MISS SMUGG which was slow to jump was hampered as a result of DARLING AQUA shifting ground shortly after the start.

Approaching the 800 metres SET OF BELLS which was inclined to race greenly shifted in despite the efforts of its rider tightening LUSKIN DREAMS causing that horse to be checked and lose ground. CUDDLIN which was following was hampered.

Near the 700 metres OBLIGE which was racing in restricted room inside of LA GUARDIA, struck the running rail and became unbalanced as a result of LA GUARDIA shifting in momentarily. A. BAKER (LA GUARDIA) was severely reprimanded and instructed to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.

The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that LUSKIN DREAMS had sustained a laceration to the near hind as a consequence of being galloped on.

LUSKIN DREAMS also cast a near hind plate in running.

RACE 3 – ROB MCGOWN THOROUGHBREDS HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

SPRING CREEK jumped into the barrier partition and lost valuable ground at the start. B. SWANTON the rider of SPRING CREEK reported that as a result of the horse jumping awkwardly he had injured his right knee when it struck the barriers. B. SWANTON further explained that due to the extent of the injury he was unable to position his horse satisfactorily in the race and the horse raced wide for the majority of the race. B. SWANTON was examined by the Club Doctor and advised to forego his remaining ride.

Approaching the 1000 metres MR. CHRISTEN became unbalanced when it made contact with PRINCE BROCCO as a result of racing in restricted room inside of CANADIAN TIME.

MR. CHRISTEN was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and for a major part of the straight.

RACE 4 – VODKA CRUISER HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

TOTSUKA was slow to jump.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by M. BENNETT the rider of DELELISE which finished third against
KNATMEG (D. HAYSE) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 100 metres. After hearing evidence it was established that M. BENNETT had to check DELELISE when attempting a doubtful run near the 100 metres and Stewards were not satisfied that the degree of interference had affected the result and the protest was dismissed.

Stewards also considered an objection lodged by D. TANTI the rider of MISSY FLANDERS which finished second against KNATMEG (D. HAYSE) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 100 metres. After considering the evidence Stewards considered that whilst KNATMEG had shifted ground they were not satisfied that the interference warranted the placings being amended and the protest was dismissed.

At a subsequent enquiry it was ascertained that whilst M. BENNETT (DELELISE) was attempting a doubtful run between KNATMEG and MISSY FLANDERS, KNATMEG shifted out when its hindquarters were brushed by DELELISE.

RACE 5 – GOLD COAST CITY CUP HANDICAP – 1400 METRE

After travelling a short distance NO OPTION had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between PYFO and EXCALIBUR.

M. SMITH-LESTER (SILENT ASSASSIN) was cautioned and whilst it was felt THE KILDARE KID may have overreacted M. SMITH-LESTER was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to give sufficient room when crossing.

Shortly after straightening INVESTITURE shifted out to improve and bumped PYFO.

THE KILDARE KID and PYFO were both held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

Stewards intend to interview Trainer R. Lipp at a suitable time in relation to the late notification of A. BAKER as the rider of CAMPASSIA.

An enquiry was opened into the reason for T. IKENUSHI falling near the 800 metres. As T. IKENUSHI was transported to Pindarra Hospital the enquiry was adjourned until a date and time to be fixed.
