Race 1: Kelmac Homes 3yo & Up Maiden H’cap – 1000m.
1st – Hilda Street Girl 2nd – Impulsivedane 3rd – Rautai’s Idol 4th – Desert Bloom

Shortly after the start IMPULSIVEDANE (T Treichel) shifted out taking YEAR LONG (W Pearson) out resulting in FLIRTEN (App. M McDonald) striking the heels of YEAR LONG and blundering.

FLIRTEN over-raced in the middle stages of the event.

RAUTAI’S IDOL (N Day) raced greenly when placed under pressure in the straight.

Race 2: Lockhart Auto Centre QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m.
1st – Unconquerable 2nd – Periander 3rd – Treasure Mountain 4th - Howgoodsthat

Prior to declaring ‘correct weight’, Stewards considered an application from App. M Speers the rider of LIBERTY MIST to have that horse declared a non-runner on the grounds of being denied a fair start. After taking evidence from App. Speers and viewing the patrol films Stewards were satisfied that LIBERTY MIST had been slow to begin due to being fractious prior to the start being effected and therefore declared that filly a runner. Correct weight was subsequently declared.

IRISH CROSS (W Pearson) and LAURINEL BEAUTY (N Evans) were slow to begin.

UNCONQUERABLE (B Stewart) and TREASURE MOUNTAIN (D Green) made contact shortly after the start.

Approaching the 800m LIBERTY MIST, when over-racing, improved into a position between IRISH CROSS and LAURINEL BEAUTY where there was doubtful room and had to be steadied.

IRISH CROSS raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event.

LAURINEL BEAUTY raced wide for the majority of the event.

Near the 600m IRISH CROSS improved up on to the heels of JESSIE STREET (M Heagney) and had to be steadied. At the same stage UNCONQUERABLE improved up on to the heels of TREASURE MOUNTAIN and had to be steadied.

Leaving the 400m IRISH CROSS laid out momentarily and had to be steadied off the heels of LAURINEL BEAUTY.

Jockey E Wilkinson the rider of HOWGOODSTHAT was found guilty of a charge under AR137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. Jockey Wilkinson was fined the sum of $200.

Race 3: Southport Sharks Australian Football Rules Club Maiden Plate – 1800m.
1st – Moon Quest 2nd – Gods Rival 3rd – Ten Coronas 4th – Capo Di Capi

A pre-race examination of MALKOVICH which had been kicked on the chest was passed fit to start.

TWINKLING STAR (T Treichel) was slow to begin.

RESURRECTED (App. L Rolls) and MONTARE (W Pearson) made contact on jumping away.

A short distance after the start CAPO DI CAPI (T Pannell) shifted out making contact with MONTARE which in turn shifted out and made contact with RESURRECTED which shifted out and bumped MALKOVICH (E Wilkinson).

MALKOVICH raced fiercely approaching the 1400m turn and as a result shifted out across the heels of KINGKOBEN (App. S Holcombe) and had to be checked. MALKOVICH was then obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 400m MALKOVICH had to be steadied off the heels of MONTARE which shifted out slightly.

Jockey T Treichel (TWINKLING STAR) accidentally dropped his whip at the 300m.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of MOON QUEST, Trainer H Wilson stated that in his opinion the horse is one paced and appreciated being able to dictate terms in the lead today. Mr Wilson further added that although able to lead last start, he was of the opinion that the slow tempo during the middle stages resulted in a sprint home which did not suit MOON QUEST on that occasion. His explanation was noted.

A post race veterinary examination of DREAM FIGURE (A Erhart) which finished a distant last failed to reveal any abnormality. Connections advised that they plan to spell DREAM FIGURE immediately.

Race 4: Lea Insurance Brokers QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap – 900m.
1st – Crevasse 2nd – Fille De Neige 3rd – Many Talents 4th – Trail of Secrets

FARRAR STREET (A Nicholls), SIR REASON (J W Stanley) and BISCAYS BEST (E Wilkinson) were slow to begin.

Leaving the 700m CARACEEA (D Tanti) which had commenced to hang in, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider resulting in FARRAR STREET having to be checked to avoid that horse’s heels. Trainer N Strong was advised that a warning would be placed on CARACEEA regarding its racing manners.

FILLE DE NEIGE (N Thomas) hung out from leaving the 600m until leaving the 350m.

Near the 150m MANY TALENTS (App. L Rolls) shifted out under pressure resulting in TRAIL OF SECRETS (M Morris) having to be steadied and alter course.

Race 5: Quality Tanks Class 2 H’cap – 1000m.
1st – Patties Mate 2nd – Gypsy Violin 3rd – Disintegrate 4th – Our Babe Gemma

LEINSTER LAD (D Tanti) was tightened for room on jumping away between PRINCE OF YODELLS (W Pearson) which jumped inwards and HOLLOW MOUNTAIN (T Treichel) which was taken out by DISINTEGRATE (D Green).

DISINTEGRATE, LAMARK (W Clasohm) and HOLLOW MOUNTAIN raced wide throughout the event.

GYPSY VIOLIN (App. L Dittman) hung out rounding the first turn.

Near the 400m PRINCE OF YODELLS had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between HOLLOW MOUNTAIN and LEINSTER LAD which shifted out to improve.

GYPSY VIOLIN shifted in when placed under pressure near the 200m.

Race 6: Jeff Hannaford (Chartered Accountant) & Professional Investment Services Pty Ltd Class 4 H’cap – 1200m.

Near the 800m ASKEW (App. K Yeung) and WIRELESS (K Purdy) made contact on several occasions.

EBONY LAD (W Clasohm) and CRACKENBACK (D Tanti) raced wide throughout the event.

Near the 450m App. L Rolls rider of MONTERRICO lost the use of his near side rein. A short distance later MONTERRICO commenced to hang out and continued to shift ground outwards in the home straight. Trainer M Eggleston explained that MONTERRICO had shown a tendency to lay out previously and undertook to engage a senior rider in future. In the circumstances Stewards took no action.

Race 7: Insurance and General Brokers Old Bastards Cup Class 2 H’cap – 1800m.
1st – Ultimate Gold 2nd – Teletor 3rd – Hopeson 4th – Flood Hero

A pre-race veterinary examination of UNREQUITED which broke through the running rail was passed fit to start.

FLOOD HERO (D Tanti) was slow to begin.

ENCHELLE (D Green) jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start ENCHELLE, HOPESON (App. L Dittman) and BEAU SAM (T Treichel) were all tightened for room between IN NO DANGER (App. L Rolls) which shifted out and ULTIMATE GOLD (W Pearson) which was taken in by VEREKER STREET (App. K Yeung).

SIGNAL (N Day), HOPESON and ENCHELLE all made the 1400m turn awkwardly.

Near the 300m BEAU SAM was disappointed for a run between UNREQUITED (G Baker) and VEREKER STREET which shifted in slightly. BEAU SAM was then held up until approaching the 200m.

Near the 350m THE BRAVE ONE (T Pannell) had to steady off the heels of IN NO DANGER when that horse shifted out to improve. App. L Rolls (IN NO DANGER) was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is fully clear when shifting ground in future.

SIGNAL shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages tightening the running of BEAU SAM.
