Race 1: Garry Newham QTIS 2YO H’Cap – 1100m
1st – Casino Card 2nd – Shamrock Slipper 3rd – Powerful Jet 4th – Vain Dazzler

Trainer H. Page was advised that an official warning would be placed against POWERFUL JET regarding it proving difficult to load.

REFINED OPTION (N. Thomas) and RISING SKY (App K. Matheson) bumped on jumping away.

CASINO CARD (App A. Butler) began awkwardly.

CLOSED IN (A. Pattillo) was slow to begin.

CASINO CARD raced greenly from leaving the 500m.
D. Tanti the rider of VAIN DAZZLER pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that approaching the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of POWERFUL JET (D. Griffin) forcing that runner in across the rightful running of SHAMROCK SLIPPER (D. Missen) resulting in that runner having to be checked and lose its rightful running. D. Tanti’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 2 January 2012 and expire midnight 8 January 2012.

Trainer Mrs H. Page reported that POWERFUL JET had been galloped on its off hind leg. A post race veterinary examination of POWERFUL JET revealed a laceration to the off hind leg, which is consistent with being galloped on.

Race 2: Stuart James Memorial Maiden SW Plate – 1400m
1st – Choir Girl 2nd – Birds Of Song 3rd – Harvey’s Loss 4th – Sandy’s Dragon

SANDY’S DRAGON (J.P. Stanley) was slow to begin.

HARVEY’S LOSS (K. Pope) and GRAND ELEGANCE (D. Tanti) bumped on jumping away.

Near the 1200m BUCKET OF CASH (App B. Wallace) had to be eased when HARVEY’S LOSS shifted in.

SEEDS OF LOVE (Michael Palmer) overraced during the early stages of the event.

SANDY’S DRAGON raced ungenerously during the early and middle stages of the event.

Near the 300m BRAVE PALATINSK (A. Pattillo) was held up when attempting to take a narrow run between GRAND ELEGANCE and BIRDS OF SONG (D. Missen), which shifted in. BRAVE PALATINSK was then held up for a short distance thereafter. BRAVE PALATINSK was again held up over the concluding stages for a short distance when disappointed for a run between GRAND ELEGANCE and HARVEY’S LOSS, which shifted in slightly.

Near the 200m CHOIR GIRL (M. Paget) shifted out around the heels of BIRDS OF SONG and in doing so forced EQUALLY OPTIMISTIC (App B. Looker) out onto BUCKET OF CASH

SANDY’S DRAGON commenced to lay out over the final 200m.

BUCKET OF CASH raced wide throughout the event.

Stewards questioned J.P. Stanley regarding the tactics adopted on SANDY’S DRAGON, in particular between the 400m and 200m. Jockey Stanley stated that on entering the straight he was racing at the rear of the field and was unable to obtain clear running forward of him until he was able to position his mount to the outside of BUCKET OF CASH approaching the 200m.
Jockey Stanley added that for this reason he was unable to ride SANDY’S DRAGON in his usual manner. He further added that once obtaining clear running near the 200m his mount wanted to shift wider when placed under pressure and got its head up in the air however, over the final 100m SANDY’S DRANG ran on strongly. His explanation was noted.

App B. Looker the rider of EQUALLY OPTIMISTIC was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 3: Commercial Kitchen Company Maiden H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Skate On By 2nd – Samaxamia 3rd – Bakobi 4th – Twinkleton

BEER WITH FRIENDS which was fractious in the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

BEER WITH FRIENDS (K. Fujii) knuckled on jumping away and lost considerable ground.

GOLDEN MAHARAJA (K. Collins) began awkwardly and lost ground.

D. Missen the rider of BAKOBI was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 1600m forcing MINESWEEPER (App T. Harrison) in across the rightful running of TWINKLETON (L. Cheshire), causing that runner to be checked. D. Missen’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) meetings to commence midnight 7 January 2012 and expire midnight 15 January 2012. In this incident ANOTHER TRIUMPH (A. Pattillo), which was following TWINKLETON was checked off that runner’s heels, shifted out abruptly across the rightful running of BOOBOISIE (D. Tanti) which caused that runner to be checked, shift out and in doing so hampered GOLDEN MAHARAJA.

