SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
Race 1: Queensland Events Magic Millions 3YO & Up Maiden Plate – 1200m.
1st – Mr Unforgettable 2nd – Richart 3rd – Swinging To Win 4th – Swirly Dream
UNINTENTIONAL (K. Pope) was slow to begin.
CATWALK STRUT (J. Taylor) was a little slow to begin.
IDENTIFY (P. Wolfgram) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with RICHART (J. Byrne).
Shortly after the start EDUCATED (D. Griffin) which was inclined to lay in and away from SWIRLY DREAM (J. Winks) shifted in making heavy contact with ENCOSTA TSZYU (C. Lindop) which in turn shifted in and bumped JUDGE ME FAIR (J. Holder).
Passing the 1000m VISUALLY (A. Pattillo) commenced to overrace and near the 900m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between CATWALK STRUT and GENERAL CONSPIRACY (D. Nikolic) which shifted in. VISUALLY then continued to overrace for some distance.
GENERAL CONSPIRACY overraced in the middle stages.
ENCOSTA TSZYU and JUDGE ME FAIR raced wide throughout.
DISTINCTIVE LASS (C. Williams) had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the straight.
Approaching the 300m VISUALLY had to be steadied when tightened for room between RICHART which shifted out slightly and GENERAL CONSPIRACY which shifted in after being held up behind GOLD LAND (K. Wharton). D. Nikolic the rider of GENERAL CONSPIRACY was reprimanded.
Race 2: Marriott Magic Millions Stayers Cup – 1800m.
1st – Drizzle 2nd – Nellie Got There 3rd – Showify 4th – Tackman
Prior to the announcement of correct weight jockey C. Brown the rider of second placegetter NELLIE GOT THERE exercised his right to view the video footage to establish if he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner DRIZZLE (L. Nolen). C. Brown declined his opportunity to lodge an objection.
LATIN IDOL (A. Pattillo) was slow to begin.
RAPID REASON (App M. Radecker) was forced to race wide in the early stages.
Leaving the 200m NELLIE GOT THERE after initially being taken out by DRIZZLE continued to shift out and away from DRIZZLE tightening the running of REBOUNDED (B. Pengelly) which had to be steadied when tightened between SHOWIFY (G. Colless) and NELLIE GOT THERE. L. Nolen the rider of DRIZZLE was reprimanded for failing to straighten his mount when it commenced to shift ground leaving the 200m and furthermore although acknowledging NELLIE GOT THERE had a tendency to shift away from DRIZZLE reprimanded C. Brown for failing in his obligation to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Race 3: Heinrich Group Magic Millions 2YO Plate – 1200m.
1st – Sharufa 2nd – Judge Me Not 3rd – Hyde Park 4th – Flying Topaze
MR ORIENT (A. Pattillo) and COUNTY TALE (B. Pengelly) were tightened on jumping away between REVE D’OR (J. Byrne) and KIRRA LYN (A. Best) which shifted out after jumping away awkwardly.
TUSCON RAIN (D. Griffin) was slow to begin.
STELLAR SHOW (P. Wolfgram) jumped in at the start and made contact with FIVEGRAND (K. Forrester).
Passing the 800m TUSCON RAIN raced up onto the heels of KINESIS KISS (K. Wharton) and had to be steadied.
KIRRA LYN was forced to race wide throughout.
S. Scriven rider of HYDE PARK was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for allowing his mount to shift in near the 800m taking FLYING TOPAZE (H. Bowman) in resulting in ESTRELLITO (C. Lindop) having to be checked to avoid the heels of FLYING TOPAZE. S. Scriven’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine (9) meetings to commence midnight 24 March 2008 and to expire midnight 16 April 2008.
S. Scriven pleaded guilty to a further charge of careless riding in that rounding the home turn he permitted HYDE PARK to shift outwards and make heavy contact with COLLISION COURSE (G. Colless) resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced. S. Scriven’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eleven (11) meetings to commence midnight 24 March 2008 and to expire midnight 16 April 2008. Stewards ordered that this suspension be served concurrently with the suspension obtained earlier in the race. In addition S. Scriven was fined the sum of $500.00.
A post race veterinary examination of COLLISION COURSE revealed the gelding had pulled up lame in the near fore leg. Trainer A Bailey was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to starting again.
Race 4: R.M. Williams Magic Millions Sprint – 1000m.
