE CLUB became unbalanced and shifted out.

RACE 4 – PREFERRED IMPORTS HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

On jumping EARLWAY and POSCOH were crowded between LUBERTUS and BULL POWER both of which shifted ground.

Leaving the 800 metres MIGHTY LONGREACH hung out off the track and took no further part in the event. A Veterinary examination of MIGHTY LONGREACH revealed lacerations inside of both cheeks. Trainer B. Laming was advised that MIGHTY LONGREACH must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before it is permitted to race again.

Stewards questioned C. WHITELEY the rider of EARLWAY with regard to its disappointing performance today and he advised that his mount had struck interference at the start and in the early stages he was shuffled back further than he would have liked when the pace steadied in front of him. He added that leaving the 600 metres he was forced wide by LUBERTUS and from this point was under pressure. He further added that in his opinion EARLWAY failed to handle today’s track conditions. A Veterinary examination of EARLWAY revealed the gelding to be suffering from scalping wounds to the near fore and off hind legs and also was in quite a distressed state. Trainer A. Bailey was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would have to be submitted before it is permitted to race again.

N. JOLLY reported after the race that he was unable to ride his mount BOULEVARDE BEAU in his normal manner as it had a tendency to hang out.

RACE 5 – IVORY’S IRISH (STALLION) HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

APP. D. WHEELER (DELICE) was fined $100.00 for returning to scale in excess of a ½ kilo over his declared weight.

On jumping BANKER’S PRAYER, PLAY and DELICE were all severely crowded between HYSTERICAL BOSS (APP. D. EVANS) which shifted out and also STYLISH AMBER (D. TANTI) which shifted in despite the efforts of their respective riders.

Shortly after the start THE FOXAT lost ground after being taken out by ALIANA JOY and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of IMPOSING SAL.

Inside the 200 metres THE FOXAT had difficulty in obtaining clear running.

A Veterinary examination of PLAY was ordered after it performed disappointingly which revealed a laceration to the off fore leg and the mare was also sent to be swabbed.

RACE 6 – FRIENDS OF THE ABUSED CHILD TRUST HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

MISS DE BEERS got its head up at the start and lost considerable ground.

NEW SHOES was slow away.

RACE 7 – VEGAS IN PARADISE HANDICAP - 1800 METRES

In the early stages SCRUTINY raced ungenerously.

RACE 8 – GOLD COAST AIRPORT LTD HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

Jockey A. COWIE was dislodged from BARBARIANS during the preliminary, was ruled unfit to ride and as C. WHITELY was the only available rider he was substituted with permission to ride 2 kilos over.

Leaving the 1200 metres the saddle slipped forward on AWESOME WEATHER and this placed APP. P. HAMMERSLEY at a distinct disadvantage for the remainder of the race and he was subsequently unable to put his mount under any pressure.

EIGHT WINNERS PLUS PLAY WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
