Stable hand Anthony Stephens was fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to follow a steward’s directive.

Race 1: Toxfree QTIS 2YO Maiden SW Plate – 900m
1st – All The Angels 2nd – Give Me Time 3rd – Cuban Song 4th – Waffle

CUBAN SONG (App C. Schmidt) stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground.

GOWAN BRAE (App A. Butler) was slow to begin.

WAFFLE (App M. McGuren) made contact with the running rail of its own accord near the 600m and as a result became unbalanced.

OOPSY DAISY (P. Holmes) had to be eased when placed in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 450m by GIVE ME TIME (App A. Taylor), which shifted in slightly. App Taylor the rider of GIVE ME TIME was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

WAFFLE raced greenly in the home straight.

Race 2: Toxfree – Smartskip Maiden SW Plate – 900m
1st – Could Be Lucky 2nd – Castles Sakura 3rd – Cheeky Express 4th – Spur Me Up

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer L. Richardson for the late declaration of P. Holmes as the rider of DON’T TELLTHEGIRLS.

Trainer H. Van Hoeyen was fined the sum of $100.00 for not properly enacting the gear change for ASPRILLA by the prescribed time, reflecting the horse wearing bar plates for the first time.

Trainer J. Smerdon was fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to produce the identification card for HYDRATION.

A pre race veterinary examination was carried out on ASPRILLA, clearing the horse to take its place in the field.

GLENROCK MAX (App M. McKenzie) and COULD BE LUCKY (L. Rolls) both began awkwardly.

HYDRATION (K. Forrester) was slow to begin.

Leaving the 600m GLENROCK MAX had to be steadied away from the heels of ASPRILLA (App E. Kacmaz), which shifted in. GLENROCK MAX raced greenly for a short distance thereafter.

SPUR ME UP (B. Powell) raced greenly in the home straight.

ASPRILLA broke down at a point near the 300m and was retired out of the event by its rider. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had fractured both sesamoids in its near fore leg and was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds.

LOVE STORIES (A. Pattillo) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned as to the performance of LOVE STORIES jockey A. Pattillo noted that the mare was first up from a spell today and performs best when racing over further distances. A. Pattillo added that from the wide barrier he was required to ride LOVE STORIES vigorously in the early and middle stages which resulted in the mare failing to finish off the race as expected. Jockey Pattillo was therefore not entirely disappointed with the performance of LOVE STORIES and was of the view that the mare would derive some fitness benefit from today’s race. A post race veterinary examination of LOVE STORIES failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Trainer S. Kurz was advised that GLENROCK MAX which raced uncompetitively will now be required to officially trial prior to its next start.

Race 3: Toxfree Industrial Services Benchmark 80 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Lady Agulhas 2nd – Rock Home Late 3rd – Faultless Dancer 4th – Go The Blaze

ROCK HOME LATE (App C. Schmidt) was slow to begin.

ROCK HOME LATE and MR SLICK (L. Rolls) both overraced in the early stages of the event.

TISANI BOY (App T. Wolfgram) raced wide throughout the event.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on TISANI BOY, particularly why he elected to shift to the outside of ROCK HOME LATE passing the 900m forcing him to race wide for the majority of the race, App Wolfgram stated that he was specifically instructed to obtain a forward position and not to take up a position with cover even if that meant racing 3 wide. App Wolfgram added that he attempted to comply with these instructions however, the gelding failed to travel comfortably at any stage of the race and proved disappointing. Trainer K. Kemp confirmed the instructions and indicated that TISANI BOY would be sent for an immediate spell.

Race 4: Toxfree Recycling Maiden H’Cap – 1100m
1st – Sequends 2nd – Famous Grouse 3rd – Artalo 4th – Room Eight

STUDY LEAVE (App R. Jamieson) and CIVIL UNION (S. Sheargold) were both slow to begin.