1st – Sir Monashee 2nd – Kaphero 3rd – Charmana Star 4th – Diamonds Am I
ROYAL HERO which had not competed for the last 2 years was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
LENNON (J. Byrne) which kicked the rear barrier gates was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
ACCELERATION (P. Wolfgram) cast a near fore plate and required attention from the farrier prior to the start.
Race 5: Paspaley Magic Millions Fillies & Mares H’Cap – 1300m.
1st – Bareena 2nd – Jumaana 3rd – Satsang 4th – Superfly
NASRULLAH’S GIRL (S. Scriven) jumped away awkwardly.
JUMAANA (G. Colless) and EVILWEB (H. Bowman) came together on jumping away.
NASRULLAH’S GIRL overraced in the early stages.
NASRULLAH’S GIRL raced wide throughout.
BAREENA (J. Byrne) shifted out to obtain clear running rounding the home turn and in doing so forced EVILWEB wider on the track.
JUMAANA had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ANGEL GIRL jockey D. Nikolic could offer no explanation other than in his opinion the mare may be suited to racing outside of other horses. Trainer G. Ryan could also offer no explanation for today’s performance and stated that the horse had travelled up from Sydney well. A post race veterinary examination of ANGEL GIRL revealed the horse was sore in both fore legs. Trainer G Ryan was advised the mare would require a vet clearance prior to starting again.
A post race veterinary examination of EVILWEB failed to reveal any abnormality.
Race 6: $1 Million Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions 3YO Trophy – 1400m.
1st – Heart Of The Citi 2nd – Wind Shear 3rd – Absolut Glam 4th – Cent Per Cent
ABSOLUT GLAM which was lame following it’s previous start was examined by Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
HEART OF THE CITI (B. Pengelly) was tightened on jumping away between PEPPERWOOD (G. Colless) and LADY SHOWHEART (P. Wolfgram).
CARRY ON DOCTOR (J. Taylor) and MISTRESS OF DREAMS (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.
TOSSTESTAROAN (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 1300m MISTRESS OF DREAMS had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of HEART OF THE CITI which shifted in. B. Pengelly the rider of HEART OF THE CITI was reprimanded.
C. Lindop the rider of TOSSTESTAROAN was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1200m she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CAJOU (D. Nikolic) resulting in that horse being taken in onto the hind quarters of CARRY ON DOCTOR. As a result of that contact CARRY ON DOCTOR shifted out resulting in CAJOU having to be checked. C. Lindop’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of ten (10) meetings to commence midnight Saturday 29 March 2008 and expire midnight Wednesday 16 April 2008. In addition C. Lindop was fined the sum of $1,000.00.
Near the 1000m CARRY ON DOCTOR after receiving pressure from TOSSTESTAROAN shifted in making contact with ABSOLUT GLAM (S. King). A short distance later ABSOLUT GLAM shifted in and away from CARRY ON DOCTOR and in doing so made heavy contact with the running rail, losing considerable ground. HEART OF THE CITI which was following had to check and shifted out abruptly tightening CAJOU onto CONQUERING SPIRIT (D. Griffin). In this incident CAJOU had to be checked.
MALAMBO (P. Robl) raced wide throughout.
Rounding the home turn HEART OF THE CITI shifted out to improve around the heels of CENT PER CENT (C. Williams) and in doing so made contact with CARRY ON DOCTOR.
CENT PER CENT had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the straight.
Shortly after entering the straight CONQUERING SPIRIT shifted out and brushed CAJOU .
Near the 150m LASSIE MACTAVISH (S. Galloway) was impeded by TOSSTESTAROAN which shifted in when weakening.
B. Pengelly the rider of HEART OF THE CITI was fined the sum of $500.00 under AR137(c) in that he made a celebratory gesture prior to passing the finishing post.
A post race veterinary examination of TOSSTESTAROAN revealed the gelding to be sore in the near fore tendon. Trainer L McDonald was advised the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to starting again.
A post race veterinary examination revealed WIND SHEAR (S. Baster) had sustained a minor laceration to the near fore cannon.
A post race veterinary examination of CAJOU failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 7: BMW Magic Millions Cup – 1400m.
1st – Theseo 2nd – Upilio 3rd – Five Ways 4th - Mitanni
P. Robl was fined the sum of $300.00 for failing to fulfil his engagement on KANETOSHI MILLIONS due to being overweight.
On jumping FIVE WAYS (D. Nikolic) was tightened between KANETOSHI MILLIONS (A. Spinks) and MASTER DENIS (S. Galloway) which shifted out.
