SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As both App J. Jones and B. Pengelly were indisposed due to illness stewards permitted the rider replacements as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: Christmas In July – 11 July Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate – 1400m.
1st – Prettyexplosive 2nd – Tell Jean 3rd – Feher Arany 4th – Hi Haych
PORTE TRIAGE and JESS SAR BELLE were both declared late withdrawals at 12.16 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after PORTE TRIAGE became extremely fractious in the barriers and lashed out. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on PORTE TRIAGE and JESS SAR BELLE were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 56 cents in the dollar for a win and 31 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer of PORTE TRIAGE H. Norman was advised the mare must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before racing again.
EL FANTASY (M. Palmer) and GOODTOBETHEQUEEN (G. Colless) made contact on jumping away.
MISS PANDORA (App L. Rolls) shifted out at the start making heavy contact with TELL JEAN (D. Griffin).
TELL JEAN, PRETTYEXPLOSIVE (A. Merritt) and HI HAYCH (S. Galloway) all raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: Spring Racing Carnival Book Now! Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Son Of Benny 2nd – Apuckshunubbee 3rd – Go Gerry 4th – Gigandra
GIGANDRA (S. Seamer) and BANGERS ‘N’ MASH (M. Morris) came together on jumping away. A short distance later BANGERS ‘N’ MASH was crowded for room between GIGANDRA and GRECIAN BLUE (D. Tanti), which shifted in.
KINGS JOY (App L. Rolls) shifted out at the start making contact with SON OF BENNY (S. Galloway).
ALL AFFAIR (App J. Brown) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Leaving the 200m SIR STASH (T. Treichel) shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with KALBO (App M. Hellyer).
GIGANDRA was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 150m.
Race 3: Sideshow Alley Saturday 29 August Maiden H’Cap – 900m.
1st – Monching 2nd – Giddyupjayjay 3rd – Tom Cat Creek 4th - Dubachi
HOGANS CROSSING and TWO RIVERS were both declared late withdrawals at 1.33 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after TWO RIVERS became extremely fractious in the barriers and lashed out injurying itself and HOGANS CROSSING. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on HOGANS CROSSING and TWO RIVERS were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 19 cents in the dollar for a win and 17 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer of TWO RIVERS A. Moir was advised the mare must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before racing again.
GIRL ON TIME (D. Barron) was slow to begin.
TOM CAT CREEK (S. Galloway) shifted out at the start.
SEQUENTIAL POINT (App M. Palmer) and MISS MADI (B. Hull) were tightened on jumping away between POLISH COUNTY (S. Drake) and BARNICOLO (D. Craven), which shifted in.
J. Byrne the rider of MONCHING pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 100m causing SEQUENTIAL POINT to be checked and lose ground. J. Byrne’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of six (6) meetings to commence midnight 4 July 2009 and expire midnight 15 July 2009. In assessing penalty stewards took into account J. Byrne’s exceptionally good record in interference related matters.
Race 4: Book Your Christmas Function At The GCTC QTIS 3YO Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Report For Duty 2nd – Lonesome Tycoon 3rd – Barmazal 4th – Cubby House
Trainer M. Reynolds was fined the sum of $100.00 for late declaration of rider for MOVIN MOLLY.
The start of this race was delayed as a result of RED MOHICAN (D. Griffin) proving difficult to load. The gelding’s trainer G. Cornish was advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained before RED MOHICAN again races.
MOVIN MOLLY (App A. Merritt) began awkwardly.
HELLUVA HURRY (G. Colless) began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with MARGETTE (M. Palmer).
MILORA MONARCH (C. Reith) and MR PIGGY BANK (App M. Abe) were tightened on jumping away between SEQUINA (M. Hellyer) and TRISTABRAVE (T. Treichel) both of which shifted ground.
Approaching the 1000m RAE (D. Tanti) had to be steadied off the heels of CUBBY HOUSE (App J. Piper), which shifted in.
Leaving the 800m COCORVADA (J. Byrne) improved up onto the heels of SEQUINA and had to be steadied.