Near the 800m SPECIAL TALE (App A. Butler) was tightened for room by SEQUENDS (App T. Wolfgram), which shifted in slightly and INNER SPACE (App E. Kacmaz), which shifted out and away from ROOM EIGHT (Matthew Palmer), which shifted out slightly. In this incident SPECIAL TALE galloped on the hind leg of INNER SPACE. INNER SPACE then raced ungenerously for the remainder of the race. A post race veterinary examination of INNER SPACE revealed the filly to have a substantial laceration to the near hind leg consistent with being galloped on. Stable representative P. Cuddihy was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to INNER SPACE racing again. Mr Cuddihy indicated that the horse would now be sent for an immediate spell. At a subsequent inquiry stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference to SPECIAL TALE and injury to INNER SPACE was the fault of any one rider and as such took no action.

INNER SPACE shifted in at a point near the 600m tightening the running of CIVIL UNION.

ROOM EIGHT and SEQUENDS bumped near the 350m. ROOM EIGHT was disappointed for a run a short distance later between SEQUENDS and STUDY LEAVE, resulting in ROOM EIGHT shifting in to the inside of STUDY LEAVE in order to improve.

Approaching the 100m CHAMPAGNE ELOPING (K. Wharton) made contact with the running rail when tightened for room by INNER SPACE, which shifted in and away from ROOM EIGHT.

SEQUENDS and FAMOUS GROUSE (K. Yoshida) both raced wide for the majority of the event.

A post race veterinary examination of CIVIL UNION which finished a distant last failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative for trainer Ms S. O’Sullivan was advised that in light of today’s performance CIVIL UNION would now be barred from racing at provincial meetings until it establishes form at country venues. Connections advised consideration would now be given to retiring the gelding.

A post race veterinary examination of SPECIAL TALE revealed the mare to have cast an off fore plate and to have suffered a laceration to its off fore pastern.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3.

Race 5: Toxfree Solutions QTIS 3YO Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Royal Scribe 2nd – In Full View 3rd – Our Gardy 4th – All Alert

The start of this race was delayed when ROYAL SCRIBE proved difficult to load. Trainer D. Kelly was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of ROYAL SCRIBE.

TOMMY’S HI (A. Pattillo), OUR GARDY (App S. Payne) and ROSE QUEEN (App T. Wolfgram) were all slow to begin.

IN FULL VIEW (App E. Kacmaz) overraced in the early stages of the event.

Near the 600m POLAR SHIFT (App M. McGuren) became awkward at the heels of IN FULL VIEW which shifted out forcing ROYAL SCRIBE (App R. Jamieson) wider on the track.

Race 6: Toxfree Hazardous Class 1 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Stuboy 2nd – Tracey’s Angel 3rd – Maximum Cash 4th – Classic Kitten

TRACEY’S ANGEL required farrier attention prior to the running of this event and underwent a veterinary examination clearing it to take its place in the race.

SO DELICIOUS (App A. Butler) began awkwardly.

CLASSIC KITTEN (App T. Jeffries) began awkwardly and shifted in bumping the hind quarters of TRACEY’S ANGEL (App T. Wolfgram).

FEYTALISTIC (A. Best) was slow to begin.

Near the 1400m CLASSIC KITTEN had to be eased when tightened for room by TRICK TRONIC (A. Pattillo), which shifted in.

Nearing the winning post LEICA PEGASUS (App M. Vance) and TRICK TRONIC were crowded for room between MAXIMUM CASH (J. Taylor) and CLASSIC KITTEN, both of which shifted ground slightly.

A post race veterinary examination of ROCK LANE (C. Whiteley) which compounded in the home straight failed to reveal any abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of SMOKING SUCCESS (Matthew Palmer) and MADHURIMA (App M. McKenzie) both of which failed to be competitive revealed both horses to be lame. Mr Morton and Mr Stanton as trainers of the respective horses were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required before each horse would be permitted to race again. The post race veterinary examination of SMOKING SUCCESS also revealed that the gelding lost the use of its tongue tie during the race and returned to the enclosure with its tongue over the bit.

Race 7: Toxfree Waste Management Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Damo’s Touch 2nd – Telmemore 3rd – Don’tcryargentina 4th – Our Zidane

Subject to any further submissions trainer D.J. Bougoure was fined the sum $100.00 for failing to properly engage C. McIver as the rider of HEART STEALER. Stewards subsequently permitted J. Taylor to be substituted as the rider.