EASILY DONE (K. Forrester) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start MASAI PRIDE (J. Byrne) was momentarily tightened for room between WARRIOR TRADER (C. Lindop) and UPILIO (C. Brown) which shifted in.
WARRIOR TRADER overraced in the early stages.
Near the 1000m FIVE WAYS improved up onto the heels of THIN AND CRISPY (C. Williams) and had to be steadied.
Approaching the 1000m UPILIO threw it’s head in the air when being restrained.
UPILIO raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of JUST MAMBO jockey S. King stated that he had intended to lead however, he was unable to do so and elected to take a position behind the leaders. He further added that the horse failed to respond to his riding over the concluding stages. He also stated that in his opinion the tempo of the race may not have suited the horse today. A post race veterinary examination of JUST MAMBO (S. King) failed to reveal any abnormality.
A post race veterinary examination of THIN AND CRISPY revealed an abrasion to the near hind pastern.
Race 8: $1.5 Million Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions 2YO Classic – 1200m.
1st – Augusta Proud 2nd – She’s Meaner 3rd – High Roll’n Woman 4th – Black Minx
Prior to the start FEISTY MANNER (L. Nolen) was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
MAGNIFICENT DANCER which was lame following it’s previous start was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
ACORNS (J. Taylor) jumped in at the start and made contact with SHE’S MEANER (N. Rawiller).
A short distance later ACORNS was tightened for room between SHE’S MEANER and BLACK MINX (J. Byrne) which shifted in after jumping away awkwardly.
JAZZ HEART (B. Pengelly) was slow to begin.
SARATOGA (P. Wolfgram) jumped away awkwardly.
FEISTY MANNER and SEEYOU (C. Brown) race wide throughout.
PANDEMONIA (S. Scriven) overraced in the early stages.
AUGUSTA PROUD (C. Lindop) had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN (G. Colless) and BLACK MINX shortly after straightening.
Race 9: Waterford Crystal Magic Millions Class 6 Plate – 1200m.
1st – The Big Easy 2nd – Scenic Rule 3rd – Hear Ye 4th – Morning Colours
MORNING COLOURS (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly.
MONASHEE KNIGHT (A. Pattillo) was tightened on jumping away between DANCE HUNTER (L. Nolen) and CAPTAIN CHAOS (H. Bowman) which shifted in.
THE BIG EASY (S. Scriven) jumped out at the start and made contact with HEAR YE (D. Barron).
SCENIC RULE (D. Griffin) and PARTYGOER (P. Wolfgram) were wide throughout.
Near the 800m DANCE HUNTER which was overracing shifted out taking ELA YE MOU (C. Williams) out onto SCENIC RULE.
Near the 700m JIVE BANDIT (S. Galloway) which was overracing improved up onto the heels of PRINCE LEO (C. Brown) and had to be steadied.
MORNING COLOURS overraced in the early stages.
MONASHEE KNIGHT was held up for clear running from passing the 300m until near the 150m.
BRAEBROOK (S. Baster) was held up for clear running from the 300m until near the 100m behind the tiring TOUR GUIDE (G. Colless).
Passing the 200m HEAR YE shifted out abruptly of it’s own accord.
Near the 50m TOUR GUIDE shifted out and brushed FOR ACTION (D. Nikolic).
Close to the finish line SCENIC RULE and HEAR YE brushed.
J. Byrne the rider of MORNING COLOURS was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that shortly after entering the straight he allowed his mount to shift out resulting in MOSSO (A. Spinks) having to be checked when tightened between MORNING COLOURS and THE BIG EASY (S. Scriven) which shifted in slightly. J. Byrne’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) meetings to commence midnight Wednesday 26 March 2008 and to expire midnight Thursday 10 April 2008. In addition J. Byrne was fined the sum of $500.00. In assessing penalty stewards acknowledged a minor shift from THE BIG EASY.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TOUR GUIDE jockey G. Colless stated that the horse obtained the lead as expected and travelled well however, when asked for an effort shortly after straightening failed to respond to his riding. Trainer G. Heinrich will be interviewed regarding the horse’s performance in due course. A post race veterinary examination of TOUR GUIDE failed to reveal any abnormality.
Race 10: Gold Coast Turf Club Magic Millions Country Cup – 1400m.
1st – Amex Gold 2nd – Regal Castanea 3rd – Arenaceous 4th – Sir Teles
CATCHIT which was kicked in the race stall area was declared a late scratching at 4.56 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice.
GRAND CORSO (B. Pengelly) was slow to begin.