Near the 800m BAKOBI (D. Missen) was cramped when racing in restricted room to the inside of SKATE ON BY (D. Griffin), which momentarily shifted in.

K. Collins (GOLDEN MAHARAJA) dropped his whip near the 300m.

GOLDEN MAHARAJA raced wide throughout the event.

App K. Matheson the rider of NOBODY’S JOHNNY was fined the sum of $100.00 for using his whip in a forehand manner in excess of 5 times prior to the 100m. App K. Matheson was also cautioned for using his whip on NOBODY’S JOHNNY forward of the shoulder.

As D. Tanti was dually engaged on SUNSETS OF FIRE and JUST A ROCKSTAR due to a misunderstanding stewards permitted K. Pope to be substituted as the rider for JUST A ROCKSTAR.

SUNSETS ON FIRE which reared over in the tie up stalls was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race.

SUNSETS ON FIRE was further examined at the barriers by the veterinary surgeon and found to have blood from both nostrils. SUNSETS ON FIRE was withdrawn at 3.20 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice. All monies invested on SUNSETS ON FIRE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and place getters prior to 3.20 p.m.:-

Acting on the advice from veterinary surgeon that SUNSETS ON FIRE had bled from both nostrils due to external trauma stewards took no further action regarding this matter other than to advise trainer G. Farrell that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before SUNSETS ON FIRE again races.

AJNA (N. Seymour) was slow to begin and lost considerable ground.

SLIPPERY DANE (D. Missen) and JUST A ROCKSTAR (K. Pope)at the start.
came together
SLIPPERY DANE shifted out at the 800m and bumped JUST A ROCKSTAR.

Approaching the 600m JUST A ROCKSTAR, when racing ungenerously, had to be steadied off the heels of CHRISSIE’S LASS (App T. Harrison).

Leaving the 300m CHRISSIE’S LASS commenced to hang in placing its rider at a disadvantage.

Over the concluding stages TOWN DAZZLER (Michael Palmer) was placed in restricted room when JUST A ROCKSTAR shifted in momentarily.

Race 6: Commercial Kitchen Company Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m

Race 7: Greg Mance Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Tycoon’s Heart 2nd – Losana 3rd – Rockin’ Roxy 4th – Thirsty For Blood

TELENA which was fractious in the barriers was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race.

WITCHES LIPS (App N. Perrett), TELENA (M. Paget), THIRSTY FOR BLOOD (App B. Looker) and ROCKIN’ ROXY (App L. Rolls) were all slow to begin.

Near the 1200m RUSSIAN ROYALTY (E. Kehoe) improved up onto the heels of BEEBY GEM (K. Fujii) and had to be steadied. RUSSIAN ROYALTY then commenced to overrace for a short distance.

GENEVA GOLD (App T. Harrison) hung out near the 1000m across the heels of I EXCEL (D. Tanti) and was obliged to race wide from this point onwards.

Stewards questioned App T. Harrison the rider of GENEVA GOLD regarding the tactics she adopted during the early stages where she settled the horse back in the field, which is in contrast to its previous start at the Sunshine Coast on 22 November 2011. App Harrison advised stewards that her riding instructions were to settle the mare further back in the field due to the wide barrier. Trainer Mr Hill will be interviewed regarding this matter. Stewards further questioned App Harrison regarding her vigour on GENEVA GOLD in particular rounding the home turn and the early part of the straight. App Harrison stated that the mare has had a tendency to lay in when placed under pressure at previous starts so she elected to pull the whip through from her left hand to her right hand. She added that due to her inexperience it took her longer than anticipated to manoeuvre the whip however, once placed under pressure over the final 250m the mare ran on fairly. App Harrison was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out in a manner that does not leave herself open to question.

Race 8: Cyril Small Class 2 H’Cap – 1200m

Near the 400m RED MOHICAN (M. Paget) shifted out and in doing so forced SNIP ‘N’ DUCK (D. Missen) wider on the track.

D. Griffin was cautioned regarding the use of his whip, in particular raising his hand above shoulder height.

A post race veterinary examination of FOOTPRINTINTHESAND, which performed below expectations, revealed the horse to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer G. Yorke was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to FOOTPRINTINTHESAND again races.

A post race veterinary examination of TRACE OF SILVER, which also performed below expectations, revealed no significant findings.