Correct weight was delayed to enable App T. Wolfgram and trainer B. Guy to view the official patrol footage to see whether PLAY LUCK was afforded a fair start. After viewing the footage both Mr Guy and App Wolfgram were satisfied that PLAY LUCK was afforded a fair start.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by App M. McKenzie the rider of TELMEMORE which finished 2nd and App T. Jeffries the rider of DON’TCRYARGENTINA which finished 3rd against DAMO’S TOUCH (S. Sheargold) being declared the winner on the grounds of interference leaving the 100m. On the evidence it was established that DAMO’S TOUCH shifted in passing the 100m resulting in both TELMEMORE and DON’TCRYARGENTINA having to be steadied when tightened for room by DAMO’S TOUCH however, bearing in mind the official margins, the proximity of the interference to the finishing line and the fact that DAMO’S TOUCH was finishing the race better than TELMEMORE and DON’TCRYARGENTINA stewards were not of the view that the interference suffered by those two runners warranted a reversal of the placings and subsequently dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored. At a subsequent inquiry jockey Sheargold the rider of DAMO’S TOUCH pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in passing the 100m when insufficiently clear of TELMEMORE and DON’TCRYARGENTINA causing interference to both runners. S. Sheargold’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 30 November 2013 and to expire midnight 11 December 2013.

PLAYLUCK began awkwardly and shifted out bumping RUN FOR EVER (App M. McGuren).

ASALTED (A. Spinks) was slow to begin.

RUN FOR EVER, TELMEMORE and DAMO’S TOUCH all overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.

CONNOLLY (L. Cheshire) was held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight, shifted out in order to improve and in doing so made heavy contact with OUR ZIDANE (Matthew Palmer), resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

PLAY LUCK was held up for clear running from the 400m until a point approaching the 200m.

S. Sheargold the rider of DAMO’S TOUCH was fined the sum of $100.00 under the provisions of AR137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

Jockey A. Spinks reported that ASALTED hung out for the majority of the race. Trainer C. Halliday was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

Race 8: Coastal Tipper Hire Class 2 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Star Sammy 2nd – Rogertheredneck 3rd – I Smarticus 4th – Drop Shot

Subject to any further submissions trainer D. Kelly was fined the sum of $100.00 for the late declaration of D. Green as the rider of LET’S PARTY.

STAR SAMMY (App S. Payne) had to be steadied passing the 900m when DROP SHOT (App M. McKenzie) shifted in. App McKenzie was reprimanded for this incident.

Leaving the 700m I SMARTICUS (P. Holmes) commenced to overrace and as a result improved onto the heels of STAR SAMMY and when being steadied shifted out resulting in OLOROSO (A. Spinks) having to be checked from the heels of REPINSKI (App R. Jamieson).

I SMARTICUS was held up rounding the home turn and leaving the 200m bumped the hind quarters of BEAUFORT GYRE and became unbalanced.

App T. Wolfgram the rider of BEAUFORT GYRE dropped his whip leaving the 300m.

CANNINGLY (L. Cheshire) was momentarily held up leaving the 300m.

Approaching the 200m DROP SHOT shifted out and bumped STAR SAMMY.

YASMINA (App T. Jeffries) broke down passing the 200m and was eased out of the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed YASMINA had sustained a carpal fracture to the near fore leg. YASMINA was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds.

BEAUFORT GYRE, REPINSKI, OLOROSO and HARD TICKER (A. Pattillo) all raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the performance of ROCK PAPER SISSORS jockey J. Taylor stated that the mare failed to muster sufficient speed in the early stages despite his efforts to take up its customary forward position. J. Taylor added that rounding the home turn he attempted to shift ROCK PAPER SISSORS to the outside of the field in order to obtain clear running however, when ROGERTHEREDNECK (L. Rolls) shifted out forward of him he was obliged to shift back to the inside of that runner to secure clear running. J. Taylor further stated that passing the 200m he was able to improve into a run between DROP SHOT and CANNINGLY after which ROCK PAPER SISSORS found the line strongly. Stewards noted his explanation.