Approaching the 600m CUBBY HOUSE was tightened for room when racing to the inside of RED MOHICAN (D. Griffin), which was taken in by TRISTABRAVE.
Near the 300m LONESOME TYCOON (L. Cheshire) improved up onto the heels of TRISTABRAVE and shifted out causing RED MOHICAN to become unbalanced and lose ground. L. Cheshire was severely reprimanded and instructed exercise more care in similar circumstances.
REPORT FOR DUTY (App A. Badger) raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HELLUVA HURRY jockey G. Colless stated that although he was in a more forward position than expected today the horse was under pressure approaching the home turn and he confirmed his disappointment with the gelding’s performance. Stewards intend to question trainer J. Wallace regarding the post race recovery of HELLUVA HURRY.
A post race veterinary examination of SEQUINA revealed the filly to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer T. Catip was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before SEQUINA again races.
Race 5: GCTC Corporate Golf & Raceday 30 July Class 2 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – A Lot Of Faith 2nd – Jouer Le Jeu 3rd – Ten Coronas 4th - Albuquerque
TIMECALL (D. Tanti) began awkwardly.
SPECIALISOR (T. Treichel) was slow to begin.
KINSMATE (K. Banks) overraced in the early stages and approaching the 1400m had to be steadied off the heels of MRS DITTMIER (App L. Rolls).
ALBUQUERQUE (G. Colless) was caught wide in the early and middle stages.
IRISH PUB (D. Barron) was caught wide for the majority of the event.
Race 6: Bundaberg Rum Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Smart ‘N’ Crafty 2nd – Mambo Princess 3rd – Inch Ahead 4th – Sittinbul
SMARTNESS (N. Seymour) was slow to begin.
ABOUT EVE (S. Galloway) was tightened on jumping away between CAPE LEVEQUE (App L. Rolls) and SIR ROSSA (T. Treichel), both of which shifted ground.
Near the 800m RELATIVE VELOCITY (M. Palmer) overraced on the heels of SITTINBUL (B. Evans) and had to be steadied.
SIR ROSSA and CAPE LEVEQUE both raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: Johnnie Walker Class 5 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Savanna La Mar 2nd – Little Mel 3rd – Bradfield 4th - Tag
SAVANNA LA MAR (D. Griffin) was tightened on jumping away between TAG (D. Tanti) and LIFE’S SHORT (M. Cahill), which was taken in by FRAMBOISE (S. Galloway).
GREY EXPECTATIONS (L. Cheshire) began awkwardly.
LIFE’S SHORT raced wide for the majority of the event.
C. Reith the rider of BRADFIELD pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that on straightening he allowed his mount to shift out resulting in FRAMBOISE and KING LEONIDAS (App M. Hellyer) being checked. C. Reith’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 4 July 2009 and expire midnight 17 July 2009. In assessing penalty stewards took into account C. Reith’s relatively good record.
Race 8: GCTC Functions 7 Days A Week Class 3 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Run The Course 2nd – Trixizar 3rd – Simian Express 4th – Sevenspanishangels
Trainer B. Wakefield was fined the sum of $100.00 for late declaration of rider for TRIXIZAR.
The start of this race was delayed after MR HEARTBREAKER (J. Byrne) broke through the gates riderless. MR HEARTBREAKER was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
ANOTHER TAKEOVER (App M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.
KOORONG AVENUE (C. Reith) raced ungenerously in the early stages.
RUN THE COURSE (D. Griffin) and SEVENSPANISHANGELS (App M. Speers) were held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
DENBY (App L. Rolls) was held up and unable to obtain clear running in the straight.
MUSICALLY (M. Palmer) raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the performance of KALKIE KANE jockey T. Treichel stated that although the horse had raced well previously on a rain affected track the horse failed to handle today’s track conditions. He further stated that in his opinion KALKIE KANE was better suited to races of a shorter distance rather than today’s event. A post race veterinary examination of KALKIE KANE failed to reveal any abnormality. Stewards intend to question trainer L. Wheeler regarding the horse’s post race recovery.
