SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As jockey M. Rice was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted rider changes as per the Stewards Raceday Summary.
Race 1: Renew Your Membership 2007/2008 Maiden H’Cap – 1200m.
1st – Superintendent 2nd – Emotions 3rd – Cool Edge 4th – Carthaginian
As N. Day was late on course due to transport difficulties stewards permitted D. Tanti to be substituted as the rider of PATTI.
CARTHAGINIAN (T. Treichel) and SILVER PEGASUS (D. Griffin) came together and brushed on jumping away.
ELECTRIC (M. Heagney) overraced in the early stages of the event.
Approaching the 900m SILVER PEGASUS became awkward on the heels of CARTHAGINIAN and shifted in making contact with the running rail and as a result shifted back out causing COOL EDGE (C. Small), ELECTRIC and EMOTIONS (C. Whiteley) all to be steadied.
Near the 150m EMOTIONS and SUPERINTENDENT (App M. Palmer) came together and brushed as a result of both horses shifting ground.
Race 2: Happy 60th Birthday Peter Sandford QTIS 2YO Maiden H’Cap – 1000m.
1st – Rapid Jacko 2nd – Borsha’s Mark 3rd – Visually 4th - Revindicate
VISUALLY (App M. Palmer) was slow to begin.
BORSHA’S MARK (G. Palmer) and RAPID JACKO (App J. Clarke) brushed on jumping away.
Approaching the 800m REVINDICATE (D. Griffin) had to be steadied off the heels of BORSHA’S MARK which shifted out taking WHISTLE (D. Tanti) wider. AILISH (D. Green) and LARINDI (T. Treichel) which were following had to be steadied as a consequence.
Race 3: Year Of The Lifesaver QTIS 2YO Maiden H’Cap – 1000m.
1st – Amex Gold 2nd – Unconquerable 3rd – Shealma 4th – Just A Glamour
BIRTSBOOTS (M. Heagney) was inspected prior to the start of the race by the Club’s veterinary surgeon after the horse reared in the barrier stalls and was passed fit to start.
UNCONQUERABLE (D. Griffin) and JUST A GLAMOUR (T. Treichel) were tightened on jumping away between I SEA MAGIC (M. Traecey) and SHEALMA (D. Tanti) both of which shifted ground.
TROUBLES FORGOTTEN (C. Small) was slow into stride.
Near the 800m UNCONQUERABLE improved up onto the heels of BIRTSBOOTS and had to be steadied. UNCONQUERABLE continued to overrace on the heels of BIRTSBOOTS until near the 500m.
TROUBLES FORGOTTEN was caught racing wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 600m I SEA MAGIC which had a tendency to hang out was tightened for room when racing on the inside of BIRTSBOOTS which was inclined to lay in.
Race 4: Combined Surf Life Saving Clubs Of the Gold Coast 3YO Maiden H’Cap – 1400m.
1st – Iza Bad 2nd – Xaareal 3rd – Idyllic Danehill 4th – Little Imp
SECRET SOCIETY (T. Pannell) was slow to begin.
IDYLLIC DANEHILL (M. Heagney) was caught racing wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding his riding tactics on CHINESE WALL over the final 300m jockey D. Craven explained that the horse was having difficulty with the prevailing track conditions and was under pressure near the home turn. He added that although he eased the horse wide on the track he felt that at the 200m it was a better option to move the horse back towards the inside as he felt runners in front of him were shifting ground. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 5: Coke Side Of Life Class 4 H’Cap – 1400m.
1st – Can Man 2nd – Crackenback 3rd – Canadian Twilight 4th – Kaindara Gold
WHATEVER IT TAKES (App M. Hackett) and CANADIAN TWILIGHT (M. Heagney) were both slow to begin.
NEHEMIAH (App S. Bogenhuber) was caught racing wide for the majority of the event.
CANADIAN TWILIGHT was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WHATEVER IT TAKES App M. Hackett advised that he was concerned with the horse’s action during the event. A postrace veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a small laceration to the off hind leg. Trainer B. Guy’s representative advised that in his opinion the horse failed to handle the prevailing track conditions but advised stewards it would be the intention of connections to have a thorough veterinary examination in the next 48 hours. Stewards noted the explanation and advised the stable representative to advise stewards of any abnormality that may be detected.
Race 6: Mount Franklin Class 2 H’Cap – 1200m.
1st – Yass River 2nd – Scenic Rule 3rd – Orpen Rose 4th – Eve Angelene
SILVER MOUNTAIN (App S. Bogenhuber) and STORMY SEQUALO (S. Richardson) came together and bumped on jumping away.
EVE ANGELENE (T. Pannell) was slow to begin.
D. Griffin the rider of IMPETUS was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 1000m point resulting in SCENIC RULE (App M. Palmer) having to be steadied.
FORCE OF LOVE (N. Day) overraced in the early stages of the event and approaching the 800m shifted out across the heels of IMPETUS (D. Griffin). FORCE OF LOVE raced wide for the remainder of the event.
ORPEN ROSE (T. Treichel) was inclined to shift out under pressure over the final 200m.
Race 7: Powerade Class 1 H’Cap 1400m.
1st – Bringelly 2nd – Red Abernant 3rd – Two Seasons 4th – Father Dex
BRINGELLY (App W. Pearson) was slow to begin.
STEELY DAN (M. Heagney) and JUST A THIEF (M. Traecey) came together on jumping away which resulted in JUST A THIEF shifting out making contact with ROCK ‘N’ RUN (App J. Clarke), which in turn shifted out and made contact with POST ON TYNE (T. Treichel).
CRYSTAL GAYZA (D. Barron) was caught racing wide for the majority of the event.
Approaching the 400m RED ABERNANT (App J. Jones) faulted when the horse clipped the heels of STEELY DAN.
POST ON TYNE (T. Treichel) yielded ground badly over the final 300m. A postrace veterinary examination of POST ON TYNE revealed the gelding to be in a stressed condition with muscle tremors and sore in the near hind leg. Trainer M. Thexton was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before the horse races again.
Race 8: Goulburn Valley To Go H’Cap – 1800m.
1st – Wheel The Lead 2nd – Tinybow 3rd – Concitare 4th – Active Combat
WHEEL THE LEAD (M. Heagney) and ACTIVE COMBAT (M. Traecey) were slow to begin.
BATTLE AT SEA (S. Richardson) overraced in the early stages.
ACTIVE COMBAT was momentarily held up for clear running on straightening.
Race 9: Coca-Cola Amatil Class 2 H’Cap – 1800m.
1st – Laila’s Dream 2nd – Harry’s Choice 3rd – Harlin 4th – What About Brownie
Stewards approved late rider changes for MAKALU (T. Pannell) and THE POSTMASTER (T. Treichel). After considering the explanation of trainers P. Facoory and A. Martelli respectively, stewards took no further action as they considered there were mitigating circumstances.
HARLIN (C. Whiteley) began awkwardly.
TORNADO BLITZ (App M. Palmer) and OZJURIA (M. Traecey) were slow to begin.
FORTUNATUS FIDELIS (App S. Bogenhuber) was tightened on jumping away between PARAP (App W. Pearson) and BELTINSKI (D. Tanti) which shifted out.
WHAT ABOUT BROWNIE (App O. Turpin) raced wide in the early and middle stages.
TORNADO BLITZ was momentarily held up for clear running on straightening.
Approaching the 100m TORNADO BLITZ was placed in restricted room and had to be steadied between HARRY’S CHOICE (M. Heagney) and FORTUNATUS FIDELIS both of which shifted ground.
